it is not the most pleasant thing to do but if your dog's glands are full, they are very uncomfortable and my golden retrievers just don't feel good. After doing it enough I am use to it but I feel good my dogs feel better after. So I guess it's all in how much you love your dog.

@Drafty01 - I do my two golden retrievers and they both lie down when they see me coming with the gloves but I find it may be easier this way. If I insert my right finger and do the left gland it takes a few minutes because the hole where the fluid comes out gets crusted over like a glue top - after I finally get that one I gently turn my finger inside and grab the right gland upside down - in this position it seems to empty much easier. If your dog is eating grass check the glands
