he's right. you cant see the shadow of the bat as soon as it leaves his hands, but right when it comes back you can see the shadow agian. and im pretty sure that the bat shadow doesnt take up the entire shadow of the guy. so you would at least be able to see a little bit of the shadow, its very fake!

The trick is that JUST before releasing the bat, he pulls back with his left hand. The reversal stops the forward momentum of the bat while increasing the spin. I don't think it stands a chance at improving his batting average, but it would probably sufficiently distract the catcher that he might miss a foul ball or commit some other error.
