Very cool to see drafts used for something they're built for :D But what I really miss seeing is a good pat and rubdown! Not a lot of affection present!
(continued) as humans first did when Paleo Indians encoutntered them after crossing the Bering Strait. As others have said, there are no horses that size out on the Plains, they'd never make it..their added need for food would lead to insustainablility, and they would die. Man has selectively bred for this job. They're loved and well taken care of.I"m the first one to call out abuse(I did at a show i voluteered at when a man beat a horse about the neck w/a lunge whip),and these horses are *not* hurt.
For all those who say it's not 'natural' for these horses to do this work..bear in mind that it's not 'natural' for us to ride them.Go out to the wild herds and see how many mustangs you find with a saddle on its back and and a bit in its mouth.I'm a beginning rider, and I *love* my lesson horse,a solid color paint named Jackson, and I'd never *dream* of abusing him,and neither would his owner,my trainer, who saved him from an abusive home. What would be 'natural' interaction would be hunting them.
Nice! beautiful well kept horses and amazing training! Fantastic! And wow that tan Belgian (?) has such spunk and personality! I loved when he/she pawed the ground in the beginning!
im sorry but if the horse was never "enslaved" as you call it, then the west would have never been won, not to mention most of what mankind has accomplished.
@grungeprincess86 As my riding instructor put it,we compromised with the horses..they give us meat, milk, rides, till our fields, and in return,we feed, water, and protect them from predators. Were they no use to us,we wouldnt've domesticated them.I'm so very glad our ancestors did,bc if they hadn't,i never would've met my amazing lesson horse,a solid paint named Jackson.
Awesome! Those horses are built! I am always the first to call out people for horse abuse, and I see NONE here. These animals are doing what they have been bred and trained to do, and it looks like a safe, healthy environment.
@rockabillygirl1977 But they were borne with the muscles, bone structure, and heart to do so. Selective breeding has ensured that these animals are able to pull massive amounts of weight. How else do you think people ploughed fields before mechanized tractors and ploughs? And these horses also carried knights in battle armor (with the horses themselves garbed in armor) onto the battle field. Grant you a foal should not do pulls, but a full grown mature horse is more than capable of this.
I think this is cruelty! A horse is here for love and care! and 4 the enjoyment of having the oppurtunity 2 ride one of these beautiful animals! NOT MAKE THEM PULL HEAVY CARTS! WE HAVE ARMS!! USE THE FIRGGIN THINGS!
@GeorgiaC117 No, they are excited. These horses were bred to pull heavy ploughs and other equipment before mechanized equipment was readily available. And, they were also bred to carry knights suited in full armor plus their battle axes, lances, broad swords, etc. They may be struggling, but if you look at them when they are leaving the ring they are not limping or showing any signs of displeasure.
@GeorgiaC117 Show horses enjoy what they do in order to excel- and if these horses didn't excel they wouldn't have been chosen to perform.
Letting them sit in a field and do nothing all day IMO is real cruelty. Let's just leave you in your bedroom or in a classroom or backyard with nothing to do and see how you like it!
@GeorgiaC117 Look at their chest and hind quarters, these horses were bred to pull heavy loads and carry heavy items. There's a reason why they have heavy muscle in the chest and hind quarters, it's so they can do this. Look at their ears when they are pulling, if they did not enjoy this the ears would be flat against their neck. And, if they did not want to walk up to the cart they have the ability to walk out of the ring and pull their owners along with them.
@asmodayose ahh well u shouldn't call me out then ....... It's my opinion...this commenting thing is about expressing you'r own opinions not other people correcting you!
@GeorgiaC117 So if you are wrong then everybody should just let you be wrong? I am sorry, but if you are saying a load of bs I will call you out on it. The horses in this video are not suffering and this is not cruel; this is what these breeds were meant to do. You are entitled to your opinion but that does not take away my right to call you out on the bs you were saying.
Are you stupid? I hope you do realize we HUMANS selectively bred these horses specifically to pull heavy loads. So technically, draft breeds are "here" to perform work. Lighter horses were generally bred for riding purposes, and drafts for heavy work.
@Slaughter4543 Uhh! yeaa think i am..and tha wasnt me who sent them messages ! sorry about that..all the info u gave me i knew! Someone hacked onto my account :/ Hehe sorry about that really am!
@rockabillygirl1977 Well if you think about it as anything un-natural for a horse is cruel than anyone that owns a horse is cruel to the horse even if it stays a beautiful green pasture all day and night it is still fenced in and probly feed grain and hay something they wouldn't get in the wild and even if they have 50 acres to roam its not free in the wild. i own a horse so I'm not saying i think its cruel but if my horse was wild he would be a lot better because no one would have starved him.
@1233Maya Honestly- saying if he was wild "he wouldn't have starved" isn't true. Wildlife have to fight to find their food and they have to fight to keep it. Wildlife (even horses) die of starvation all the time- you just don't see it because most of us live in suburban or urban areas where its easier to miss. Ask any person who does wildlife rehab and they'll tell you the same thing.
@Nitefeatherz true but in the wild he would have at least tryed to find more food and if he was wild he would have had some chance of finding food at his old home he was put in a stall and not fed i gess he could have eaten the wood and idk if he did or not but eather way when i first got him hes was like 200 or 300 lbs under weight and every one told me i was wasteing my time he was going to die but hes fine now and a pretty good barrel horse.
@1233Maya So it is cruel to be provided with shelter, food, companionship, safety from predators, treats, grooming, and exercise, while only doing a small amount of work? I think it might be a sweet deal.
@asmodayose no, i mean if someone thinks that anything un-natural to the horse is cruel then yeah i guess all the would be cruel because natural to them is being free not even in a pastrer with people around them... i think that horses should have never been messed with but they were so the freedom ship has sailed so i don't think any of this is cruel but if someone says that i don't know, maybe barrels is cruel because its un-natural then all that must be cruel as well
@rockabillygirl1977 Exactly! What are you mentally challenged? You expressed your opinion and I expressed mine. Trust me, I've got a grip, you don't see me going on about 'horse cruelty' when there is none. Love how your only comeback is insults - really makes your argument look ligit. Hahaha!
@rockabillygirl1977 The majority of racehorses under good trainers love what they do. Theyre bred for it. Can't beleive you're going on about how different disciplines are cruel when there are REAL horse welfare crimes happening everyday. The horses willingness and attitude in this video shows that they want to do it, the same way that a TB hops around before a race
@rockabillygirl1977 Nor were they born with one saying "ride me" get a grip. These horses love it, they're in great condition, and are well looked after. Go post comments on a horse slaughter page if you feel like being a bunny-hugger.
@rockabillygirl1977 You can tell that they don't? Do they speak to you? I have a feeling the people that own and work with these horses understand them a lot better than you do!
I taught my younger brother to ride on an unbroken young clydesdale when we were only young kids. He seemed to be a mountain of an animal and getting up onto his back in the first place was a mission in itself,so funny, so gentle even when he bucked it seemed to be in slow motion. And I agree with TiaSweden, AWESOME
u guys are so mean. cant you see the horses struggling to pull those weights? imagiane u pulling 900lb could u do it, it would be tourcher so why are u making the poor horses pull the heavey weights? things like this make me want to put 900lb on u why are people so mean our days? if you agree with me say agree
@coleencarvajal Because they were built for it. Do you not see them prancing in anticipation? If they did not want to do this, their owners would not be able to make them do it.
How does that even make any sense? These horses weight 10x as much as I do, and the weight is distributed between two of them. Obviously these animals are much larger than humans and have been bred selectively to pull heavy loads. P.s. use spell check next time
they look quite cute to ride! people say you can't ride these, but i've seen loads of people riding these draft horses.. you gotta admit though,, it does look pretty fun!
To ride them is not for beginners that´s for sure but it´s a whole lotta fun. I had a shire before and used to ride him (mostly bareback). It´s a bit tricky to follow in the gallop cause the steps is really wide but the happy feeling you get inside is just awsome.
@ThePigeon08 with that kind of attitude you are bound to be a very average or less then average person in your life. Horses are like people they enjoy having a purpose and a challenge. That is why they like to be around and work with people.
@GhettoNinja14 You would be surprised how much they actually enjoy working, I have a friend who owns Vladimir heavy draft horses and they get so excited when it's time to pull stuff around. If they really didn't want to pull, they wouldn't. And I agree, they are amazingly powerful and beautiful creatures.
@AbieyieLovesYou Me being a horse rider and a lover of horses, I understand that these draft horses were bred specifically for this work. Saying they shouldn't do it is like saying thoroughbreds shouldn't race. Read their body language, if you can: they are not in pain or discomfort, they are excited. They just can't wait to pull that thing.
@AbieyieLovesYou Just like how you can tell what a person is thinking by their body language, you can tell what an animal is thinking (or the gist of it, anyway) by its body language.
@AbieyieLovesYou Im pretty sure that they enjoy doing it. you can tell from body language. being a horse rider you should know horse talk, id imagine. Or maybe you dont pay attention to your horses and just sit on their backs. but that, to me, makes you no horse rider.
Its like saying sled dogs dont like sledding
For example, when you, as a human, have muscle and work out and run, it hurts not to. and you ache for it. youre naive if you think animals are different from us.
@howlerkos I know.. but no offence.. you don't really have the right to tell me what I think bout things, do you? And Yes, I do pay attention and care when I ride horses actually. And well, let me think, animals ARE different from us, duh? Horses are like best friends to me, and maybe you should do ABIT more research mate before you start arguing with other people's opinion.
I question your opinion for good reason. Why would you think its cruel to let a horse do somethign it enjoys?
Well from waht you said it didnt seem like it.
Humans are animals. We're both mammals. We have the same basic things, our nerves are the same, the way our muscles react are the same. Animals just speak a language we cant understand and were more intelligent than them, and some are really close to being as smart as us. So no i wouldn't say we're very different -c
@AbieyieLovesYou Haha. xD I never said i was an expert on horses. I just said that you dont know their body language very well from what youre saying. Nice way of twisting words.
oooh. a come back about how i have no life, even though you took the time to respond. Of course i have nothing better to do at night when i feel like sleeping. Its not exactly smart to go about frolicking in daisys at this time of day.
Youre kinda stupid arentchya? or too literal. I never said that. x3
@AbieyieLovesYou Wooohooo.... I'm 12 and I work with horses 24/7 and have 13 so far and if you say this is cruel? Are the horses bucking? Squealing? If they didn't like it they wouldn't even try.
@edctgbujm123 It is not laziness. I for one, watch quite a few videos when I have time, and I do not generally ever think to rate UNLESS I find it awful.......... then I give a thumb down! But that has happened only once or twice in the past couple years.
@ringbolt9 No horse continues doing something that hurts, it is natural for them to avoid pain (flight instinct) so if it hurt them they wouldn't do it! :)
Work horses have been used to pull stumps, logs, etc. Stumps can be a much heavier load than this. What is the difference between a man/woman doing hard manual labor and these horses pulling a heavy load for a short distance? They are well cared for. Probably better than the owners.
it was amazing that these horses are so in time with each other they both start jogging at the same time i hate it when people cut horses tails but in this case it does need to be done
I don't think this is cruel, it's obvious that the horses want to pull it's in their nature - what they were built to do. their trying their heart out! but i do think people should know the horses limits. they shouldn't push the horses so far that they could seriously injure themselves for the sake of a trophy. but as long as the horses are happy and safe to pull i think its ok... (just my opinion..)
@tommo2806 i get that is your opinion, but let me explain this to you :) A lot of people don't seem to realize that a draft horse needs to be worked in some way (usually pulling) because without being worked with, a draft horse will lose the muscle it has and won't be able to support it's own bones easily. This isn't cruel, it is what they were born and bred to do. Draft horses are still used today in jobs like logging and other pulling things, it's natural and healthy for this breed! :)
MY opinion is that they WANT to pull heavy loads..... like a race horse WANTS to run fast or a sled dog WANTS to pull his sled. It's what they were bred to do.
hmmm not bad. and no this isnt bad for horses .horses love competitive sports against other horses.we have 2 teams of shires we drive as professionals all standing from 18'2-19 hands we always have pulling contest : )
haha this is cool......but its no suprise haha...........my qh mare who is only 14.2 hands tall....but built like a tank pulled bak my horstrailer about ten feet cause i tied her to the back and she got spooked...it ws scary yet awsome to see her rip that thing back like nothing!!
@00horsecrazy00 omg my quater horse mare whos really trained for barrel racing dragged my little cuzins swing set three miles back to my house because she wanted to go home
@00horsecrazy00 omg my quater horse mare whos really trained for barrel racing dragged my little cuzins swing set three miles back to my house because she wanted to go home
@countrygirl9519 yah my mare was a little wild when we first bought her and now she is the most awsome gaming horse......she like barrel racing but she like poles and the others a lot haha but yah many people see her and are like "she used to be wild and spooked at everything?" haha and dang three miles!!
@00horsecrazy00 yeah she was on a mission to go home and its funny that she actually went. yeah she's my barrel horse but she's a project she has to go so when she took of with the swing set i was like omg is that MY horse. The only time she has energy to move like that is when she spooks or wants me off her back so i was really surprised she actually put the effort into pulling the whole swing set
@LoveHorseDust horses were simply not made for seeing how much they could pull. this could hurt there backs and damage them and maby even give them artharitis
ok i know i'm going to get a lot of hate for this, However.
The comment that keeps cropping up is "these horses are bred for this" that may be so, however making them to pull weights such as these on that surface is not good for them. it damages their shoulder, back and quarter muscles. The horses may be eager to do this work because they think it is good because their owners have taught them its good, however the amount of damage its doing to them is unimaginable!
@wattamus Yes these horse are bred for this but i don't see why you have to go out and prove it.
Its like having a 4x4.... the majority of 4x4 owners have never taken their car out of a city but it doesn't make it any less of an off- road car. similarly just because your draft horse doesn't pull massive weights (they never would've been asked to pull weighs of t this size in the past) doesn't mean it is any less of a draft horse.
@wattamus ....why wouldn't they be asked to pull weights this size in the past?? I would expect that they wouldve been required to pull similar weights and more often and for longer since they were the only means we had. Horses worked much harder and under much worse conditions then...they also have much better living conditions now: better feed, hay, supplements, medical care. This isn't work for these horses, its play; and it beats all the real 12+ hour work days of the past.
@blangus1@blangus1 thats not entirely true. My elderly stepfather when he grew up on his farm here in England he had to work the shires in the field when he was young, plowing, harrowing, pulling carts etc and they were well stabled and looked after - they had to be, if a horse gets lame, sick or whatever then they can't work and thats that and its your livelyhood down the drain. They were well cared for, trust me.
@KateFan oh they were never asked to pull anything they couldn't handle - like this. This is just for show. No heavy horse could pull this for long, never mind all day.
@wattamus A car is not a living thing. If a car doesn't live up to its full potential and if it doesn't get enough exercise, that's not going to hurt it. And even if it does... it's just a car. A horse is a living thing that has drive and purpose and needs something to do. Horses let you know when they don't want to do something. Trust me, these horses LOVE what they do. It's their playtime.
@wattamus You can't "teach" a horse that they want to do something. If their heart isn't in it, you can tell. Likewise, when a horse loves its job, they really show it. A human playing football is probably going to have arthritis and get around with a walker by age 50. Does that stop him from doing what he loves? You can wrap a horse in bubble wrap and lock him away all his life, but that's all he'll ever be, is a bubble-wrapped horse.
It's all about the friction between the thing beeing pulled and the surface below. Just the weight isn´t enough information for us to judge wheter it's impressive or not. But ju can tell that the horses are pulling hard and I'm preety sure they can drag a lot more and for a longer time than pitbulls. But they are quite impressive as well... :)
@ranapipiens89 The dogs weight is on rollers , you or I could pull the same thing the dog pulled on rollers. The horses weight is on a sled. No wheels just flat metal rails in the dirt.
thats more than more than 2 times there body weight cuz Belgian horses usually weigh around 2,000 pounds thats amazing it just goes to show what horses can dn
@jwmb224 Why are you two obsessed with free jumping? Is that the only thing you know? Cutting cattle is terrible on their tendons, as are all horse sports. Please, there's no room for a rebuttal.
those are beautiful horses :)

I taught my younger brother to ride on an unbroken young clydesdale when we were only young kids. He seemed to be a mountain of an animal and getting up onto his back in the first place was a mission in itself,so funny, so gentle even when he bucked it seemed to be in slow motion. And I agree with TiaSweden, AWESOME

u guys are so mean. cant you see the horses struggling to pull those weights? imagiane u pulling 900lb could u do it, it would be tourcher so why are u making the poor horses pull the heavey weights? things like this make me want to put 900lb on u why are people so mean our days? if you agree with me say agree
coleencarvajal 6 months ago
@coleencarvajal Because they were built for it. Do you not see them prancing in anticipation? If they did not want to do this, their owners would not be able to make them do it.
asmodayose 4 months ago
@coleencarvajal
How does that even make any sense? These horses weight 10x as much as I do, and the weight is distributed between two of them. Obviously these animals are much larger than humans and have been bred selectively to pull heavy loads. P.s. use spell check next time

@AbieyieLovesYou

Kyomikoneko 9 months ago
@AbieyieLovesYou Me being a horse rider and a lover of horses, I understand that these draft horses were bred specifically for this work. Saying they shouldn't do it is like saying thoroughbreds shouldn't race. Read their body language, if you can: they are not in pain or discomfort, they are excited. They just can't wait to pull that thing.
Jailbirdx 9 months ago
@Jailbirdx hmm.. i guess so.. but, we, as humans, will never know what animals are thinking, we just do what we think is right for them..
AbieyieLovesYou 9 months ago
@AbieyieLovesYou Just like how you can tell what a person is thinking by their body language, you can tell what an animal is thinking (or the gist of it, anyway) by its body language.
Jailbirdx 9 months ago
@AbieyieLovesYou Im pretty sure that they enjoy doing it. you can tell from body language. being a horse rider you should know horse talk, id imagine. Or maybe you dont pay attention to your horses and just sit on their backs. but that, to me, makes you no horse rider.
Its like saying sled dogs dont like sledding
For example, when you, as a human, have muscle and work out and run, it hurts not to. and you ache for it. youre naive if you think animals are different from us.
howlerkos 8 months ago
@howlerkos I know.. but no offence.. you don't really have the right to tell me what I think bout things, do you? And Yes, I do pay attention and care when I ride horses actually. And well, let me think, animals ARE different from us, duh? Horses are like best friends to me, and maybe you should do ABIT more research mate before you start arguing with other people's opinion.
Thanks.
AbieyieLovesYou 8 months ago
@AbieyieLovesYou

Work horses have been used to pull stumps, logs, etc. Stumps can be a much heavier load than this. What is the difference between a man/woman doing hard manual labor and these horses pulling a heavy load for a short distance? They are well cared for. Probably better than the owners.

PolkadotPrincess555 1 year ago 6
cruel... its just my option though. ya'll might not agree but. its only my option,
tommo2806 1 year ago
@tommo2806 i get that is your opinion, but let me explain this to you :) A lot of people don't seem to realize that a draft horse needs to be worked in some way (usually pulling) because without being worked with, a draft horse will lose the muscle it has and won't be able to support it's own bones easily. This isn't cruel, it is what they were born and bred to do. Draft horses are still used today in jobs like logging and other pulling things, it's natural and healthy for this breed! :)
NieneJonasHorses 1 year ago
@tommo2806 hey man, I'm just curious, what do you see that is cruel here?

ok i know i'm going to get a lot of hate for this, However.
The comment that keeps cropping up is "these horses are bred for this" that may be so, however making them to pull weights such as these on that surface is not good for them. it damages their shoulder, back and quarter muscles. The horses may be eager to do this work because they think it is good because their owners have taught them its good, however the amount of damage its doing to them is unimaginable!
cont.
wattamus 1 year ago 2
@wattamus Yes these horse are bred for this but i don't see why you have to go out and prove it.
Its like having a 4x4.... the majority of 4x4 owners have never taken their car out of a city but it doesn't make it any less of an off- road car. similarly just because your draft horse doesn't pull massive weights (they never would've been asked to pull weighs of t this size in the past) doesn't mean it is any less of a draft horse.
wattamus 1 year ago
@wattamus ....why wouldn't they be asked to pull weights this size in the past?? I would expect that they wouldve been required to pull similar weights and more often and for longer since they were the only means we had. Horses worked much harder and under much worse conditions then...they also have much better living conditions now: better feed, hay, supplements, medical care. This isn't work for these horses, its play; and it beats all the real 12+ hour work days of the past.

@blangus1 @blangus1 thats not entirely true.
KateFan 1 year ago
@KateFan oh they were never asked to pull anything they couldn't handle - like this. This is just for show. No heavy horse could pull this for long, never mind all day.

@blangus1 I guess it is just a good "reminder" for the young generations of how awesome these horses are! Gives me a lump in my throat watching it!
montesbugsalive 9 months ago
@blangus1 If that isn't the truth, I don't know what is! No one who loves horses mourns for the passing of the 'Good ol' days' of the work horse.
KnightHawke01 8 months ago
@wattamus A car is not a living thing. If a car doesn't live up to its full potential and if it doesn't get enough exercise, that's not going to hurt it. And even if it does... it's just a car. A horse is a living thing that has drive and purpose and needs something to do. Horses let you know when they don't want to do something. Trust me, these horses LOVE what they do. It's their playtime.
genevievedee 10 months ago
