  • Toronto city hall in the back ground and im in Saskatchewan lol

  • For Adam Keep going. Love You

  • I had the goof fortune of meeting the drummer a few days ago. He does motivational speaking! He's amazing!

  • "Oh hey, they have the Monkees! They were a huge influence on the Beatles!"

  • @ZyxthePest The Beatles were around before the Monkees.

  • @InlineFury1 Quote fail.

  • I im Peter P Head

  • My favorite remake of all times.

  • HAIL DUMB AND DUMBER

  • "The lovely Miss Ellen Reid.".....Woooooooooohoooooo!

  • haha bonjour eh,oh canada eh

  • thumbs up if you think she looks just like Christina Applegate

  • I saw the Dummies live at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, round about 1993. Oh Ellen.........

  • @natedog2069 what?

  • awful

  • Such a shame.

This version of the song is mockery of the orginal by XTC, and yet this has more views.

  • @BlackSwanized And it happens yet again... There is a whole population out here who never thought XTC was any big thing, and like this version of the song just fine. I met a girl who wanted me to like XTC as much as she did before giving it up, and I couldn't even fake it. So give it a rest. ;-)

  • Happiest drummer ever. Best low-voiced singer since Barry White.

  • Happiest drummer ever.

  • @TheObknox I met him today, he came to our school! He is really happy, and outgoing and awesome. He's just so full of energy, it's great!

  • @TheObknox Yes yes he is. was at my school today, hes still happy as ever lol

  • @TheObknox That's because contrary to popular belief...drummers get all the pussy. Women love aggression and rhythm, something about beating on skins make woman wet, at least thats been my history.

  • Song ruined, XTC is the original and the only good version..

  • I miss the dummies... :(

  • I agree the volume needs to be readjusted. to silent.

  • the volume needs to be readjusted

  • Oh Jeff Daniels, you're such a coot.

  • Guess it's time to take the rotten punkins from Halloween off the porch finally.

  • very quiet upload

  • underrated greatness for sure!

  • LAWL HARRY DUNN

  • Well, I likr how the video points out the foolishness of christianity.... well... all religion.

  • @hotbbojbud does it now

  • Thats the funniest trip iv ever seen lol.

  • It's nice to see my peers also doing the music of truth to align the soul.

  • hmm just noticed this was filmed in Toronto. Sweet! you can see city hall at 3:10

  • Props to both XTC and Crash Test Dummies.

  • JEFF FUCKING DANIELS. I like this long a little bit more now.

  • But he made too many enemies

Of the people who would keep us on our knees..........

  • hey! come sing with me! tell me how u think i did on my cover of "the psychic"!

    /watch?v=AzXBYOuFKmY

  • This group is hypnotising and i like it!!

  • I always thought it was a shame that some of the more powerful (and controversial) lyrics in this cover seem poorly enunciated, almost as if the singer is deliberately making them hard to decipher, e.g. 1:48 "Peter merely said any kind of love is all right" and 2:40 "He died grinning on live TV". You'd have trouble making either of those out without a lyric sheet.

  • Now I remember why I had a crush on Ellen Reid.

  • @MrDukemeister didt know her but just developped one

  • @MrDukemeister Duke....now i remember that crush never went away...

  • Why are you fighting over whose version is better? This song blows no matter who plays it!

  • I like both versions equally.

  • Well, I like this version better, althought it's not an original CTD song. XTC's version is also longer, it has one more verse ( if you haven't noticed, CTD omit the second verse of the original), but, musically speaking, this one fills me much more, Ellen Reid's voice is awesome, and the song goes faster too. Love both versions, but if I had to pick one, I'd pick this one.

  • do yourself a favor and listen to the real version...XTC rules !

  • do yourself and listen to the real version...XTC rules !

  • @dasubuibi no.

  • @dasubuibi how is this not a real version? i think you mean original version.

  • I actually met the drummer once. He's pretty cool.

  • Hi, Harry. Harry Dunn.

  • That guy from Dumb and Dumber is funny. This song is okay, but the best part of the vid is that faceplant he does. I laughed.

  • more like the ballad of peter foreskin head!

  • Just had a listen to XTC's version. THIS one is far more structured...and has a better hook. Ellen Reid does an incredible job...along with with the male backup, organ, harmony, etc. There's just more to it. Credit to XTC though....they did write it.

  • @myboygabriel

How is this version more structured? It uses the exact same form, harmony, and instrumentation (w/ the exception of the tambourine lol)

  • @myboygabriel naw, XTC did it much better.

  • Love this song it's got a chatchy tune lol

  • LOVE THIS SONG!

  • The 90s and its FANTASTIC COVERS.

    examples:

Stone Temple Pilots - Dancing Days

    Veruca Salt - My Sharona

    Cracker- Shake Some Action

Letters To Cleo - Dangerous Type

    Hole- Goldust Woman

    Belly - Are You Experienced?

  • GIVE ME THE BOOZE YOU PUMPKIN PIE HAIR CUTTED FREAK

  • The harmonica is the best part

  • the blonde in this is fit

  • lol@the lyrics nice song

  • wow, this girl can sing!!! : )

  • I am really glad to see this video on here my dad is in this video he is the hotdog man at 2:44 most of my family did not get to see this video . And it is Jeff Daniels at the starting and he is Canadian

  • @ilovepogo Jeff Daniels is American. Good video though,

  • I was sickened to hear people identify this as a Crash Test Dummies song

  • I believe in the pumpkinhead.

  • Winnipeg, Manitoba ,Canada...

  • Nvm he's not Canadian

  • the beginning with the canadian part is funny cause i'm pretty sure Jeff Daniels is canadian

  • Ellen is smoking hot here

Also, sounds like Brad says "Lesbian" at the start! :)

  • XTC indeed. This isn;t a cover, it's a copy - everyone is playing the exact same parts as the XTC version - very imaginative ripoff.

  • lol.. is that jeff daniels? either that or dave coulier. either way, it's still random

  • @m00ph00 It's Jeff Daniels. This song is on the Dumb & Dumber soundtrack and Jeff Daniels starred in that movie along side Jim Carrey....hilarious movie, btw.

They always did that cheesy stuff with songs that were on movie sound tracks. Directors would usually get one of the stars to have a cameo in the music video or the singer would be put on a set resembling a part in the movie. Just look at Cyndi Laupers "Good Enough" video...prime example.

In summation, it's not random that he's there.

  • Such a fabulous song. Saw the XTC in concert the other night. Ellen performed this song and it was absolutely amazing.

  • Nice version...

  • Dumb and Dumber!!

  • Thumbs up if this song makes you think of Julian Assange

  • @eurosbee YES EXACTLY!

  • Why would the Crash test dummies cover a song that was released just a couple of years before?

Really? what's the point of realeasing this as a single??? Seems they just wanted to take advantage of the original's success

  • @clasemedieros Or perhaps as a tribute?

  • @clasemedieros Well it is a decent remake.

  • Thanks for uploading. Is this available on DVD anywhere?

  • the harmonica player now goes under the name "son of dave". he's fucking awsome!

  • Прикольная песня!Раньше не обращал внимания, но сейчас очень понравилась! Круто!!!

  • Has anyone found the underlieing story in this song?

  • Inferior to XTC's version.

  • indeed!

  • @reivenlocke

    vastly so...

  • @reivenlocke: doesn't matter whether it's XTC or CTD...if u were born later then I understand u like it, but I like CTD better because i was part of the 90's phenomenon...don't tell me it's inferior coz I myt think the same way as XTC's (but I won't go that route)...The point: XTC abd CTD are both good bands, but they're just apart by the timeline they belong to...whether it's XTC and CTD, we have two good renditions of the song here...

  • @spitster0877

Uh...the XTC version was released in 1992. Really shows you how bottomed out you have to be to remake a song 2 years after the original release.

  • @reivenlocke stupid comment.

  • @daviddowns81

    Cry more.

  • @reivenlocke I am not crying, I am laughing.

  • @daviddowns81

    Cry more.

  • @reivenlocke

Exactly how many cd's have you recorded?

  • @gerrysauto

    Ridiculous cop-out.

You don't have to be Wolfgang Puck to recognize inferior food.

You don't have to be Billy Martin to recognize inferior coaching.

You don't have to be Patrick Roy to recognize inferior goaltending

and you don't have to be David Geffen or David Gilmour to recognize an inferior version of a great song.

  • @reivenlocke true, but not bad nonetheless.

  • @reivenlocke In my honest opinion, I actually disagree, CTD's added a lot more soul and and sound to it. The sound in the original sounded a little too thin. But still, lots of respect for the original writers.

  • @reivenlocke funny, i don't recall anyone asking for your opinion...if you don't like it, watch something else, or better yet, write a song.

  • My only problem is that this was apparently recorded at a low volume.

  • Me and Barry used to do this song at Kilvert's in Hay on Wye (Wales) on Tuesday Open Mic Nite....

  • I love XTC and I love this song! Still, I like this version better than the overly obvious video from Andy and Colin. A previous comment noted that XTC were somewhat reluctant about making videos. After watching the original version of this, I can understand why.

  • This is a great cover of a great song! Although I like the XTC version of the song better, this video is far superior to XTCs overly obvious, American-bludgeoned production.

  • @oldglenndog

Why is it so wrong to show the inspiration for the song (JFK)?

  • @reivenlocke The inspiration for the song came from a Jack O Lantern that Andy Partridge carved, that he stuck on a fencepost in his garden. He said that seeing it decay more and more each day made him feel sorry for it, so he decided to make it a hero in a song.

  • @shiftyshard

That's where the name came from. The lyrics came from Andy drawing parallels between Jesus and JFK.

  • @reivenlocke Andy has said the song isnt about any one person, or persons, but rather any leader, religious or otherwise, who has been too good to be true.

Peter Pumpkinhead is like a character that represents all of those people.

  • @mcdonaldman56 well, Africa by Toto is rubbish to start with (but maybe i'm only being biased because my sister plays it EVERY GODDAMN TIME i'm in her car). and pardon the troll, I was being fussy. this is just one of those songs that I feel shouldn't be tampered with, under no circumstance. *white flag*

  • Comment removed

  • @psychosulk That means that almost all covers are terrible and unneeded. for example. Africa- Toto Journey- Dont Stop Believin' and Alphaville- Forever young were all ripped off so bad and the new remix sucked so hard im surprised their heads didn't implode. Not every cover is great, or even decent. At least they didn't butcher it by adding in a line of rap and calling it their own.

  • Why... why u had to do this? Crash test dummies ... thx for ruin it. Long live xtc.

  • one hit wonder band.

  • @jkbnumber1 crash test dummies were not one hit wonders. they had alot of hits here in canada. a wicked canadian band!!!

  • @MrCapterofsin They're English mate!

  • @jkbnumber1 um nope

  • @jkbnumber1 They actually had a few hits. Superman's song, MMM MMM, This, few more

  • Una versión muy buena de la cancion.Yo primero escuche el original de XTC, luego escuche a The Dummies y, con todo el respeto a XTC, le dieron a esta nueva versión el toque que le faltaba para ser exelente como ahora lo es.

  • Great song! But the original version by XTC is still the best version ever.

    Thanx for uploading this! :-)

  • This is really crappy quality. There is a better copy up on YT that does not sound like shit and look sloppy.

  • Is it just me, or is there something quintessentially Canadian about this video? Well, regardless, I think that's what makes this video oh so remarkably GREAT!

    Long live the 90's! :)

  • "So why you guys going to Aspen? Vacation?"

"Why don't you eat up and we'll tell ya."

  • Ellen is amazing. She should have sand many more songs with the Dummies.

    LOVE HER!

  • is peter pumpkinhead supposed to be jesus?? makes sense if it is, public crucifixion, the people trying to act like him after his death when they walk towards the church - communion when they line up and eat the pumpkin given by a "priest" - the lyrics about how he "made too many enemies of the people who would keep us on our knees"

  • @tripe2004 No, this song is actually about Jacky Chan, few people know this but Jacky lived and almost identical life to Jesus, but instead of being crusified he went on to star in many martial arts movies. :P

  • @tripe2004 The idea is essentially trhat if someone these days came and did the sort of things a figure like jesus did, it still wouldnt end well at all for him, i think.

  • @tripe2004

Andy Partridge of XTC, who wrote this song, said it was about an unnamed person who could be any number of people: JFK, Jesus, John Lennon even.

It's up to the listener to interpret it in their own way - there's no right or wrong.

The name, incidentally, was inspired by an old, shrivelled pumpkin Partridge had carved for his children. It still sat on the garden fence, forlorn, months later, so he penned this song in its honour.

  • I want to marry Ellen. She's so freakin' hot!

  • 0:16 LESBIAN

  • For the life of me, I have no idea why like this song. I just do, and I can't explain it. Thank you to whoever posted this song.

  • Oh the irony...

You upload a stolen song, then make money off of an ad for the exact song. The internet has opened doors that we could not have imagined!

  • @CommentClown I'm fairly sure that isn't a money generating ad but is just a link to the band's page.

  • @CommentClown This is a stolen song?

  • no es mejor "the ballad of leonard and charles" Exodus..escuchenlo

  • chascon culiao

  • damn this song is good! XD

  • Great Song !

  • YO YO YO tht Jeff Daniels. huh wat a screw chance i watched Dumb and dumber last night!

  • I miss the 90's and the early aughts.

  • @stigler30 You mean when the radio still played artists and wasnt completly run by puppets of the record labels? Ya I miss those days.

  • @stigler30 Early aughts? Thanks grandpa stigler.

  • @stigler30 me too...

  • @stigler30 thats exactly what i thought when i clicked on this video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wish the crash test dummies didnt cut out that second verse

  • Fooking awesome, mate... thank you soo much

  • Comment removed

  • its tingly more than hot

  • This song brings back memories. I have NO idea why its been replaced on my Dumb and Dumber DVD. I guess I was ripped off.

  • What's the point of this cover? They just sing the same song only more generically because they're canadian.

  • @fleebenworth Are you a generic asshole or do you work at it?

  • @shanelizard Someone's upset that they're canadian. Anyway I didn't mean it as a slight against canadians only that this band is the ultimate mid-nineties generic label vehicle.

  • @fleebenworth

Though it is senseless to argue about something as subjective as art, technically you're quite wrong about this 'cover'.

Crash Test Dummies made a very smart gamble putting Ellen Reid out front for this one. Though the XTC single was catchy (leading to it's burst of popularity), vocally it was completely uninteresting. It was like a rough draft version to be later recorded by some ringers. Crash Test Dummies delivered.

Familiarity sometimes skews perspective of these matters.

  • @CommentClown

While I can understand your intelligent assertion that one's appreciation of art is subjective and it is therefore difficult to argue what's 'right' or 'wrong', do you REALLY think this is superior?

You think XTC's version is 'rough' in comparison to this? XTC's musicianship is far higher; this cover is a raspy mess with little energy.

By the way, The Crash Test Dummies absolutely IDOLISE XTC; I'd wager even they themselves would put XTC's original above this effort.

  • @TheMightyHartley

I rarely prefer covers over the originals. Inherently, the writers of the song have personal and deep emotion about the lyrics that surface in the musical nuances - normally not well reproduced by a band just trying to repeat the song note for note. But Crash Test Dummies took their own direction, replacing XTC's fuller band with simplified instrumentals and their trademark baritone vocal backup. By moving Reid out in front, they nailed this. Thumbs up Crash Test Dummies!

  • 2:14-2:18 Dwight Schrute holding camera.

  • que buena cancion¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

    thats its a gooooood songggggggggggggggggggg¡¡

    tnks

  • Jeff Daniels is so hot. Love that GQ cover pic!! ;)

  • Where have I been? Wow, her voice is fantastic! I have to admit to seeing this video for the first time. This song is really good. Man, she can sing!

  • I still like the CTD version, while still appreciating XTC's original!

  • XTC!!

  • I saw them the other night on their 2010 tour. What a woman !!!

  • Hey Harry, ol buddy, ol pal!....
