  • @Threeothree33 AHHHHHHHHH!!!

  • Thumbs up for those who were looking for the1971 Version and got dissapointed by this crappy 80s shit.

  • WHO IS THE DRUMMER!!!??? he is so fuckin cool. I can understand the name when Curtis Mayfield say it :/ PLEASE SOMEONE SAY ME THE NAME!!!!! :P

  • the energy in that room (amazing/unbelievable)

  • kanye westtt

  • 4:41 i am sure that i heard that on another song, help!!!

  • @nikitofin It goes kinda like, you make me wanna shout! Put my hands up and shout!

  • Relativity, people! Get some perspective! Yes, lousy DX-7; sometimes you have to take what you get on tour and do the best you can with that! Or, yeah, add a horn section and double your production costs ... The original came out in September 1970; this show has to be 10-12-15 years later! How much do you think he made at this gig? And, still the man [and the band] grooved it! Yes, r.i.p. Curtis! And, complainers, get educated: en.wikipedia . org/wiki/Curtis_Mayfield
  • Wonderful.++++++

  • Attends c'est quoi cette version de merde?? What the hell is that louzy shitty version?? NOM DE DIEU, BORDEL DE MERDE!! FAUX NUL ZERO!

  • What a treat the fans got at such a small venue...people want to pick apart the sound?all i seen was smiles on the crowds face..rip curtis!

  • curtis mayfield you are epic

  • thank you Curtis, what a beautiful voice

  • For better or worse, Synths and reverb excess were the defining sounds of the 80's. This is not the worst of it. I can point you to far worse synth nightmares in the performances of lengendary acts during that period.

  • Some of you are going over the top about the synth. Its not that big of a deal. These are master musicians. The performance is first class!

  • Look at the audience, says it all- doesn't matter when or where!

  • Of course horns would have been better, but that drum solo was boss.

  • So weak man... I'm gonna have to go out and buy the vinyl man

  • Lee Goodness is a drum god !!

  • Im sure it just came down to the fact the record company didn't want to pay for a full horn section and the synth cut the costs and got the job done

  • Sure the keyboard is cheesy, but none the less, its a great song and a great live performance!

  • Is it just me or at the VERY beginning of this video, is that Oprah Winfrey?

  • Beautiful guitar playing, signature Curtis falsetto, funky bass, two fantastic solos on percussion...but Mayfield's best horn riff gets replaced with a synth? Very disappointing in that aspect, otherwise its legendary!

  • Lee Goodness is the man!

  • @smcleod04 just type "haque" and a live version of move on up will come up. It has the best conga solo ever, in my opinion, and Lee does a great solo as well. Its also a very diffrent version of the song. Hope you enjoy!

  • what a drum solo

  • curtis baby rocks raped the horns on the 7inch

  • :::::::::::GREAT:::::::::::::::

  • Very Cool

    Excellent share Gus

Robin Ariel Ross St Claire Holgate

  • Excellent!! THanks for the share:)

    Grandma Mary

  • Don't go down too heavy on the man for using a synth instead of a horn section. The math is one player versus two or three. 10 years after an act is a chart-breaking property they have to face the economics of touring, and keeping it as big as it was in the seventies might make it infeasible.

  • Ohhh my..... Even a $20 mobile phone sounds better nowadays, than this crappy synth...

  • yea the synth is cheesy but Curtis still makes it awesome!!! And holy shiz this was a great live show, listen to that drummer and percussion!

  • Curtis. one of the greatest soul stars.

  • CURTIS WILL ALWAYS STAY IN MY HEART

HE IS THE ONE WHO KNOWS THE MEANING OF "SOUL"

  • EVEN WITHOUT HE HORN SECTION, THE MAN IS STILL GREAT!!! GREAT SONG..

  • 7:34 she look like beyonce...im like BEYONCE WAT THE HELL YOU DOIN THERE!!

  • @sagittariusbaby0750 Could be her mom

  • the synth is not TERRIBLE but it is not needed

  • to fast this version are

  • 2 days later, I saw Curtis in Folkestone, was in the bar buying 2 x Guiness and a girly drink for my love when the opening bars of "move on up" came on, a track I first bought on tape on Bhudda Records, I was mortified

  • listen to it again, watch the bongo man tell me their aint feeling. its just 80s cos thats when it was done.

  • this version sucks..

  • I love you Mr. Mayfield and I miss you.

  • Everything is great except for that awful sounding keyboard!

  • I have this DVD, "Live At Ronnie Scott's" and I dig it. I have to agree, those 80's synths got in the way. It's still Curtis though.

  • he had to choose between two horn players or a conga drum master...........

  • to me the dank ass electric piano more than makes for the synths not to mention the dank ass song lol

  • Wow. Curtis is the man. He is the poet of a generation. He spoke for so many of us. Such inspiration. An artist like this will live on and on. Go on Curtis...keep on moving up.

  • AWESOME!!!!!

  • Wow I was about 16 when I danced to Curtis Mayfield and this song...

I loved it then and still love it now....it stands the test of time.

    A real classic !

God bless Curtis Mayfield and his groove.....

  • Seriously, there is something magical in this man's music and presence.

    brings tears to my eyes

  • This song has made me realize why "the movement" will be equal to the music we are fed!

  • 12 people had labotomy's

  • awesome. Thank you for posting.

  • I like this keyboard sound. The simple synthetic brass sounds bring me back memories.

  • That was absolutely freaking amazing

  • where was this recorded?

  • fire

  • Come on let's MOVE ON UP!!!

  • Pure magic.....

  • what a sound....and swing....love it....always

  • Mister Mayfield i was a lil-boy when i first herd your music , but it always stuck with till this day i play your music and its greater now than back then. luv New Orleans,LA

  • Thank you, tamagoya429, and, of course, magnificent Curtis.

  • This is one of the top 10 songs of all times.

  • i need to say i love him.what a band. he was great.

  • nice conga beats

  • Great song, amazing Voice, there will only be one Curtis Mayfield! R.I.P...

  • Absolutly BRILLIANT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @trollesusanna - No doubt I love you for that comment!

  • Great song but it has been destroyed by the arrangement and not using REAL strings.

  • The 11 people who disliked this must have something seriously wrong with them. I listen to this record and just want to go out and do something positive with my life that helps others!

  • @kromed01 , or they might be 9 year olds or that sort of thing,

  • This jam is flawless in every aspect. Curtis was a one of a kind musician. R.I.P.

  • The Congero is going off! Play your heart out CUZ!

  • omg they replaced the horn section with a synth!? and... what a horrible synth...

God... the 80's: The decade of synth-rape that for some reason has become hip in later years... Sure, alot of good music is from the 80's and all that, but let's never forget the atrocities that were committed; it's disrespectful for the victims.

  • @OnkelMickwald

synths can sound great, don't be a hater just because they suck here

  • @LfunkeyA I don't hate synths! Synths are magnificent instruments in their own right, but when people go "Hmm I lack a horn/string section... But oh well, I can just replace them with my SYNTH!" something has gone wrong, and this happened way too often in the 80's

And I guess the fact that the otherwise flawless Curtis Mayfield made this mistake upset me even more. Hope you realize that my choice of words were made with a bit of irony though. Like, speaking of "atrocities" and "victims" etc...

  • @OnkelMickwald

    i see

  • @OnkelMickwald yeah interesting you say this prince once said he didnt like horns and crafted a whole sound using synthesizers inthe 80s but oh was it funky . But the horn sections of the 70s were the staple of its sound i agree with you the syth takes away from the song .

  • @mgalore Having one's comment in the top ranked ones is not as good as I wished:( Somewhere down in the comment fields I've explained what I think of synths more closely. Synths can be awesome and funky, especially in the hands of ppl such as Prince or MJ.

But synths can also make you wanna crawl under your bed crying and never wanna come out again...

  • @mgalore That may have been a misquote. To my understanding the lore is Prince cant PLAY horns, and hes damn good on every thing else, and that was the reason his sound was soo synth drivin in place of horns. Which would make sense to me, because the shine love and respect he has given to Eric Leeds for all these years he LOVES horns, he always lets Leeds get off, an goes crazy when he plays, check out any of the concert stuff, man don't drink the kool-Aid.

  • @mgalore to the kingofdaundaworld yes prince once said he didnt like horns that was prior to his horn styled music of the mid eighties and beyond . and i once saw prince playing what looked like a clarinet im sure he can play at least one horn instrument he plays 26 . But you know prince he embodies many styles and is very mercurial so what he now loves he mightve not liked before nevertheless hes a true master musical genius

  • @OnkelMickwald ou couldn't say it better - A SYNTH RAPE, I hate fuckin' 80s!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ffeda Touche, the reasons i hate 80's.

    Synth

    Reverb

    The beginning of over production

  • @ffeda Thankfully, it had real drums and NOT electric ones!

  • Comment removed

  • @OnkelMickwald At least they didn't synth-rape the congas

  • @OnkelMickwald I'm sure Curtis was feeling the same, but if you do a bit of research it was probably the record company that imposed the Synth package. 10 x cheaper than live horns. Basic Economics, but yes very sad.

  • @oatstao I don't see how a record company can have any power over deciding instruments for concerts unless the soundtrack is going to be released by the company. My theory think that it was either due to practical reasons, like maybe the original horn section was preoccupied and they couldn't find replacements in time or something similar, or that Curtis actually thought it worked! How horrible the last assumption may sound, it's not impossible. It happened to alot of good musicians in the 80's

  • @OnkelMickwald I totally agree. I was watching his Live At Montreux DVD, and was expecting to hear a booming horn section and all I got was a similar sounding, synthetic mosquito fart.

  • @OnkelMickwald

I think you're being a bit harsh. Keep in mind that this was the technology of the times, and that in that context it was pleasing to many. Would you say the same about classical music played on period instruments? If so, I strongly feel that you should only be listening to contemporary pop hits.

  • @emilia2009 Yeah I know but part of my comment is purposely exaggerated^^ I don't hate synthesizers in general, I do listen to alot of alphaville and the knife and daft punk etc. The thing is that synthesizers are very powerful, and they can do great evil if they're used "wrongly". I do know it's a matter of personal taste, but I think the synth here was just horrible, and that's really the only thing I said, while tryin to be funny.

  • @OnkelMickwald Thanks for responding. Here you're taking on the role of critic, which takes a fraction of the effort required to make artistic and performance decisions. If you were to go out, round up some musicians, rehearse, perform and record your interpretation of this song, I would listen to it with at least some interest, because it shows you care enough about the music to do something about it. Anyone can criticize, which is why your comment is so meaningless to me.

  • @emilia2009 This was just something I did while acting on impulse... I had noooo idea it would get so many thumbs up and I find that kinda scary, but still it's better to stand for what I said and explain it than deleting the comment. Of course I can't do what they do but I can still have opinions about this, and honestly you don't have to care about my stupid comment:) It is, as they say, a free world...

P.S. I have been playing some classical music in my days (french horn) if that helps... DS

  • @OnkelMickwald

Fair enough - just my two bits worth. Peace out.

  • @OnkelMickwald never interesting to hear what the hater has to say. sorry, but i think it's you who is being disrespectful...

  • @rebelmusic64 Read my other comments!:D I stand by my word, the synth is horrible, but I suppose they had practical reasons.

  • @OnkelMickwald please walk the walk and post a video of your last gig. it will give people a chance to critique your talents...even if you're better that this, never right to tear someone down.

  • @rebelmusic64 Oh I used to play the French Horn so yeah I've had criticism, but that doesn't really enter into it because 1) I'm entitled to an opinion 2) the only one I offended was the synth, and I don't think that it's very sad because of it. Besides, Curtis Mayfield is awesome

  • @rebelmusic64 Besides, when I wrote that comment I thought I was "safe" because I used much sarcastic exaggerations. My rant about the "crimes" of the 80's shouldn't be taken 100% seriously. When I heard the synth in this vid the first time I didn't rage, I more... Giggled because it's such a stereotypical sloppy 80's synth.

  • @OnkelMickwald okay then, if you say so. sorry i misunderstood your self proclaimed "rant" as something negative. i'll try to read your mind next time................................................

  • @rebelmusic64 Oh I don't expect you to read my mind. That's why I explained it to you now. Besides, I've thought of removing the post several times. Not because I think it's offensive, but beause this is internet, and things are always taken too seriously on the internet.

  • I miss this man.

    immensly

  • you can tell this is earlier, less political Mayfield. There is no blacks in the crowd. As he became more popular in music, he realized it was also a time for him to voice for his people changin his lyrical content from just uplifting spirits but by pick up spirits too

  • @sudam666 I think some of his best and most political songs- We're a Winner, Keep on Pushing, We're Rollin On etc were written before this

  • whata fuckin song, if only mo niggas made music like this
