  • But why don't they use the processed bauxite to fill up the mine again? If they can get it out, and transport it, why doesn't it work the other way around then? When the trucks leave the mine with bauxite, they go and dump it somewhere, where it processed, or further transported. So, the trucks now go back empty. Why can't they go back filled up with the processed soil?! Because, the mining industry isn't going to stop becaus they're polluting the land. Yeah, when there isn't any left, than...

  • 1 person who watched this video likes to plant vegitation in bauxite.

  • these companies are making money, they ain't stop it. It's now up to the Jamaican to solve their problem. Similiar case also happened in Vietnam

  • A biocide is a chemical substance capable of killing living organisms, usually in a selective way. Biocides are commonly used in medicine, agriculture, forestry, and in industry where they prevent the fouling of water and oil pipelines. Some substances used as biocides are also employed as anti-fouling agents or disinfectants under other circumstances

  • From Jamacia to India it is the same everywhere!

  • hi, I'm a high school student in Canada, and I was wondering if you could let me use this video, "Environmental damage from mining in Jamaica", as a source for a documentary I'm preparing to make conscience at school of what is the background of an aluminum can. Thank you.

  • The lackey Media in Jamaica is not going to cover these problems. Good for AlJazeera-English, it would be great if you would turn your attention to our human rights problems as well!

  • We can help by spreading these videos all over our own private networks.

The World knows and love the music of Uncle Bob and now it is time to take care of his heritage.

  • I grew up in Northern Ontario Canada, Mineing towns, Ever see whats left after the mines are played out? Until recently they started cleaning up their acts. But i can see Jamaica being exploited justs as we were as kids in the North.

  • from an environmental point of view - the waste from the mines COULD be ameliorated by improving water holding abilities and decreasing mineral percentage content by adding organic matter. naturally i think the mining companies should pay for this.

  • Issues facing Jamaica's second largest industry are caustic soda contamination of water supplies, bauxite and alumina dust, and eco-system dislocation. However, the island is so dependent on the export that it is very difficult to stop the practice. Being a limited resource in Jamaica, some day it will. But until then Jamaica needs to find mining techniques that are less harmful to the environment.
