I had a nasty overbite and no chin at all and my mouth was too crowded for all my teeth. Both jaws broken+Chin implants and I could swear they gave me a nose job.
Do you have any numbness at all from your surgery? Cause I do and I had it done in January of 2010.
OH Boy. You should of seen my face. IT was blown up like a basketball after the surgery. I recall having the doctor get on top of me and place wires in my jaw while awake, without any local anesthesia. IT turned out quite great in the end. Now i'm in school for Maxiofacial surgery.
Good to know it won't make anything worse at least. Oooh, and one other thing if you got time. How does it feel eating and washing the inside of your mouth during the phase when your jaw is banded together? I just had 4 wisdom teeth extracted a few days ago and I haven't been able to brush or rinse properly due to risk of opening the wounds, and eating has been tricky. I can imagine it being much more gruesome and tedious with a wound from jaw surgery. >.<
I have to get this done when I turn 14. Fun. :( ! I heard that that they have to pull your wisdom teeth, and then after surgey you have to go back and get your screw and plates removed. I really dont want to do this
hi, im 17 and i have jaw surgery next month and i am so scared =( the inside of my mouth is way too narrow and its uncomfortable for my tonge, i have an over bite/buck teeth, and the top of my back teeth go inward...its just all bad.
but anyways, my mom says they will wire me shut wen im finished. is that true?? were you wired shut?? and how bad did it hurt?? were you sore??
@MrsDardenxoxo I was not wired shut, just rubberbanded together tight for 2 days, but it's not as bad as it sounds considering you're pretty much unconscious (: haha
lol the old pen and paper. Nothing like trying to write down your provisions when you're high on morphine and laying down and can't see what you're writing.
question why did u have to get surgery what was wrong with it cause i have been havin some problems with my jaw and i dont know if its bad to the point were i have to get surgery and i wanna know if some of your symthoms follow mine plz answer back
@wolfgang29 i just had it, felt fine really, just a bit groggy and swollen, you wont want to move much and just pretty much sit there as a bit dizzy, my arms really hurt after it stretching them out.
@PeTeRGuitar2010 i had the same surgery and mines was a little over 5 hours. liquid diet . no pain so many medications. talk after 3-4months once joints are connected.
hey there! im getting jaw surgery wednsday?? any advise for me? lol recovery looks rough and im scared to death! lol were u in pain when u were laying in bed with all that stuff around your head? looks like its hella painful!
why were your eyes so swollen?? ive been contemplating this surgery for about 9-10 years now ...but seeing this... it looks scary, beyond scary!! how come so much swelling?? did you throw up blood when you work up from surgery- thats anther horror story i heard :'(
no way, it wasn't bad at all. Looks bad, but it's just swelling, it goes down in about a week. I'm great now, almost been a year. But yep yep it's nothing to fret about. No throwing up blood, ha, not at all.
How long was it after before you could talk or eat solids? How come you eyes were swolen, could you see at all? If not how long did it take? Just wondering because I might have to have this done if braces don't work. Im probabily gonna refuse. I cant go through this. Just cant.
It's great to see the surgery went well for you! I'm having my lower jaw moved forward sometime this April but i'm terrified. I wasn't really thinking when I said I wanted to go ahead with it.
Could I just ask how you like the visual difference with your jaw and your profile? I'm scared that my face is going to look radically different and if that's the case I don't want to get this done. Thanks :)
Wow, I had this surgery done back in '01 at Baylor Medical in Dallas too. My doctor was Dr. Wolford...I had upper and lower jaw surgery and my TMJoints replaced too. I have never regained all the feeling in my lower lip and chin...but am very happy with the results. It's an intense surgery but so worth the pain! I wish I had video taped my recovery and progress...Glad to hear you regained all the feeling back in your face.
I'm going to my last Dentist appointment on the 23'rd Before im headed to the Orthodontist... I have an Anterior open bite, And my dentist told me i may require Lower jaw surgery because i do also have a minor underbite "My dad had one too" But it's barely noticeable, But what's noticeable is my Anterior Open bite... we will see what my Orthodontist will say... But i just want to say your videos are inspiring to me and to many others who May go through this! Thanks so much, I'm 17
Surgery isn't always necessary. Sometimes patients will get elastic bands to shift the jaw...permitting it is only a small difference. I had this surgery done too, one day before you. It looks a lot worse than it really is.
wow this is intense! my surgery is on friday, I was scared at first that they were going to move my upper jaw 13 mm but now that you told me they moved your upper jaw an inch up that's very comforting! hope everything goes well for you.
Thanks man! Appreciate the info. Good luck with yours and I know it'll go well. Keep me updated and subscribe to my vids i plan on uploading another in month or so.
Tell him not to worry, it's tough but you'll make it just fine. I had upper jaw moved forward about an inch and my cheek bones moved forward and my lower jaw tipped up. First 5-6 days are totally terrible, but after that it's GREAT! Thanks and hope all goes well!! God Bless.
Surgery went well, I'm just dying to get back running again! I agree, the first week is the worst. For me, I couldn't close my lips I was so swollen. My eyes at the hospital were a bit closed because of the swelling too.
I looked exactly like you in this video, but more ice packs on the sides of my face, and I looked kinda like that for about a week.
I had my top jaw moved about 1 inch forward, my bottom jaw tipped up and fit into place and cheek bones moved forward. I had my surgery at Baylor in Dallas, Texas. Let your daughter know, the first 5 days are very unpleasant, but to hold on because today is 6 days from when i had it and i feel wonderful except for the whole can't eat solids, and head feels huge. I hope everything goes fantastic! PLEASE subscribe to my videos because I'll be uploading new ones for the jaw surgery soon! Thanks!

Probably a dumb question, but do you have to refrain from laughing? I can imagine it being not all too comfortable during the first weeks. :/
ThePieIsLie 9 months ago
@ThePieIsLie Sort of. I mean laughing hurt for about the first 2 weeks but it's a good way to loosen up your jaws.

@grace123p I just had the surgery, you don't have to go back to get them removed. The bone grows over them because it's titanium :)

@MegYourWHAT Yep, no need to go back for surgery after it's already done(:

is surgery always necessary, can braces alone fix underbite?
acebunny17 3 years ago
Not in my case or in cases i've heard. Because the underbite is a problem with the jaw, not teeth.
