  • now thats a band!!! A live performance.... no lip syncing..... I remember seeing this on Soul Train...Yes, Im a 70's baby... What happened to bands now? We are left with Chris Brown, justin (he looks like a girl) beiber, Trey Songz,....Beyonce, Rihanna, Nikki Minaj, Drake, Wheezy.....One Word describes them all..GARBAGE!

  • Cool.

  • @carloshpl2 Oooooooooooooo lmaooooooo!!!

  • look how they dance :D oh my god .. so cool

  • I know, I know, everybody's entitled to their opinion. People are always telling me that. And I'm entitled to mine too. I grew up "back in the day." Beatles, Motown, Sinatra, Eagles, WAR, Zeppelin, MJ, Prince, Police......are what I cut my teeth on, came of age listenin' to, learned to appreciate music from (these among others). But the music from the 60s, 70s, 80s aren't the only thing worth listening to. Can you say, Adele? And lots of HOF inductees were "untimely", but, oh well.

  • Haha look at the people dancing!

  • the dancing is wierd to us now but the music is timeless

  • That was some strange dancing 40 years ago.

  • just in case you don't know how to dance.....

  • One of the best bands ever!

  • when Soul Train had Soul

  • when soul train had live performances

  • NOW THIS IS MUSIC!!!!!

  • Dolphins Head Coach Sparano sent out a spirited message 2Dolfans-He said he needs you all at the stadium 2REPRESENT & that the team needs your support & undying loyalty-He finished up with We're going 2get there (GET THERE-WHERE? DAMN-iT!) one way or the other-I hope its with you but we'll do it without you-What do you think about his message-Will you be cheering on the Fins @SunLifeStadium this season-Sound off here @WPLG Your responses will be read on WPLG Local10News @6am "BELiEVE"

  • AGORA Columbus, Ohio Only white person there. There was no color, just great music and good weed!

  • Wow that was live not prerecorded

  • @ocarrington, Isn't that sick!! And they still GOT IT! I know firsthand. I just heard them play this in concert a few days ago. They now have to call themselves THE LOWRIDER BAND, but they ARE STILL WAR. Peace.

  • Love the dude on the organ. So fonky lol...

  • old skool herk n jerk

  • I smell pure unadulterated Funk!

  • Great band, great song.. but the dancing is so FUNNY!

  • @danpfd No its not funny. Its a black thang. Its called soul dancing. Its not that off beat generic white bullshit.

  • @enmaxus you sound like a racist.. why do you have to say "black thang" and "white bullshit" ?? .... grow up!!

  • @danpfd Not a racist, not at all but by your "FUNNY" comment, I view it as a put down. And it is a "Black Thang...and you wouldnt understand." And that was made very obvious by your comment. So you "grow up!!!" But its cool to see you enjoy good ol' soul music. Pull up a sit and sit a while maybe we will feed you some collard greens, fried chicken and corn bread. LOL!!!!

  • Please go the rock and roll hall of fame - rockhall.com/get-involved/interact/poll/ - to vote for WAR to be inducted - you will be voting for the ORIGINAL group - this is something that can't be taken away from them.

Love this video and the dancing - that's what real music makes you do!

  • @chestmary I tried but couldn't find how to do it...

  • @TotalDesignZ, Thanks for trying but the voting is over and WAR/LOWRIDERBAND did not get inducted to the R&RHOF for 2012. They got passed over so they could let the Beastie Boys (who sample WAR) get inducted instead. Can you believe that BS?!!

  • @lowriderbandfan Beastie Boys! Is that even music? This is bullshit. War is one of the cornerstones of music. This is bull!

I kid you not. I have NEVER listened to a song by the Beastie Boys. Heard of them, yes, but never on purpose listened to a song from them.

  • @TotalDesignZ If you've never listened to the Beastie Boys, I recommend you do so, rather than just condemning their music without any foundation. They have a few lesser known funk albums from earlier in their career that should provide a suitable answer to your "Is that even music?" question. That said, War should be in the HoF, no doubt.

  • @grizzly44 Brother grizzly, it was a question, not really a statement as like I said, to my knowledge, I have never heard a song from them that I KNEW was them anyway.

In any case, I can admit when I'm wrong. PM me with a few links to some good stuff and I'll post a reply here...

  • @grizzly44 There is still no logical reason for Beastie Boys to be in HOF before WAR.

  • @luvureally, They should have picked someone else off that list to induct for 2012. Or at least induct WAR at the same time as the Beastie Boys so the BB's could've given WAR their propers on the same stage, for their sampling of WAR's song Lowrider.

  • @chestmary YEP!!!!!

  • This is a classic video. Thank you for posting. maurice

  • no but i can smell that funk.

  • YEAH...THATS WESS UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Vote for WAR to be inducted into the 2012 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame @ wwwrockhallcom. They are loooooong overdue in getting their propers. Peace.

  • 11yrs old listening to this with my uncles ced and vince .....real music

  • LOWRIDERBANDFAN.... WOW I DIDNT KNOW ALL THAT , PLAINLY NEITHER DID THE GENT. THAT TRY TO EXPLAIN TO ME...... THANKS FOR THE CLEAR INSIGHT.. THATS WHY THEY CALL YOU " THE LOWRIDER BAND FAN.''. ENJOY YOUR DAY..

  • Hell ya!! Just opened for these guys last night and they melted the friggin place!!! Stamford CT yall! and the nicest guys I ever met - they even helped load OUR gear after the show!

  • @bubbawad, Great that you got to perform on stage before a live audience. Unfortunate that the band you opened for isn't really WAR.

  • @lowriderbandfan whatever they were hot... i perform before live audiences several nights a week...thats what i do..

  • @lowriderbandfan whatever they were hot... i perform before live audiences several nights a week...thats what i do..

also check wickipedia for 2000's activity...last line...weird...rack n roll baby!

  • ITS A TRIP TO THINK THAT THE WHITE GUY IN THE BAND........GOT WAR TOGETHER...I THINK WE SHOULD BE THANKFULL. .... GLASIAS HOMEBOY.. CUZ I STILL LOVE CRUISING TO THERE JAMS...

  • @LDC909VQ, The white guy in this vid didn't get WAR together. WAR was already a band before they were even called WAR, with the exception of Lee Oskar on harmonica who arrived with Burdon to the States. Eric Burdon who is not in this vid, was already famous with The Animals and was looking for a new band to perform with, heard the Night Shift, as WAR was called before, and the rest is history. I do give propers to Eric Burdon for recognizing pure talent, and showcasing it with his talent. Peace.

  • Every time I hear this song I wanna watch "American Me"

  • soooooooouuuuuuulllllll train!

  • wooow nice thnxs for postin ...war 1972 on soul train it jus dont get no better~!!!!

  • this is wat you call real music the music now is truly GARBAGE

  • @chris44hoptonline

Especially if it's Rap. What the hell happened to TALENT,

  • @importantisimo1...Correction. Especially if it's COMMERCIAL rap.

  • @chris44hoptonline Black people got soul, while whites got gay music.

  • This song was featured on an episode of Everybody Hates Chris and Poor Righteous Teachers sampled it for their song Rock this funky Joint. I figured I'd research the original on here

  • Love it!

  • Real Funky!

  • One of my favourite tunes of all time! Played my conga drum along countless times!

  • WOW! what a trip!

  • Love to grove to the soul music. Looked how the boogie. Make me start a grooving too.

  • Lee Oskar showing the world that Danish people are no stranger too the funk or the afro im so proud :-)

  • @scottishpride222, RESPECT!! Yes! I am proud of, and love the great Lee Oskar as well, and I'm not even Danish. : ) Lee Oskar still performs with 3 of the ORIGINAL men in this video, but they are now known as THE LOWRIDER BAND, because a greedy former producer of theirs STOLE THEIR WAR NAME. If you want to see the REAL WAR band in action you're NOT going to find it with the WAR COVER band that tours today. Never forget the REAL OG's of WAR, THE LOWRIDER BAND. Peace.

  • @lowriderbandfan thank you for the info i will spread the word:-) i have loved War's songs for many years and only found out a year ago that the white guy playing the mean harmonica was Danish this blew my mind i grew up in Denmark with a Scottish father hence the username and i never knew this surpricingly few people here in Denmark know about him witch is a crying shame im gonna do all i can to remedy that

  • Tupac 4 Ever!!!

  • I've noticed something: African-Americans don't wear Afros today like they did then. Improvement? Nice tune, by the way.

  • before our innocence just eroded with the day to day - we still thought it would all be good. what i wouldn't give to go back and maybe make a bigger difference, oh hell, we can still make a difference, just have to want to

  • BAja marimba

  • listen to the song "veterans day" by lil wayne, rick ross, birdman

if u like this song, i swear you'll love that one

  • Everytime I hear this song I think of "American Me"

  • Had to comeback to check out the dance moves this time, man I wish i lived through these times.

  • @Desperadounico Yea..I hear you - so very true. Maybe it's often unrecognized that the dance moves are so good because just listen to the MUSIC they got to dance TO! (The music was so good, the dance going down on it was equally good - the body moved to the music itself, mirrored it). Some of them danced to the bass line, some to the drum work, some worked the body to the melody line....it was whatever the person's ear was tuned to.

  • @hitomusic Yea I hear you, the song is freaking awesome

  • Why cant people today make songs like these today, this is freaking outstanding, revolution man.

  • born in 69 and raised up to respect a friend

  • that's how they did it in the 70's man! They gettin down with the moves. WAR the best of FUNK

  • so guys... this sounds like Q-Tip's Vibrant Thang.. :)

  • @neishawilson

No offense neisha, I would say that "Vibrant" sounds like War. Obviously the 70's soul train performance predates anything q-tip ever dropped (nuff respect to tip and tribe, but war is like more next level) . As you listen to more and more WAR songs you will find that rap music has borrowed a lot from them. With the exception of James Brown WAR is like the father of hip-hop instrumental basics:)

  • @4thelordlove, Now THAT'S the way to show RESPECT! to the OG's of WAR by 'delivering the word'! The ORIGINAL artists of WAR are so overlooked by the music industry and even by some of their so called fans, it's a shame. They deserve way better for all the beautiful, funky, jazzy, bluesy, iconic WAR sounds that they have given us. As OG WAR says, 3 fingers and a smile : ) my friend, and thanks for RECOGNIZING the ULTIMATE BAND in my opinion, which now goes by The LOWRIDER BAND. Peace, WARQUEEN.

  • These guys were SOOOOO damn ahead of their time. it's ridiculous. There ain't even the REMOTE possibility of anyone today coming close to this sound today. It can't even be duplicated.

    Truly amazing talent.

  • Funk,Jazz, Rock fusion at its best.No one does it better than War.

  • amazing band....so hot, not like the crap you hear today...this is TALENT ! BRAVO !

  • @pb4ueat1390, Hi, thank you for 'delivering the word' about WAR on their vids and thanks for the great comments on my channel. Had to post here since you are on private mode. Sorry about that, but you deserved a thanks! Peace to you, WARQUEEN.

  • My turn, at the D.J. Helm. It's one of those days.

  • lil wayne birdman rickross-veterans day sampled from this hot ass song

  • this song is in the movie.. american me

  • Born in 1983 n ive known dis song since i was a young lil girl till da day im gown... im 27 now. Thanx mom n dad for at least leavin me wit some knowledge of some good music!

  • and the kids today think they got cool music whatever

  • War keeping it real, wish I had my old stacks, miss the old days, Yeaaa Peace

  • DAMN! BLACK PEOPLE SURE CAN GROOVE, THEY ALL THE GOOD MOVES, ALL IKNOW HOW TO DO IS BANG MY HEAD AND THRASH AROUND HAHAHAHA.

  • @injunloco you do what you can Bro :) its all good

  • they always play this song on everybody hates chris. the beat is siiiicckkkk (:

  • This is one of the coolest bands...

  • @LP101A , Yeah they are. Make sure you don't go and get fooled by the karaoke lineup of WAR that currently tours. The REAL OG's of WAR are now called the LOWRIDER BAND because of an evil former producer stealing THEIR WAR name. I have seen both groups in concert and my WAR fan devotion stays with the LOWRIDER BAND, the "HEARTBEAT" of original WAR. Peace, WARQUEEN.

  • Get Up Stand UP :!!

  • @magikkris According to what someone just told me, Bob Marley liked War and asked them if he could use the riff for one of his own songs.

  • someone open a window in heah' - sho is funky!!

  • One of the greatest drummers who ever walked the earth. One of the greatest bass players who ever touched a bass guitar (he rewrote the book). The organ player could SING and did THINGS with that keyboard; Awesome! The lead guitar/lead vocalist could SING - Unreal vocal sound! Lee Oskar was one-of-a-kind. The music they played was bewildering. Fundamentally mind-boggling music! WHAT A BAND!!!

  • @hitomusic hey who is the drummer? i probly kno him but i cant get a good look at his face

  • @TheWardrumma He is Harold Ray Brown. He is one of the founders of the band, with the lead Guitarist. At 0:01 He just throws both sticks down to set it all up for his hook. Then check out how he kicks it off with his hook at 0:02-0:04. Brrrrraaatttt!.....Thunk!,...Tut-TAT!!!! As soon as he finishes the Tut-TAT!!!, they come in with the vocal line (right on the button) - "SLIPPIN INTO DARKNEEEESS!" At 0:50; he "pushes" right TROUGH the high hat with his WHOLE ARM. Unreal!!

  • @hitomusic thnx 4 the info

  • When I was 10 Soul Train was cool, then I grew a bit older.

  • Having first seen this video three months ago, I have now watched it close to 100 tomes - much too good, way too funky for the new generation!

Peace to all who love it too!!!

  • Just bought the CD!

  • Can you smell that? Pure funk.

  • @vscol That be Afro Sheen!

  • @vscol word up

  • @vscol: And it smells good....:D

  • @vscol Funk smells like blunts and fried chicken

  • @vscol i laughed so hard when i read that! f yea

  • @vscol and some reggae vibes in there as well

  • Poor righteous teachers! Much respect, and thanks for posting.

  • This is dedicated to everyone in N.El Monte who lived during this time of perfection..

  • the music industry began slippin into darkness when "the sugarhill gang" came out with that stupid rap song which i cant even think of the name of at this moment. now it is almost engulfed in darkness with very few original creative artists like war. it is all about money, image, etc. these great musicians cant even use their own group name nowdays. new musicians have gone from being influenced by bands like war to just plain out ripping them off. ..sad state of music today.

  • This is live....and it's sounds great....

  • Spectacular!

    Ever hear SO by War?

  • Spectacular!

Do You Have So by War? Ever Hear it?

    Tower of Power?

  • Anybody think this song inspired "Fly Like an Eagle"?

  • @organguy - Yes! Good catch. That was a rip-off, for sure. And this one is way better.

  • Damn I just got this on vinyl. Sounds so clean!

  • this song is still the jam, my daddy loved this band.

  • Has anybody noticed how "thin" we were in those days...????

  • WS67MVGC

  • How Fun-Kee do you wanna B? Nothing lick that rhythm guitar to set you in MoShun!

  • the S O U U U U U L L L L t r a i n !

  • that is a real organ, with moving parts. Drawbars are what you call the slidy things.

  • Now thats the real line up!!!... bring it back together fella's!!

  • Imagine a live band playing! At 2010 we can't put a band together anymore at any level.Just low quality guitar punk bands, and criminals rapping over a Casio Beat!

  • @joeholl3333 LOL.....I hear you man....

  • This is straight bananas! I remember this song, but I here it now in a whole different way.

  • Comment removed

  • I heard this on the bernie mac show when briana was messin with the nun and putting on makeup.

  • 2Pac Sampled This One..

Funky Aztecs Feat. 2Pac - Slippin Into Darkness (Official Music Video)+Lyrics :

    /watch?v=rg3fHggwIRA

  • funky as hell hah how bout that guy doing the robot? haha

  • God I love this song!!!

If it was about me it would be

    Slipped into Darkness. LOL

  • Rock this funky joint.

  • i am an old f@@k and this was and still is my fav group lov it to death

  • A little old school War

  • Lee Oscar has got to be one of the best harp players ever, but he sure doesn't look like he's got a whole lotta rythym when he's dancing on stage. Reminds me of Steve Martin as Naven Johnson in "The Jerk"

  • @florange00, lol, those are Lee's signature moves. Wouldn't be the same if I didn't get to see him doing what he does in concert. Love the great Lee Oskar, as well as the rest of the original gentlemen of WAR . Peace.

  • @florange00, ROFL, now that is a FUNNY movie!!

Steve Martin: It was never easy for me. I was born a poor black child.

  • @jkoff76 lol...you got me giggling all over again!!!

  • An era when music knew no limits or prejudice. Watched this when it was first broadcast. I loved WAR and always kept an eye out when they would appear on television. I still have an audio cassette of their set from Don Kirshner's "Rock Concert".

  • what a crowd!

  • HAHA! Dude freaked that robot @ 1:53 on the left! LOL

  • and smoking Endooo

  • Hair parted down the middle, sign of the deviant. 2:22

  • Yes it's that good.

  • Alot of good music has come and gone through the years, But I think that many would agree with me when I say that the 70s produced the BEST MUSIC of any decade. Bands like WAR, SANTANA, THE ISLEY BROS.,THE MOTOWN SOUND, AND ALL THE OLD SCHOOL FUNK, topped the charts. They just dont make good music like that anymore.

  • @outlaw7787 and rock

  • it's almost impossible to find this band on Youtube!!

  • @DrBraids , you and any other WAR fans, drop by my channel. I'll make it easy for ya. Peace, WARQUEEN.

  • and look ma, no lip sync......

  • Wow.. This song takes me back to being a kid. My mom would put on some music and clean the house. When she was done she was sip on Champale and dance with us kids. My mom was the best. I miss those days.

  • @Goddessofmydestiny that's relaly inspirational.

  • This was the song! LOL----Beads hanging from the doorway, and my dad playing the bongos with a roach clip attached to the side of his fro' piece. Ha! That was my house and this song illustrated it...

  • @flygirlmom ha! a roach clip!LOL! those were the days,i was a teenager myself and that was my first concert at 15 yr old,lol

  • and the world is still slipping further into darkness...

  • that dude in the white is cooler than barack obama on ice

  • great song!

  • this was before the thief known as Jerry Goldstein stole there shit and lied and said these were mexicans.. they were straight up black men.

  • @Linkbucks101, Yes! Lonnie Jordan needs to leave that puppetmaster Jerry Golddigger and get back with his OG bros, now the LOWRIDER BAND. We true WAR fans want this MAGIC back! Peace.

  • The FUNK is TIGHT!!! Luv it!!!

  • Love dude in the white at the beginning of the song he was gettin it!!!!

  • theres a rnb song in the 90s and someone used this sample

  • @Dabeat19 There's a lot of dumb shit these days, but this is the source, the genesis of life and joy itself. Dig it.

  • can you dig it!? well then brotha slide me some smooth skin soul brother... ... im 16 but i love war's music even tho i wasnt born back then i love old music compared to newer artist cause most shit now in days is just "fuck that bitch in tha ass yea yea yea yea gotta get that money o keep blowin doe" nah i dont like tht i like this this is music you can just sit back and relax to
  • @mrrelentless279 Props to the youth like yourself!!

    There's still some hope!!

Good to know you see through the BS.

  • This is the good ol music!! the music of today is spitty junk!!!!!

  • See, tons of black people can't dance either.

But they played killer shit back then.

  • @suckfist this is crappy video clip. the music is out of sync with the video. look at the DVD and you'll see they are all dancing on beat

  • @PhuckHue2 , I'm not seeing what you're seeing. Looks like their lips are in sync with the music to me. As for the dancing, people dance on beat, off beat, all over the place. Not sure how you can tell it's not in sync by that. Peace.

Thanks for posting HONANSOUL, I love this vid and anything by the OG's of WAR.

  • @PhuckHue2

No, the gyrations are still terrible--no improvement in the quality of the video or the syncing could fix that.

    These are seizure moves.

  • Awesome bands don't always get acknowledged for the input they had on the music history.

  • @angelface3121 THE ORIGINAL WAR MEMBERS HOWARD SCOTT,HAROLD BROWN BB DICKERSON AND THE LEGENDARY LEE OSKAR WILL BE PERFORMING THE CONCERTS IN THE PARK SERIES IN EL MONTE CALIFORNIA JULY 7TH.THEY ARE NOW THE LOWRIDER BAND GOOGLE THEM

  • T
