This is absolutely awesome! I love your ideas and might have to try to duplicate some! What kind of oil do you use in your lanterns? My husband has a problem with the smell of the lamp oil and gives him headaches...but that would really save us even more here on the farm! Next ice box I see at a sale will be mine too! :)
@farmergirl1122 A friend of mine once told me "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!" She had a real nack for decorating I would duplicate some of it! I've never forgot that saying and am always flattered when someone wants to duplicate something we do! We use dye free kerosene. Just learn your lamps to avoid the smell. One time your wick may want to burn high the next it may want to burn low. If it's any kind of draft you will get a smell. It just depends but it is a wonderful light!
@snaps81625 Thank you for such a wonderful comment, for taking time to watch our channel and taking time to encourage by leaving your comment! God bless you!
I would imagine you live a very fulfilling life. People are weak and coddled in this day and age and would never be able to cope in a pioneer situation. They don't have the patience or the skills or the inclination to do anything but push a button on a gadget. Very much enjoy your vids. Your kitchen is one big warm glow.
@fortbumper Hi! And thanks for your kind comment! Comments like those are very encouraging to us! Yes we can absolutely communicat directly. If you click on "ArtisanAcre" it should take you to our "main" you tube page. On there you should find an area where you can send a message. That wiill show up in a private message box, just like email. If you have any problems though let us know and I will send you an email for us just to make it easier.
I envy you. I wish my husband would be agreeable with this lifestyle. I can't get him to agree to a 2 bedroom 1 bath home with a plan Jane cell phone. Lol. My grandmother raised me. I remember harvesting, canning, starter for sourdough bread, making candles & soap. However there is a lot I don't remember. However it's a life one can't lead alone. You need a help mate.
@kijordan1 I'm sorry I'm just now replying I actully did try to reply when we got your comment but it wouldn't. We've been having computer problems actually did lose ours sharing with one of our sons right now I wanted to encourage you you are right to live this if you both aren't in agreement is difficult! But you can bloom where you are even if its just with from scratch cooking and bucket gardening. My husband was slow to come to it too but once he did there was no turning back Blessings!
Some would say impoverished. Others, like myself disagree. In my opinion, impoverished is being left without a choice. It's not uncommon to see camper trailers having extensions built on to them. Logging is a pretty common money getter here in Olive Hill. Two rough cut lumber mills can supply pretty much everything needed. 1000 board ft. rough hemlock is between $350.00 and $400.00. It makes great siding and the more narrow boards are ripped for the battens.
Your lifestyle is in no way odd. It's quite common here in eastern Kentucky, including my own home. I like the size of the kitchen. As a matter of fact, I think one huge room would be more beneficial as far as heating goes. Quilted partitions for the sleeping areas might be nice. I'm getting so many ideas from your video as to better my place. I like the use of several lamps at once. What I don't like is how the cost of kerosene has gone up. Watching more of your videos now. Thanks for sharing.
@silverjinglebobspur1 Wow! That would be so nice to be in an area where others live similar! We feel really alone here in our lifestyle. I totally agree about the one huge room! Our kitchen is as big as we could get it, knocked out walls etc. If we could get it bigger we would. Kerosne has gone through the roof! Its pretty bad when someone considers burning ele over kerosene because it's cheaper LOL
@ArtisanAcre We also feel alone in our lifestyle here in Central North Alberta, Canada. Living Off the Grid, provides us some accountability for what we use, and we are by no way 100% there yet on our 3.1 acres, but we are moving toward being able to sustain ourselves, without outside jobs. We love our way of life and thank God for youtube, so we can connect with folks like you.
@campfirepoetry So glad you found our channel becuz that helped us find yours, just subscribed this a.m. Would love to hear more about your rural lifestyle! Do you currently work outside of the homestead and if not do you mind me asking what kind of work do you do on it to bring income in? How do you prepare for those times where there are income gaps? Is Alberta very rural? Thanks for watching and commenting! Blessings!
Wow, I really admire your lifestyle. In recent months I've been working on getting back to basics starting with cooking from scratch. It's been a learning process but an enjoyable one.
@aptharsia Cooking from scratch is were we started. I got the dates wrong in the video though, we started scratch cooking in 1992, I think I said 1995 in the vid, but I did feel like redoing the video :). I love cooking the old ways! Its sounds like you find it satisfying also. I would like to do some videos on cooking, from breads, main dishes, canning, cheese making, butter, hand churn ice cream just to name a few. That is one of our next projects. Thanks for your comment!
@ArtisanAcre I hope to see more videos from you! Especially some of the baking and cooking and hand churned ice cream (which I keep saying I want to make one day.) I can't wait for more videos! :)
Btw - 2-liter bottles ... ENGENIOUS

Quick question, do you always burn so many lamps or did you do it just for the videos? Just curious, not meaning to sounds snarky or anything

Your lifestyle is very similar to ours!
Thank you for posting your videos. They are encouraging to other homesteaders and helpful for newcomers to this lifestyle.
Would it be possible for us to communicate with you directly?
We are new to youtube and unfamiliar with how it works...
