@FreakPower70 he's an intellectual. He's using valid points and history to validate his arguments. The Republican simply just can't handle the arguments.
@ccheng21 The monarchist guy sounds more "powerful" because he is a fanatic. His life and his entire identity is built around being the Queen's slave. He explodes with powerful passion at the idea that his beloved queen is being challenged. An Al Qaeeda guy defending the Quran and Islamic theocracy speaks the same way. This is the advantage fanatics and extremists have over ordinary, sensible people.
Same government structure, meaning House of Commons, the Senate, and of course a Canadian Head of State, voted in by Canadians!
The head of state roll would not change with the exception elctoral victory, and not answering to a Foreigner, yes we Canadians have a brain and WILL answer for ourselves.
See you at the polls! (hopefully sooner rather than later)
@SWOMARK Hear, hear. I think we should keep the GG in a republic, with the office holding the reserve powers as it does now. The only thing that should change is the quaint fiction that it represents some person in another country. It should be ours, and ours alone.
I don't think Gary's strictly right to say "Canada was that part of North America that did not want to become a republic". Certainly sentiment for the monarchy was part of it. But does he really expect us to believe that's why the French of Quebec rejected the American Revolution? Largely, they sided with the British because of the Quebec Act and because their bishops sided with the British who had secured their privileges. Nova Scotians actually sent G. Washington a letter asking for troops!
Tom's got a great point, I have to admit, when he evokes the Rebellions of 1837. It was republicans who stirred the pot and got the Durham Report with its recommendation for responsible government as a result. If those sentiments hadn't been brought to the point of arms, I have a hard time believing Westminster would have gratuitously taken it upon itself to disestablish the Family Compact and the Chateau Clique. It's true; 19th century republicans made that happen.
The monarchist is a bully...

So Canada's only identity is vis-a-vis the United States?
Give me a fucking break, Gary.
