I too play a six, and I love using those exact chords that you're using. Good stuff! (You're a lot better at the in-between fills, though. That's a major weak spot of mine.) I also really like the descending chord melody you did at 0:42 - the E minor triad to D# augmented to that lovely D chord with the minor third and major sixth (this caught me off guard - I'm gonna have to steal that chord from you :P ) and then the C# dominant leading right back home. I'm inspired!
Awesome stuff..Suuper solid, put some drums and keys with you and youde have a fine soundin group. Seriously, i love bass chordal stuff, im jsut jumping into doing it myself so this is cool to learn from.
Probably for two reasons... you get better tone with each finger on a note individually plus it allows you more control when you alter the chord (can move any voice in the chord easily by just moving one finger as opposed to now having to swing all of the fingers in to make a new chord)
wow i wasnt expecting a reply from the source itself.. couldnt asked for a better perso nto reply. first of all great palying irrelevant of sex. I own a musicman man stringray 5 but im looking for somethin a bit more relaxed and calm from the explosive sound of the msuciman in order to play more relaxing tunes like latino and smooth jazz. is that bass a neck through?
The Ibanez was a bolt on. That Ibanez in the video was heavily modded, so it was no longer a stock model. The basses I am playing now (Spector, Syme/LightWave, and a Rickenbacker) are all neck through. I have found both the Spector and the LightWave basses to be very flexible for what I do...you can do chords, jazz, latin, big band, rock. I've been very happy with both basses.
Thanks for checking out my video. That video was done with an Ibanez SR series bass. I sold that bass last fall and purchased a Spector Euro LX6. I also play a Syme/LightWave fretless 5 string and NS Designs CR-5 electric upright.
is it Steffi Graf ?

@lunchmeat317 Okay....I realized that it's an inversion of a B diminished triad. Definitely time to start messing around with specific triad voicing.

JC, I LOVE your version of this tune. Always have. We've both have great taste in influences/bass teachers. ;^)

Geeze, I had a bit of a time doing this when I played guitar. Now I'm over to bass, and I would think it's a wee bit harder.

You could probably pull it off, but the chords might be tricky, or a little bit limited.

why dont you bar the notes with your index finger rather than contorting your hand so each finger can reach a fret?
sorry if this sounds confusing
DJLimez 3 years ago
There's more than one way of skinnin' your rabbit DJL. Besides that fretboard is a mite wid, and I am fine sure I couldn't barre across it...
Great finger style.
No problem 5 stars.
