self protection?...

the stealth technology can be used only for attacking the enemy on their ground.... if it would be for self protection.. why should u be hiding yourself? If it is really that powerful, then scare the enemy away with radar distortion instead... that can blind an entire enemy army during an invasion... not just hide 1 plane.

US build stealth aircraft just in case of a USSR invasion... to counter attack.. not to defend themselves...

Plus, radar stealth is outdated...

@NWEvolution the reason is we dont want to fight in our land, it will cost so many damage in our motherland, thats why we want navy ,aircraft carrier, and stealth fighter. old china dont have any wealth to be destoried, but now, we spend so many time to build new china, we dont want it to be bomed. us have so many base in other country, us dont want fight in their own land too.

the j-20 should be better.

the f-22 first flew in 1997. its design is already 14 years old. meanwhile, the j-20 is just being tested out now, so it probably wont be ready for military use until at least 2016.

Eh, people should learn to leave China alone. Is their tech behind now? Yea, it is, but that is nothing to be emberassed about given their history through the 50s to early 90s. Given enough time, their economy will prosper, and the money they will be able to throw into innovation and technology will eclipse everyone else.

J20 actually got better review on its stealth then T50 did (APA). Currenty J20 basic design is superior to those of T50 and F-35. But unlike F35 russian jet is still just a premature demonstrator and will probably change significantly for final production.

Chinese 8500 miles bullet train train system took only 4 years, Other nations? took 40 years. i bet u the J-20 will be in service within 3 years

@greaterchinaforum but you can't make a large number of your new aircraft. You still have yet to achieve total Air Dominance. If you are unable to produce these aircraft en mass then it is a waste. With a large number of stealth aircraft there will be no need for all of those other fighters. But you do not have multiple squadrons of stealth aircraft. Just more Russian tech being used for more fighters... I do admire the beautiful air-frame. Front profile closely resembles the Raptor. Good luck!

Problem of the F-22 is all the parts r made in 42 states location, then assembly together to get congressional approval. 1 hour fly need 30 hours maintinance, can't fly under rain(Due to coating), $355 mn each inflated cost, that is how got canceled
