Lost, you never fail to amaze me. It's been nineteen months since The End, but I still feel shivers run down my body and tears fall from the brim of my eyelids when I re-watch you. You captivated an audience like no other television show has done before or ever will do again. "People are reaching for the stars here. And maybe beyond. Really, there's never been anything like it." (Quote from Stephen King about the greatest show ever - LOST.)
Season 3 is definitely my least favorite season, but I must say the finale was awesome. I remember being confused when Kate got out of the car. I was like huh? And to finally realize that they got off the island! I was like whoa. It really catapulted the series into a new and exciting direction!
@mooki33 It had two top five episodes - Through the Looking Glass and The Man Behind the Curtain. The Man From Tallahassee and The Brig were also really good ones. And I don't care who says otherwise, Expose was a great episode.
I remember being very upset after watching this scene. It meant so much in the context of the whole season that preceded it. Now it means nothing and I feel nothing. That's disappointing.
@AndyDufresne2342 I felt there was a huge build-up and mysteries on top of mysteries on top of mysteries on top of tales of broken hearts. And then the ending came out sappy. It left a stale taste with me. Perhaps I am just not a big believer in Hollywood endings and the overwhelming sweetness and sugarcoating associated with them. And lastly, I had lost track of the story somehwere in season 5. It was twisted, complicated and long and I failed to overlook it in entirety.
@AndyDufresne2342 I dont mean this scene. This is my personal shark jump scene. Or the zenith of the show if you will. It blew my mind. Afterwards the whole feel of the show deteriorated imho. Just sayin, cuz you asked.
Summer 2007. I was working McDonalds overnight 1 hour after the finale aired. I was down in the stockup room, sitting on a box filled with medium cups. Contemplating the future/past of the island. I felt LOST.
this finale is fucking brilliant, the best of the show and one of the best i've ever seen... i also wish i could forget that i've ever seen this show so i could enjoy it again
one of the most brilliant wtf moments in tv history. amazing writing and acting. jack is so broken here and to see him like that and wanting so desperately to get back to the island was heartbreaking and surprising. the writers played it so well. i never saw this coming. miss lost. one of tv's best shows ever!
Nothing will ever beat Season 1 - not because the other seasons didn't have fantastic episodes - but just because Season 1 of Lost was so unlike any other show ever shown on TV. EVERYONE watched the show. NO ONE knew what was going to happen next, and every twist and turn turned drove people insane with how fantastic the show was. Lost honestly changed television - no show will ever be like it again.
@ScarlettOcean92 "No ONE knew what was going to happen next" you can say that about every season, who knew they would be rescued in Season 4 and not the series finale, who knew that they would even leave the island. This episode shows just how creative and differe Lost is. Flash Forwards ftw!!!
Matthew Fox's acting may have been a little shaky at times, but the fact that he didn't even get nominated for an Emmy here is the reason I never take them seriously. And I've never found Jon Hamm to be that spectacular on Mad Men.
@sign84 :D :D I've seen Dexter, Breaking Bad and Lost, and this is still the best twist and on of the best 5 finales ever. (You really should see Breaking Bad) :D
i almost couldnt watch the scene properly because id just had my mind blown, it was the same thing when jack says i died too talking to christian, same reaction but instead of gasps, i started crying whilst gasping because i started to realise how it was going to end, then i was blown away my the music and the scene and the intercutting of him dying and him being with everyone, i love this show , i actually love it
@rob87s I can´t believe how many dumbasses give the last 10 minutes of season 6 a 10+ because of the empty promise of live after death. and yes, you are right, you have the intellect of a baby
and if any of you dickheads think that the season 6 ending wasnt as good as this ending, PAHAHA you idiots, i cried like a fucking baby being stolen from its mother when jack was dying and it closed everything up on jacks journey , this show was the motherfucking daddy of everything. WHen jack smiles as the plane flies over head and closes his eye, behind my tears in my mind i was thinking, so there we go... ive just watched the greatest experience in media possible! what a piece of genius
@FootballAndXbox He did, until he realized John was right. He had a destiny on the island. Remember, in story time, Locke had gotten into a car accident before this scene. He had visited Jack, and told him he saw his father on the island. That his name was Christian. And that Jack KNEW he wasn't supposed to leave, that those left behind would die, and Jack needed to help John get everyone together to return to the island. But John failed. Died. And Jack felt the guilt. Oooooooh, such guilt.
When I first saw it, at the beginning I was so angry thinking ... bloody hell they already know each other? that makes no sense...then holy crap this changes everything!
Even though I hate what this show became in the end, there's no doubting this was possibly the best twist/finale moment in modern TV history. If only the whole series had ended with quality writing like this instead of a sappy cast reunion.
of course the funeral invitation was for you know who to be revealed in the next season, what a mind trip thinking about the multi path narrative going on between, different timesand ugh, a headache.
I will NEVER forget the way it felt the first time I saw this. My mom and I were silent during this ENTIRE scene and for 10minutes after, when we just stared at each other like :-O!
This ending blew my mind. Shivers were racing up and down my body while I watched it, and I was in shock - speechless - for several minutes afterward. This scene is brililant in so many ways: we find out here that the show is ultimately about the island. We also see Jack do a complete 180. The man who wanted to leave more than anything is now profoundly broken inside. There was no predicting where Lost would go after this finale. And finally, the acting is just phenomonal. Best twist in history.
@PopitCaaa This was a trick on us by the writers by making us think Season 3 finale was Jack flashback episode. It's not it's a flash-forward three years after the crash. Season 4 is about how certain people got off the island and what they've been doing in the years since shown in the flash-forwards. Season 4 finale shows what Jack does he rest of this night after Kate leaves.
Jack Shephard: Every Friday night I, I fly from LA to Tokyo or, Singapore, Sydney. And then I, I get off and I, have a drink, and then I fly home.
Kate Austen: Why?
Jack Shephard: Because I wanted to crash, Kate. I don't care about anybody else on board. Every little bump we hit or turbulence, I mean I, I actually close my eyes and I pray that I can get back.
I really do miss this show too. A brilliant show you had to think about. Incredible character development. I don't think I have ever seen anything like it or will again. 10/10 and one of the best shows of the decade for sure.
This scene forever changed the show...for the better. I remember watching it at home with my mouth open and my phone blowing up afterwards from my friends. Such a great moment from an amazing show.
This scene (episode) took Lost from being a great show to the best show ever. Every time I watch it, I'm reminded how brilliant it was when I saw it the first time.
@Scream358 Same. My heart was pounding so fast when Kate was walking up. I got to find someone who's never seen Lost so I can watch it with them. Relive the moment through 'em.
this finale and season 5's finale were the best ones with lost. this one because you never saw it coming. the writers played it well. the island timeline where jack desperately wanted to get off the island and then turnaround jack here wanting to get back. broken and 'lost'. that was totally unexpected. pretty heartbreaking to see jack in this state. and season 5's finale learning that the real locke was actually dead and seeing that mib had taken his form was a big wtf moment.
He said in the hospital "GET MY FATHER down here.. and if he isn't drunker than me then i'll let you fire me." but if this is after they left they island... this was after jacks father was already dead. ???
@BRANSCOMBEx - there are two explanations for Jack saying that 1) He doesn't give a shit and just tells the doctor to go find his father or 2) Jack has "seen" Christian sitting in the lobby of the hospital- this is a season 4 flashforward but it happens before this scene as Jack and Kate are happy together.
Sorry for the spoiler, I was trying to inform without outright ruining it for you just in case.
@BRANSCOMBEx@BRANSCOMBEx the thing is that Jack knew very well what was he saying when he said it,because someone in the hospital probably knew about his father's drinking and tolerated that because he was a great doctor, and that's why Jack was ironic about that,he said "Get my father down here" like "Get him here....You've tolerated his sh*t for so long so don't give me that crap now"..Hope it helps.
this isn't the season 3 finale. the season 3 finale was one of my fav episodes. it's the one where the guy with the fake beard gets shot by sawyer and charlie drowns in the underground dharma center. and they also haven't left the island yet
@imadude07 Really? well i have a question for you. If charlie drowns in season 2 then how is it that in the season 2 finale Charlie is is trapped in the hatch with mr. ecko after locke refused to enter the numbers? I have an even better question. If charlie dies in season 2 then how is it that in season 3 Desmond is having visions of charlie dieing? 1 season after you say he diedyou are right about 4 and 5 though
@g3orgeapp 1. Jeremy Bentham (Locke under a fake name)
2. No this is 3 years after the island, Jack's Dad is still gone. Season 4 shows how Kate, Jack and a few more got off the island while also showing what they do in civilzation for 3 years. It shows Locke dead on this night in the Season 4 finale. Season 5 picks up after that night and shows what happened to the people on the island for 3 years in and how Locke got off the island then died in the beginning episodes.
SPOILER: also, the season 6 flash-sideways were criticised, but again, i didn't care that they didn't make sense, i just saw them as a treat; a way for the writers and actors to deliver all the moments we'd been wanting (Sawyer/Juliet re-union, Jack/Christian talk, and so on). Long live Lost!
people criticise lost for being too far-fetched/ridiculous/confusing/unrealistic/whatever but the fact is, i just don't care...for me it's not about the story, and whether it makes sense, or whatever...it's about the characters. this is probably one of the most mind-blowing pieces of television i've ever seen, and what makes it is the characters, and the acting...even the very idea going back being introduced like that was inspired.
This was just amazing te way they set it up with thinking Christian was still alive, seeing Jack's ex-wife thinking she's why he is broken, this coupled with the emotional ringer of seeing Charlie slowly drift away just before this. The final shock of Kate coming out of the shados and the emotional pain Jack displays with her and all the other suffering him in we saw in this episode this is by far the best plot twist the show ever made.
it was shocking to see jack like this. he ignored locke's advice about staying on the island and here he was desperately wanting to get back. brilliant turn in the story. so unexpected. the writers kept throwing things in that made you think this was a flashback. the writers were so good at keeping you stumped and clueless as to where the story was heading. the flash-sideways in S6 was great.
this ending and the season 5 ending with mib as locke were the trippiest finales. when kate came out of the shadows and jack was saying it was mistake to leave the island was confusing as hell but absolutely brilliant. major wtf moment. one timeline showed jack desperately on a mission to get off the island and then this scene where he was completely changed and talking crazy about hoping the plane would crash and not caring about anyone on board was so unexpected. i was shocked & moved by this.
I'll never forget the time I first saw this scene. It was then that I realized just how amazing this show was - is. Lost bent the rules, not just of reality, but of conventional television. Something this beautiful and this wonderful may never happen again, and I'm proud to say I was along for the ride.
@ameilaadams what the hell are you doing reading comments on this for then? You know well people will be talking about the show in full so its your own fault
This LOST FINALE and most Lost Season Finales are WAY better than the actual series finale which needed HELP ....so because of that.. we all need to GO BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!!!
By far this scene showed Lost after 3 years could shock the majority of viewers and change everything about to show. I cant think of any other show that has ever pulled this off. Yes one of the best moments in TV history.
this is probably one of the single most shocking moments of the show. to see this before it even happens really messes with the mind. one of the greatest moments of television possible.
This was the BEST way to end the first half of Lost.

This scene forever changed the show...for the better. I remember watching it at home with my mouth open and my phone blowing up afterwards from my friends. Such a great moment from an amazing show.

this was one of the few great scenes where we actually see the emotional struggle that jack went through - brilliant and perfect for a finale!
slayr399 1 year ago
If lost got canceled after season 3 (ie. this episode)....it would've went down as the greatest show ever.
After this we slowly lost an emotional connection with the characters to the point where it didn't bother me very much if people died in season 6.

AndyDufresne2342 1 year ago 2
this finale and season 5's finale were the best ones with lost. this one because you never saw it coming. the writers played it well. the island timeline where jack desperately wanted to get off the island and then turnaround jack here wanting to get back. broken and 'lost'. that was totally unexpected. pretty heartbreaking to see jack in this state. and season 5's finale learning that the real locke was actually dead and seeing that mib had taken his form was a big wtf moment.

SOMEONE please explain this..
He said in the hospital "GET MY FATHER down here.. and if he isn't drunker than me then i'll let you fire me." but if this is after they left they island... this was after jacks father was already dead. ???
BRANSCOMBEx 1 year ago
@BRANSCOMBEx yes its 3 years after theyre left the island. any more is spoliers so just watch the series :)
justfunnythings 1 year ago
@BRANSCOMBEx - there are two explanations for Jack saying that 1) He doesn't give a shit and just tells the doctor to go find his father or 2) Jack has "seen" Christian sitting in the lobby of the hospital- this is a season 4 flashforward but it happens before this scene as Jack and Kate are happy together.
Sorry for the spoiler, I was trying to inform without outright ruining it for you just in case.
crazyhorse08011972 1 year ago
@BRANSCOMBEx @BRANSCOMBEx the thing is that Jack knew very well what was he saying when he said it,because someone in the hospital probably knew about his father's drinking and tolerated that because he was a great doctor, and that's why Jack was ironic about that,he said "Get my father down here" like "Get him here....You've tolerated his sh*t for so long so don't give me that crap now"..Hope it helps.

I JUST watched this episode. Been watching a few episodes a night for the last few months lol.
my jaw dropped. i got tingles. shocked. even felt scared for jack

@BRANSCOMBEx Yeah as you can see not everyone is exactly friendly with each other off the island. There are many factors that drove Jack to this

this isn't the season 3 finale. the season 3 finale was one of my fav episodes. it's the one where the guy with the fake beard gets shot by sawyer and charlie drowns in the underground dharma center. and they also haven't left the island yet

@chris978820 It's all in the same finale.my friend.

ThatsWhatSheSaid0012 1 year ago
@chris978820 yes it is 3. season 2 is when charlie drowns. season 4 shows locke's dead body, and season 5 is the bomb igniting.
imadude07 1 year ago
@imadude07 Charlie drowns in the season 3 finale. Remember, he had to swim to the underwater station?
scarryterry 1 year ago
@imadude07 Really? well i have a question for you. If charlie drowns in season 2 then how is it that in the season 2 finale Charlie is is trapped in the hatch with mr. ecko after locke refused to enter the numbers? I have an even better question. If charlie dies in season 2 then how is it that in season 3 Desmond is having visions of charlie dieing? 1 season after you say he diedyou are right about 4 and 5 though

an absolute crime that fox wasn't nominated for an emmy just because of this scene

1)who's dead??
and 2)if all this on the last two episodes was flash forwards then, is Jack's father alive?
g3orgeapp 1 year ago

Long live Lost!
tg2201 1 year ago
people criticise lost for being too far-fetched/ridiculous/confusing/unrealistic/whatever but the fact is, i just don't care...for me it's not about the story, and whether it makes sense, or whatever...it's about the characters. this is probably one of the most mind-blowing pieces of television i've ever seen, and what makes it is the characters, and the acting...even the very idea going back being introduced like that was inspired.
tg2201 1 year ago 2
This was just amazing te way they set it up with thinking Christian was still alive, seeing Jack's ex-wife thinking she's why he is broken, this coupled with the emotional ringer of seeing Charlie slowly drift away just before this. The final shock of Kate coming out of the shados and the emotional pain Jack displays with her and all the other suffering him in we saw in this episode this is by far the best plot twist the show ever made.

Matthew Fox's performance in this scene is so incredible, he deserved an Emmy for this 4 minutes alone.
ilidiankid 1 year ago 8
it was shocking to see jack like this. he ignored locke's advice about staying on the island and here he was desperately wanting to get back. brilliant turn in the story. so unexpected. the writers kept throwing things in that made you think this was a flashback. the writers were so good at keeping you stumped and clueless as to where the story was heading. the flash-sideways in S6 was great.
musomannz 1 year ago
this ending and the season 5 ending with mib as locke were the trippiest finales. when kate came out of the shadows and jack was saying it was mistake to leave the island was confusing as hell but absolutely brilliant. major wtf moment. one timeline showed jack desperately on a mission to get off the island and then this scene where he was completely changed and talking crazy about hoping the plane would crash and not caring about anyone on board was so unexpected. i was shocked & moved by this.

I'll never forget the time I first saw this scene. It was then that I realized just how amazing this show was - is. Lost bent the rules, not just of reality, but of conventional television. Something this beautiful and this wonderful may never happen again, and I'm proud to say I was along for the ride.

The single best scene in the entire series run. Shocking and mysterious plot shift that made the wait for Season 4 nearly impossible.
