I HATE William Peter Blatty's style of writing, he has no skill. Ever seen the Princess Bride? In the TV version it erases the bit where the pirate gets hit with a dagger, then stabbed several times, so it goes from him running into a room straight to when he's on the floor with blood all over him. It was really confusing.
If there really is anything I can say about the prequels is that they did a much better job showing the first battle between Merrin and Pazuzu than that awful movie The Heretic (also posted on youtube). There is some good acting, camera work, and the story wasn't bad. The original alone was judged at it's time by some. It had to work it's way up. Most people I expect don't fully know the story. The prequels are flawed, but not bad. They just should have been better. Still not Heretic bad.

The original was Dominion. But they remade it into this cause they felt it wasn't scary enough. To an extent that's true. Dominion was different, but this was a throw back to the original. Even used smaller stuff from the original like the "My will is weak" line and the clock stopping. I thought it was okay. Skarsgard is my favorite actor and the different scares worked. Main problem with this is it's a very generic horror. We shouldn't have to decide on scary or new. The prequels needed both.
How'd others take it at the theatre? Cause I mean the first few times I watched this on dvd I couldn't sleep without the light on cause I thought that Captain Howdy face would jump out at me from the shadows. This movie didn't get alot of credit. Granted it maybe references the original movie a little more than it needs to and the tongue part was a bit much, but hey it's nowhere near as bad as Heretic. It's personally my third favorite of the series. Exorcist and Legion being my first two.
Yeah I get that. Most of us would freak out in that situation or at least step out of the way. Sometimes you have to laugh to relieve yourself and I'll admit it's kinda dumb that it made her go all the way at the end of the tunnel and have to run all that way to get to him, but it made for a climactic end. I've seen both versions of this and while Shrader made it more serious and original, Harlin did do better with the effects and scares which (though more generic than the first) worked.
This is sooo much better than the original exorcist. I loved it, thanks for uploading it. The acting it great, its not cheesy, and the babe really knows her stuff.
It's not better than the first. It's better than Heretic of course and horrorwise I think it did better than Dominion, but the original is the best. I have all the movies though and only Heretic really annoyed me.
For the Captain Howdy shots there is one to the side when Merrin first opens the chamber (not here but after the maggot baby) and in 8:22 here. In Dominion it's around far longer so you can see it there. As for the original it's all over the place in the version you've never seen before cut. You just always have to be ready. It's one of the scariest things for me cause it always shows up so unexpectedly and they don't see it (except whenever they used it in Dominion).

Ever seen the Princess Bride? In the TV version it erases the bit where the pirate gets hit with a dagger, then stabbed several times, so it goes from him running into a room straight to when he's on the floor with blood all over him. It was really confusing.

If there really is anything I can say about the prequels is that they did a much better job showing the first battle between Merrin and Pazuzu than that awful movie The Heretic (also posted on youtube). There is some good acting, camera work, and the story wasn't bad. The original alone was judged at it's time by some. It had to work it's way up. Most people I expect don't fully know the story. The prequels are flawed, but not bad. They just should have been better. Still not Heretic bad.

The original was Dominion. But they remade it into this cause they felt it wasn't scary enough. To an extent that's true. Dominion was different, but this was a throw back to the original. Even used smaller stuff from the original like the "My will is weak" line and the clock stopping. I thought it was okay. Skarsgard is my favorite actor and the different scares worked. Main problem with this is it's a very generic horror. We shouldn't have to decide on scary or new. The prequels needed both.

How'd others take it at the theatre? Cause I mean the first few times I watched this on dvd I couldn't sleep without the light on cause I thought that Captain Howdy face would jump out at me from the shadows. This movie didn't get alot of credit. Granted it maybe references the original movie a little more than it needs to and the tongue part was a bit much, but hey it's nowhere near as bad as Heretic. It's personally my third favorite of the series. Exorcist and Legion being my first two.

Yeah I get that. Most of us would freak out in that situation or at least step out of the way. Sometimes you have to laugh to relieve yourself and I'll admit it's kinda dumb that it made her go all the way at the end of the tunnel and have to run all that way to get to him, but it made for a climactic end. I've seen both versions of this and while Shrader made it more serious and original, Harlin did do better with the effects and scares which (though more generic than the first) worked.

It's not better than the first. It's better than Heretic of course and horrorwise I think it did better than Dominion, but the original is the best. I have all the movies though and only Heretic really annoyed me.

For the Captain Howdy shots there is one to the side when Merrin first opens the chamber (not here but after the maggot baby) and in 8:22 here. In Dominion it's around far longer so you can see it there. As for the original it's all over the place in the version you've never seen before cut. You just always have to be ready. It's one of the scariest things for me cause it always shows up so unexpectedly and they don't see it (except whenever they used it in Dominion).
