he can barely get past this one note.. a note a few songs reach in some of the songs and u can tell he strains and doesnt quite make it..

No no no. They played in lower tuning because it was heavier and because the Melvins did. Same reason Soundgarden down tunes. Because they were all way into the Melvins who almost always play in drop D or lower. A pop song in drop D is all of sudden a little less pop and little more hardcore. THat's what they were going for.

Drop d would virtually be them playing in the same key it just provides different fingerings for the chords virtually.. being that i dont believe hes playing any notes lower than the lowest e on the e string.. Maybe they tuned down a certain amount of semi tones which is more likely and is a practice commonly used to accomadate singers with lower cvoices or maybe just make it sound different.. help make singing less stressful on the voice etc

Nirvana messed with tunings all the time... as low as C standard for stuff like "Blew". On the record "Drain You"/"Lithium" are in D standard, "Teen Spirit"/"In Bloom" in E standard and so on. They are half a step down for this whole set I think.

Too bad there's no proper recording of their gig at Roskilde that same summer. It took place on the very same night as Denmark won the European Football Championship, and EVERYONE was exstatic. Kurt came on stage and said: "Congratulations on winning the sports event", and then they just kicked off. The magic of this band cannot be located within the forms of their material. It came from the outside. Just as if History itself had stepped into the room, and we would all get up and be respectfull.

What a fucking ACE performance! Kurt really gives it in this show, like with all his shows, even if he's not feeling it. This is still when there is joy in him, in his bandmates, in Nirvana. The greatest performance at Reading, and I've been to most since 1986. We'd be lucky to see a band that comes even within one half of the brilliance of Nirvana again within our lifetimes.
