These guys at Motorweek can't drive for shit. The ZO6 gets to 60 in less then 3.5(3.4 to be exact) and covers the 1/4 in 11.4 @127.1 mph. I've seen the car tested to 60 in as low as 3.2 seconds and covering the 1/4 in 11.2 @ 131mph.
Get real jaggoff, magazines and shows like motorweek test cars as a normal person would. GM's PR wankers always tell them to POWERSHIFT (ie. shift without lifting the throttle) the Corvette to get the best time, but of course this tears the transmission up and no normal person is going to do that to their $50k+ car, so most testers don't do that.

The last vette to have what you're thinking of was the c4 vette. The C5 has a transverse leafspring which had no affect on the rear tires at all, it was just there to help with body roll in the turns.
The C6 gen no leafsprings whatsover, and the Z06 and ZR1 have the same springs and dampers that you'll find in Ferrari's, Porsche's etc...
They're non-adjustable and expensive to replace, which is why most track enthusiasts remove them in favor of a coil-over conversion setup ($2k).
The fact is, no other high-performance car uses them and one hallmark of the Corvette (compared to other cars) is that it's high-speed handling can be described as "skittish" to "scary".
@Pube83 Any car with over 600hp is going to be skiddish and scary. I have read reviews about the ZR1 and it was praised for having a very compliant ride. Nobody is taking out the MRS or leafspring in favor of anything.
READ some reviews. The Z06 is skittish compared to F430's, Gallardo's and even the Ford GT. It has to do with the shit suspension and having a super high performance street car with a front mounted engine.

i kno the Z51/GrandSport have leafs, i'm not sure about the ZO6, but the ZR1 does not have leafs, it has magnetic ride suspension (the same as a ferrari 599)
ALL C6 models still use transverse composite leaf springs in conjunction with standard dampers. The magnetic suspension is just the dampers, not the (leaf) springs.
GM and it's fanboys can say what they want about how good or non-detrimental leaf springs are, but the fact is no other sports car uses them. GM doesn't use them on the C6R race models and enthusiasts serious about track days buy a coil-over conversion set ($2k) and removes the leaf springs.

@pens71malkin All Vettes have A leaf spring. The MRS on the GS/Base/ZR1 takes place of a coil over set up. The 2011 has an option of getting the MRS which is something new for the ZO6 and is part of the ZO7 option that debuted on the Carbon Edition.

Acceleration times.. GTR 0-100 km 3.5 seconds 0-160 km 7.8 seconds 0-200 km 12.4 seconds 0-300 km 53.3 seconds ZR1 0-100 km 3.4 seconds 0-160 km 6.9 seconds 0-200 km 10.3 seconds 0-300 km 32.6 seconds And that is a MASSIVE difference.

Thats odd considering that the leaf is lighter and has less weight that coils. The leaf also has a lower center of gravity and functions as an anti-roll bar which further reduces weight.

Its funny that you dont know the difference between truck springs (two steel parallel leaf son soild rear axle) and the corvette spring (single transverse composite leaf attached to A-Arms).
The C5-R uses coils because you can easily change spring rates with coils.. and this cannot be done with the leaf.
Oddly enough you fail to point out how exactly raising the center of gravity and adding weight is going to have a positive effect on handling.

The leaf does the exact same job as a coil spring.. there is no difference in the job they do. So it makes absolutely no sense to add less expensive coils which will add weight and raise the center of gravity. I believe the corvettes handling is a testiment to the effectiveness of properly designed leafs.
Actually , when coilover kits are installed on corvettes, they handle better, further proving coils clear dominence over leafs, that only a FANBOY would defend.
All of automotive racing, stock and modded is a testiment to the effectiveness of a properly designed coil.
What is your proof of that? It does not take a kit in order to install coils on the corvette.. they are in fact already designed to accept coils if they are going to be used a race car.
On the production model.. the leaf has its obvious advantages but your claim that they handle better with coils is nothing but fallacy. Coils only advantage is being able to be adjusted to suit various track conditions. 95% of the time the leaf results in better handling.

I'm sure the new Ferrari 458 Italia will also pass the ZR1's performance envelope, considering the non-Scuderia F430 rips to 60mph in 3.5sec and trips the quarter in 11.7@120mph w/483hp/343tq/8500rpm/6spd auto clutch man @ 3,150lbs.
The 458 Italia is all new, not a rework like the F430 was of the 360 Modena.

The last vette to have what you're thinking of was the c4 vette. The C5 has a transverse leafspring which had no affect on the rear tires at all, it was just there to help with body roll in the turns.
The C6 gen no leafsprings whatsover, and the Z06 and ZR1 have the same springs and dampers that you'll find in Ferrari's, Porsche's etc...

They're non-adjustable and expensive to replace, which is why most track enthusiasts remove them in favor of a coil-over conversion setup ($2k).
The fact is, no other high-performance car uses them and one hallmark of the Corvette (compared to other cars) is that it's high-speed handling can be described as "skittish" to "scary".

READ some reviews. The Z06 is skittish compared to F430's, Gallardo's and even the Ford GT. It has to do with the shit suspension and having a super high performance street car with a front mounted engine.

ALL C6 models still use transverse composite leaf springs in conjunction with standard dampers. The magnetic suspension is just the dampers, not the (leaf) springs.
GM and it's fanboys can say what they want about how good or non-detrimental leaf springs are, but the fact is no other sports car uses them. GM doesn't use them on the C6R race models and enthusiasts serious about track days buy a coil-over conversion set ($2k) and removes the leaf springs.

@pens71malkin All Vettes have A leaf spring. The MRS on the GS/Base/ZR1 takes place of a coil over set up. The 2011 has an option of getting the MRS which is something new for the ZO6 and is part of the ZO7 option that debuted on the Carbon Edition.

Not really, tons of cars are faster than the Cobalt SS, + nobody makes parts for it, so nobody wants it, proven by the Sales Numbers.
ZR1, not fastest at all, numbers prove that also.
CTSV slower than than the Audi RS4 B7 and the Porsche Panamera Turbo, BOTH, proven by the Numbers.
MPG, acatually NO AGAIN, the C5zo6 does alright, but many owners Despute that 20+ mpg, saying theirs does anywhere from 13-16mpg.
ZR1 and CTSV are not that great aswell.
So why all the BS, Nobody is jealous.

Yes really. Cobalt SS is faster than any of it it's class mates. Not to mention around a track. C&D's 2008 lighting lap at Virginia International Raceway the Cobalt SS beat Lexus IS-F, BMW135i, Lotus Elise SC, Volkswagen R32, Honda Civic Si Mugen & a hoast of others, & did it cheaper..wait kinda of like the ZR1 does! :-o So u are way off about that one man. Plus they can run sub 14.0 with the right conditions, & there are parts so who cares if there is 80 after market tuners or not.

The c5 z06v got good gas mileage 25+mpg on a internet show where he drafted, coasted down hills, etc.
In the real world, owners say NO, it doesn't do that good at all, SAYS THE OWNERS.
C6 zo6 owner SAID, yeah i get about 13-16 mpg, OWNER SAID.
That 10k spent on the GTR still costs less than the full price of the Zr1, and with people only HALFASS tuning the parts they buy, this isn't over by along shot.

That RS4 driven by Frank Stippler was ran with P Zero Corsa. Just in case you don't know what that is, it's a competition tire that is DOT legal.
As for 30MPG, if you can't get 30MPG out of a lightweight, aerodynamic car with ridiculously tall overdrive 6th gear then you shouldn't be driving
you should also google for z06 and marathon and let me know what you get as a result

No.. it doesnt run nearly the exact same times. Over the course of a race the GTR would effectively be lapped by the ZR1. It takes the GTR 25 seconds longer to accelerate to 186mph than the ZR1.. and thats a hell of a long time.

Thats odd considering that the leaf is lighter and has less weight that coils. The leaf also has a lower center of gravity and functions as an anti-roll bar which further reduces weight.

The C5-R uses coils because you can easily change spring rates with coils.. and this cannot be done with the leaf.
Oddly enough you fail to point out how exactly raising the center of gravity and adding weight is going to have a positive effect on handling.

Simple, because the benefits of coil far outway the slightly higher center of gravity by the coils, that BTW, you have not proved actually happens.

How is adding more weight and rasing the center of gravity to do the exact same job going to improve the handling?
The leaf does the exact same job as a coil spring.. there is no difference in the job they do. So it makes absolutely no sense to add less expensive coils which will add weight and raise the center of gravity. I believe the corvettes handling is a testiment to the effectiveness of properly designed leafs.

Actually , when coilover kits are installed on corvettes, they handle better, further proving coils clear dominence over leafs, that only a FANBOY would defend.
All of automotive racing, stock and modded is a testiment to the effectiveness of a properly designed coil.

What is your proof of that? It does not take a kit in order to install coils on the corvette.. they are in fact already designed to accept coils if they are going to be used a race car.
On the production model.. the leaf has its obvious advantages but your claim that they handle better with coils is nothing but fallacy. Coils only advantage is being able to be adjusted to suit various track conditions. 95% of the time the leaf results in better handling.

who ever drives on a skidpad and le mans has so many restrictions it favours the mighty vette and aston...u put the zr1 on a real winding road that we actually drive on in the DRY and it wont get close to a gtr or gt3...it cant put its power down..thats why it cant win tarmac events...the GTR has won the last 2 majors in aus and win plenty more...the vettes dont see top 20 behind even evo's and sti's!!! so stick 2 drag racing cos there good at that..

So you are saying that all japanese imports are nice cars? How about Mitsubishi.. which deservingly has one of the lowest resale values out there and are plagued with problems.
In general japanese sports cars and supercars are terribly underpowered. Their sedans have outstanding power for thier class.. but their sports cars leave much to be desired in high end acceleration.
