This was the best car Subaru have made a few mods and adjustments and you have a rocket , mine is a 2005 lowered, stage 3 conversion and has not missed a beat since new ,the latest offerings from Subaru forrester fall way short of this future classic
I have the Subaru car that call the Outback. It 3.0 litre and it have flat 6 motor... veerrry good car on and off road. Subaru for life, my wife say no good but I say Honda no good bitch.... but now she left me. But I have subaru so no problem you know? My 2nd subaru now.
Rear wheel bearing give up at around 100,000km, and essentially you can't change yourself. Snow chains foul the strut cups and wheel arches. You can even go from 60% to 70% tyres.
great vehicles. I have a 05 XT, a few tiny mods n she goes well. Fiddle with the boost and its amazing how much the standard turbo goes! great vehicle

@nova123 Yes! My husband would definitely agree! The model shown here, and all those Foresters pre 2009, were a real cult car! It's a cheaper Impreza, that was open to more modifications! Love it how Hammond calls it an "Im-pret-za" though. Now I can't go past one without thinking of pretzels, no matter how hot it looks. We're from the Im-prez-a school on pronunciation LOL. :)
@WizFizz lol yea its weird hearing ppl calling it im pret za but the only exceptional ppl that can say it are brit top gear ppl lol meaning clarkson hammond and may. but the older ones were cool too. i wouldnt say a cheaper impreza tho becuz its really the same car. its just that forester looked like it can handle more utility lol but subarus rule. just today i received my "get more G's" tennis ball from subaru for free too lol smells kinda chemically tho : (
im surprise that they did not put a range rover in that or a disco, or even a defender, i want to see them do a comparison between the forester, defender, land cruiser, h1 alpha, wrangler rubicon, and g 550 or g55 AMG.
This is a real usefull car no one can beat Subaru's boxer engines. This is a real spacious family car. I don't care what domestic car lovers say about it, no one can beat it
i own a first gen forester, and the interior is CRAP! my 94 honda had a nicer interior. but damn can it rip through snow like nothing else (plus, ive been averaging 29mpg with it)
@samihasib It depends on what your definition of off roader is. If you're defining it as doing crazy hill climbs on slopes made of deep sand and strewn with boulders, then no its not. But if its defined as needing to get up dirt roads in the pouring rain, plowing through a deep snow bank at the end of your drive, or trundling through a muddy field to get to a concert then, yes it'll do that just fine. In other words it will do whaterver 99.9% of people could possibly ever need it to do.
i love subarus I got a legacy. the quality is good, its fast (250hp), reliability is great, services aren't that expensive but when someone crashes you oh boy.
prepare to wait months and months to drive the car again.
my father got forester. incredibly comfortable, reliable, simple and spacious. during almost 4 years of intensive everyday use on russian roads nothing got broken or had to be changed.. maybe only a frontal bumper, after a little accident
my das got one of these, learnt to drive in it, got me into rallying, can remember sliding round forestry corners before i even had my learners lol and now i have an evo
car loves gravel roads and takes them very comftable
easy to drive like small cars (girls love to drive it) and very forgiving for driver erorrs its very controlable on critical conditions (sliding, oversteering, wet or snowy roads...)
climbs and descendes suprisingly well, can handle very steep in and out andgles
never lets me down, its limitation is usaly drivers ability
I love Subaru for considering their customers before their own profits. They want to make money with DELIGHTED customers, not make money and walk all over the customers. Well done, Subaru!
I drive a Nissan GTR and a Subaru station wagon... ( 05 XT turbo outback manual)... And the subbies can do everything and are entertaining as well... Great cars
I just picked up my first Subaru, a '97 Legacy Outback (US). 176k, auto, DOHC 2.5. While all of this was totally unplanned. I am impressed with the ride. This series had head gasket issues but mine is running well at the moment. Just as Mazda has continued to work the rotary, Subaru has continued to refine the boxer. Their new diesel is a gem.
@peteybfire Boxer. Kudo's to them for trying. We'll see if it holds up, time will tell. I don't see why a diesel boxer would not work, but if Subaru is going to have ridiculous head gasket issues, especially since it's a diesel, then it'll be a flop. It has to be capable of, minimum, 300,000 miles, relatively trouble free. If not, why bother, plenty of others know how to make a diesel.
@ShelbyMustang456789 Considering you can't really get a Defender here in the states I wouldn't know; haven't driven one. What I do know is that I've been off road in my 99 Forester plenty of times and I haven't gotten stuck yet, even when I've seen other 4x4s bog down in the same conditions. The latter might have more to do with the relative skill of the drivers.
i fucking love my forester
