looks amazing...because it has Beef as the meat it would be classed as cottage pie over here in the England, if it was Lamb it would be shepherds pie ( sheep herders pie ).....
hey watabunchaplonkas, between the coyotes, red tail hawks, raccoons, fox, feral cats and our meat eating neighbors those city rats don't have a chance around these parts. They're extinct! Thanks for your concern none the less! lol -BBQ Pit Boys
hey sanwamble, our preference for ground beef is to use the meat from the chuck for a richer beef flavor. But in this meat pie substituting 90% lean would not be detrimental! -BBQ Pit Boys
i'd say eat up, but exercise and don't "eat up" *too often*. "Eat up" like once a week or something. moderation is the key.. that way u can still enjoy stuff and still hopefully live long enough to accomplish what u wanna do in life.
the stock kind of rounds out the beef flavor and when they made the gravy it all kind of went full circle. You could probably pull it off if you add another glove of garlic and use a medium/heavy beer, I use labatt
OMG BAACOONN! that's 4 servings? haha! oh, i admit.when i am camping, i am all about rib-stickin' food and lots of it...i wish i could be a vegan, but the first sniff of bbq and i am so gone. sigh. i am sooo weak!!
you can crumble a beef stock cube into the mince too, for extra beefiness. in the UK this dish is called cottage pie, if you make it with lamb or mutton instead of beef, it's called a shepard's pie.
i love seeing how people cook on open flame. i have not used my weber to cook in a skillet or pan yet, but it looks cool. there are recipes for cake on a grill/fire too, believe it or not.
Who would have thought you could make Shepherds Pie on the bbq? Excellent ! My daughters favourite dish in all the land is Shepherds Pie. Chi miigwetch Barbeque Boys as always.
MMMMMMMM GOOOD! Thumbs up, True BBQ Man even in the snow...., problem is the more i watch these videos the more i want to fire up the grill, 2:17am now , slightly raining and about 42 degrees f but i think im going to fire up that grill! Will try this for tomorrows dinner
I just finished some beer steamed brats hot off the grill, thought I was "Full", and watched this excellent video... Time to fire it up again! 5 stars!
MAN-O-Man that looks mighty fine! Your videos are getting better all the time, Professional quality 4 sure, Shepards pie is one of my favs, gotto try it on the grill 2. how much charcoal did ya use on this one? did one load do it?

Cool!!
I noticed you used a 80/20 lean-fat ration for the beef. You then proceeded to discard a majority of the liberated fat..
I was wondering if that particular process could be eliminated by using a lower fat ratio?
I know a majority of the beef flavor is derived from the fat but then eventually using beef stew would replace that loss of flavor.
I just don't want to dig fat out!! Let me know!
