all I heard was it was an Irish American funeral song... funny, in a songbook included with a Casio keyboard I purchased.. was this song... I love it.. it has such feeling.. eh? eh? Eh? lol
i think you did such a great job! how could you possibly think you were appalling! LOL! gees! you sound great because you made it your own and it doens't sound as plain jane as so many other covers of the song! awesome job!
Wow, what a beautiful rendition....and what a beautiful guitar, Pete. Not sure on where the lyrics are from., I believe my dad knows something about it tho.... ;)
While listening to this wonderful performance, I was wondering: would you be able to cover Pink Floyd's Coming Back to Life intro? I bet it'd be brilliant with that very same guitar, my friend... Think about it, Pete:)
Cheers, I appreciate that. The guitar is a Gibson es175, I'm playing it through a Laney lc30 tube amp that is mic-ed to a Marshall AS50D accoustic amp with the reverb set to 7 and then that amp is connected to the PC. Probably too much reverb because it's a very hard room and as the Laney is mic-ed it's probably having an effect. Thanks again.
i've heard this song probably more 1000 times and never have i heard it like this, get the words in my friend, maybe a female singer with a strong Irish accent and you ll blow our socks off all the way to the bonny land of Ireland, BRILLIANT
Ha! Apparently this song is "over-requested" to session players here in the states. In the middle of a traditional session tune, someone invariably yells "Do Danny Boy! Then the argument ensues about it not being Irish but rather English and then it starts! The bashing begins, I guess! I saw an article about this on the internet, so it must be true! :-)
Now then. Funny thing about Danny Boy is the music is 'A Londonderry Air' but the lyrics were written by an Englishman who actually never visited Ireland.
I agree. I'm from Northern Ireland (where its kinda an unoffical national anthem.) Its about a guy who left home. Also the tune is actually called 'A Londonderry Air'.
Pete, it`s a tasty little rendition my friend..

Appalling? I think not! Very nice arrangement! (I heard this song was "unoffically" banned in New York by traditionalists during St. Patricks day)

Thanks John. Banned? for what possible reason.

Oops... I stand corrected, it was only banned in one pub. You can do a search - Danny Boy Banned New York, and a number of explanations will come up!
