Actually, one small point. The snap-strap that you snapped behind the sheath is designed to snap around the handle when the knife is open and inserted in the straight knife sheath. I like to have mine like that and put an old Gerber Multi-Plier in the front pouch. Still leaves room for a very small sharpener... Good review, Keep it up.
the sheath is a tesstament to how frustating it is to pull out that klonky thing and use both hands to deploy the blade . it reunits the weaknesses and flaws of fix and folder knifes you can see its really old back in the days where pepole were only suprised by jack knifes the idea of paying 150$ for a plastic handle and 440 c blade is completly ridiculous but i like the vid its well made review
Great video. Very nice review. When the knife is carried fixed blade style with the back folded up you can use the strap to put around the handle as a keeper.
There is 'something' with old Gerber i love a lot, even more when they are used. May i suggest you to find a 'Patriot' model, same period and also great collectible. Thanks for sharing.
what about the material? I hear from different people, that today stuff is crafted from iron material made from melted scrap (old) iron, not from an iron ore. I have a hand forged 1893 knife. The new products (knife blades) are maybe worse. or not?
Nice review of an american made knife. I like videos of vintage knives that are sometimes hard to find. I have a Parabellum also. My sheath is in pretty worn shape though. Yours looks great.
I had mine since the 80's, but then lost it in a rental car in 2006. I discovered it was missing. I went back there 15 minutes later and my Parabellum was long gone! I still have my Gerber BMF, and since purchased a LMF II and Prodigy. I liked the Parabellum the best.
the version you have is the early model, the ones that came with that sheath were done in 440C, later models had a sheath that only held it closed and they switched to ther softer 440A for the blade steel...great video
thanks for the ViD I was just looking at it, thinking of buying it the way things are going will need a very good knife. Some thing that will last a long time.
When you talk about the handle you mentionned plastic (very strong). Do you think it would take a hit at 25 below zero? I never use or choose any plastics for my knives. I fear it would break on me at the worse possible moment. Even went I carry a knife with a metal liner (in a plastic handle) (I think I have 3 or 4 of those) I like to have a spare one with me.
Really nice knife. It is not as tacticool as they make knives now, but this design is probably 20 years old. Also the snapped strap in the back will wrap around the knife
to the front to secure it when the blade is locked open, with the sheath extended position or in the folded config. Be safe! John
I',m glad that knife says Portland, OR on it, I was really displeased with Gerber when they moved their production to a muslim country. They use to be great American made products, but what Gerber is putting out now, is just foreign made trash. I had bought two Gerber, "stan" made knives and they didn't last long at all.
That handle looks really uncomfortable to hold and carry, 6 oz. seems like a little much when I could just carry my Ontario Rat1 (approx. 4 oz.). Not to mention gerber doesn't use very good mystery steel. It doesn't seem like deployment would be very time efficient either.
overrated, overpriced POS...sorry.I carry and use knives like a lot of these kids carry cell-phones.This one never even leaves the drawer. The blade pattern is a compromise, which is not ideal for any given circumstance I've found, short of cutting rope or something. The handle gets slick as owl snot when bloodied and that huge bolster just snags on everything and gets in the way of handling the knife properly.
FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN! haha you crack me up, Sootch! Great review, haven't heard about this knife in ages! Good to see you got a classic! Keep up the awesome vid's man, always a pleasure to hear your insight and message.
Gerber has gone down the crapper in the last 10 years. I don't like the mystery steel that they use and I have a hard time believing that they actually use S30V on some of their higher end knives since they refuse to tell us what they use on their lower end knives.
I just feel that if you can't be straight up with the low end how can I trust you with the high end when you start bragging?
Wouldn't really consider that a tactical knife. Since it doesn't have any way to deploy fast and it doesn't have much traction on the handle. Great review Sootch, keep em' coming.
Wow this is the first video brought to my attention about this knife. I bought mine years ago and my friends were telling me that it was an ugly knife. I never used my knife and got it for 60 bucks or so. Glad to see someone has one and reviewing it also.. Nice good job.
Hey sootch, I just bought a beautiful knife and I definitely recommend it. It might not be up to par with the class of knives you own. But it is a great pick up and I got it at a great price.
The knives are: Taylor Brand Editions 10-13. Id love to see your review on them.
@Minrow56 para meaning to prepair or get ready and bellum meaning war or battle. For is a translatoin thing for english so it will sound right in english. while there is a four in latin there is not for.
I always find gerber handles to be to bulky! O Yuh Sootch thanks for the heads up went down to my local walmart and picked me up a kershaw skyline $34.99 no clearance.

Very cool. An improved version of it would have to have a thumbstud for fast opening: then it would be perfect. I just love the sheath.
I guess that now a days such a knife would be way to expensive.

I wouldn't personally consider this knife for any purpose because it doesn't seem easy to open with one hand. Looks good otherwise though.
