When we were kids back about 72 my bro. Greg, And best friends Tom and Barry and myself would get home from school, and after supper we would go a block away to the bank of the Hillsbro river in Tampa and for 2 or three hrs. listen to the Outlaws pratice, every night. At that time they used to have a red white and blue school bus with an A.C. on the top they used as a band bus. I could go on about Seeing and listening to them for hours but I won't. Alot of found memories.
A quick, funny and nice story. I was 18 helping my Dad wax his big Caddy in the driveway, my doors and trunk to my car open and Stick Around for R/R was cranked on my car stereo. When the song ended my Dad commented, "Boy, that song can really make you scrub on a car!!!". I didn't know my Mom was sitting on the porch, she replied with, "I think that was GREAT!!". Man, when your parents are diggin Outlaws riffs you KNOW they're great!...hope you enjoyed...and thanks Outlaws.....
I'm so thankful for the ability to see these guys play together any time I want. They, in my opinion where the best pair playing together ever..... Rosington / Collins a very close 2nd. But Hughie and Billy Every song they gave it all.
Saw this band more than any other live act , back in my concert days of the 70s and early 80s, and they were one of the best. The music, the lyrics, and the act, were top class. Back before MADD came on the scene and pressured the laws to eliminate any road partying, these guys were usually plugged into my car stereo, and CRANKED UP !!! God rest your souls, Hughie T., Billy J., and Frank O'.
After falling in love with them after seeing them blow away Boston in 1977, The Outlaws became my favorite bad. I was fortunate to see them many times, and their blend of great drum/bass core, the distinct guitars styles of Billy and Hughie, and the great harmonies, has never been equaled. Way underrated in my opinion. LS got the raves, but they didn't have Hughie and Billy...God bless them always.
words can never descrbe the talent these 2 guys brought to rock...I agree ...probably the most beautiful, progressive, melodic, funky, fat, rockin guitar sound ever......
Billy Jones was just fantastic! Played with such feeling. Had the pleasure of seeing them play many times in the late 70's. Always looked forward to Billy's solo on Prisoner. Awesome!!
I wa sin Asbury in '76 too. We were out front (Back, beachside) getting prepped. The band was out on their balcony doing the same, we just saifd hey. That ws a rockin show. I captain a lot of sprot teams, softball, darts and now ice hockey and we are always the Outlaws, always!
Agree with both you guys, saw Grinder Switch, Outlaws, MTB in 76' at Casino Arena in Asbury Park NJ. Outlaws devastated the crowd and I think we all wondered how MTB was going to follow that. They only had the songs from the first album and you know how incredible that is. I also love(d) Toy C as a guitarist. I am lucky to have seen the Outlaws over 25 times since 76', and about 6 times in these last few years since they returned to touring. I miss both Hughie and Billy they were special.
Hughie Thomasson and Billy Jones were in my humble opinion two of the greatest guitarists of all time. Their beautiful and powerful guitar harmonies always move me so much, and lately when I listen to them, move me sometimes to tears, now that they`re both gone forever. I am lucky to have seen them live several times. God rest your souls,Hughie and Billy.
Completely agree Wallachinski - saw them too, they opened for the Marshall Tucker band and I'm the biggest Toy Caldwell fan around - that night, the Outlaws were better! - MLC
so sorry i hadnt found this one sooner....i am 55 y.o. and i still listen to 'bring em back alive'. "Holiday" on that recording has been the track that defines who the Outlaws are to me...dang i wish i had an HT and BJ screensaver...ladies and gentlemen wont you please welcome the florida guitar army the Outlaws...i only got to see them twice 1- 1978 a cornfiled out by Buckeye lake in OH and 2- 1980 an arena on the U of COLO campus...both times feelin fine on 714 cuz of freddie...
Skynard is awesome. But I'd put the Outlaws Bring it Back Alive album up against One More From The Road. As a volume of work though, you have to give the nod to LS.
one of their best songs and they had so many! i saw them many times over the years and they always amazed me...i wish there was a video of billy jones playing prisoner, God Bless Hughie, Billy and Frank Okeefe, their music will live on!
These guys were the sack. When rock and roll was just that, not the pussy whipped lip sinking techno crap that passes for entertainment today. A lost era of excellence.
I thank the lord , that I was born with ears , if there is a devil , the 70s / 80s took my soul and made me appreciate what he invented the guitar for , when he gave THE OUTLAWS to the world, therefor I guess I,m doomed , but what a way to go, at least now being 50 , and still listening to this awsome band , makes me still feel alive.
I saw this tour back in 77...at the old RKO in Davenport IA...I'd forgotten how great they were...I've seen a lot of big acts since those days, but for the dollar they couldn't be beat....
Thanks for posting these vids, i used to watch them play when I was 19 In north tampa. wow, like is really short......30 some years already.what a damn shame to lose these guys.
you can always save a bit at a time. may take a while, but you can do it. this brings back so many memories. i think i may sit here all night and listen to this...
Heck yeah, well, I do have a check coming from a class action lawsuit of my former job so hopefully child support doesn't take it all I'll have some money left over to start my kit hahaha
I highly doubt it, if bands came back with the same styles, everyone would compare them to the originals and immediately slant them as "wannabes" or that they could never compare to the likes of these guys. Its a sad but true state of affairs, i know for a fact that if it did happen, i'd also make comparisons
So I guess we're stuck with the sampled rap shyt or lame power chord stuff we have nowadays. ugh. At least there's tom morello for some semi original stuff on guitar
I know what you mean. It took me months with my guitar instructor to figure out the various parts and it was such a rush playing the parts I could learn. Incredible fun!
I am going crazy trying to open this vidio probebly there best song saw them around 30 times no one better live billy&hughie were the best no one could shine a light to them
this version is quite close to the 'bring it back alive' one.Same effects on hughies guitar.Recorded same tour? Blazing saddles? All I know is that this was the best line-up for the band.Billys guitar work on the live album was unbelievable.I saw them around this time at the cape cod coliseum.Twice!I think the live album captures this period well.Does anyone have video of 'Prisoner'? or 'Blues Water'?Thanks to all posters for remembering how special this band really is.Nobody wailed like them.
Billy left in the early 80's...wasn't clear whether it was stylistic or substance. Had other gigs for a while...too bad he checked out at his own hand - he was a talented player.
Man, they just don't have bands that can cook like this anymore. It must come from playing in clubs for years before getting a record contract unlike today's posuer boys who get a contract three weeks after they pick up their instruments and get on the cover of the Rolling Stone. I saw them four times in the 70s twice with lynyrd skynryd once by them selves and once with 38 special.I swear to god you could see smoke coming off the frets, eeeha
I would have to say that back when this was recorded or maybe a year before this if you could have seen this band with Lynyrd Skynyrd you saw the best. I saw these guys and all of the originals several times. They weren't for the weak, they could flat out rock your world!
cuz every little sound matters - it's like saying you didn't need garfunkle cuz simon could sing everything himself but the two of them together were better - same here - twin leads are wonderful but you need the extra "fill" to get the whole sound.
check out the 1977 version of GGHT vs the one from their last (uber-sighs) tour and even tho the leads are great the sound is STILL a bit thin... (IMnsHO anyway)

great video. the rock n roll guitar army always rules. Too bad some other bands don't use a Gibson lead guitar "AND" a Fender lead guitar. The sound always gives me goose bumps..
Just incredible. I was just tooling around this afternoon and found it. I agree with all the comments below so I don't have to repeat any of them. Just the most incredible memory trip for me. Thanks and may God bless you!
Thanks Damulder!! This is what guitars should sound like! Loved the Outlaws from the first time I heard them, saw them about 8 times and these videos take me right back there! RIP Billy, you are still are the greatest in my book!
Yea! love them boys.........never seen them on video, saw them in a very small club in the late 80's or early 90's but it was just Hughie and some excellent hired guns..Thanks for the vid.....
I used to see these cats play half dozen times a year during this time-frame. They were my favorite band. I'm amazed that there is so little written about these guys and you can't find video/audio of their shows.
Yeeeeeaaah/ the outlaws live-album was always one of my favourits and now I can SEE Hughie and Billy and the rest of the Outlaws play alive/What great song/ great gitar solo's/ I'm very happy/ damulder rules !thanks- Tjappie
The title says it all: the greatest rock´n´roll band of all time! The guitar rock at the very finest, coloured harmonies, tasteful playing. Thanks, Billy. RIP.

The Florida Guitar Army knocked one out of the park with this tune. I love it!
Here's something, though...anyone else notice the irony in how country-esque the guitar solos are on a song with "rock and roll" in the title?
At least in the first half. But Freddie and Hughie bring the rock and seriously tear it up in the second half of the tune.
Great, great stuff. I cut my teeth on this tune when I was younger and it still inspires me.

I used to see these cats play half dozen times a year during this time-frame. They were my favorite band. I'm amazed that there is so little written about these guys and you can't find video/audio of their shows.

Nice one damulder. Keep 'em comin'. Always loved HT's first guitar break on this track. Their use of twin guitars is awesome. RIP BJ. A sad loss.

The title says it all: the greatest rock´n´roll band of all time! The guitar rock at the very finest, coloured harmonies, tasteful playing. Thanks, Billy. RIP.
