I'm afraid that this documentary, though accurate, is quite a superficial explanation to the more compex details that happened between Henry and his wives and courtiers and the "red tape" with the Catholic Church. This documentary is good for people who are being exposed to Henry for the first time, but for persons who have studied him in depth, there is a lot being glossed over. Still interesting though. :)
Alison Weir is a genius UK historian. It's questionable about Anne Boleyn being a virgin. Also, she was in love and engaged with another man, when Henry turned his attention to her. In the beginning, she was opposed to a relationship with Henry. It was only after she contemplated how powerful she would be, she returned affection. She was shrewd and knew that if she witheld sex, she could keep him interested until the divorce.
1:58 Sigh. It is because of these two fools that there are a few bass-ackwards laws in the UK still in effect: the King is still Defender of the Faith, Catholics are barred from higher positions in HRH service, and Catholics cannot marry any of the Royal Family (even if the actual chance of answering to Rome is very, very VERY tiny, as the Pope is a little old man.)
When did England go from Paganism to Christianity?
