@sonn101 The audio is an accurate portrayal yes. One of the things I like about this 4U server is it has a fairly loud noise of the 7 redundant fans inside, as the 1U servers typically have a much higher screechy sound to them. I wish more servers sounded like this one.
i just got one of these for 41 quid. 4x2.8 8gb ram, and 2x 72gb drives. it came with ubuntu on it, and its all new to me... something to play around with and learn.
@MrEnglischjules Nice! I tried getting Ubuntu on this machine, but was unsuccessful. This machine is an i686 chipset and I tried finding this version of ubuntu online, but I could not successfully get it installed so I finally decided to give up. Fedora 15 is still good for me.
@misbooon I've never used CentOS before but I checked it out on distrowatch and I just don't know why I should use it. What is it about CentOS that you feel separates it from the rest? Plus, I physically can't install it. It's not an i686 chipset, so it won't be recognized upon installation.
You should have built an I7 or some other fast desktop instead since it seems that is what your using it primarily for (a GUI, Fedora, monitor connected etc) and it would have saved you a lot of money in hardware, upkeep and power costs. But anyways that's a nice machine enjoy yourself, I have many just like it or similar models and they all work great.
@702dirtrider Saved money with an i7??? I'm am sorry my friend but the i7 would have cost me a lot more. Did you read my description? This entire server only cost me 70.00 which is far less than what an i7 chip alone would have cost. It has four Intel Xeon 2.8 Ghz chips and for 70.00 for the entire device is something I couldn't argue with. I know I made the right choice.
I have one, but I have no hard drives in the bay. So, I'm running MS-DOS for the time being. This is a real server right here. It has amazing capabilities... I'm so lucky to have one <3
@exploblob Greetings, so you're wanting to go wireless? Because wired wouldn't require drivers. I also take it you have one of these as well? :) If you have a wireless router that you're trying to gain access to and you already have a compatible PCI card that you've made sure is securely plugged in and are getting the green lights for the connection, then I'm shocked that all three of those distros haven't worked yet. Are we on the same page so far?
@cyberjackcyberjack It's a sweet beast isn't it? I just bought a few extra parts online and hopefully by the end of the summer I'll have 16 GB's of ram in it
@10chadjordan01 Yes i love mine. only one problem you can get a fake memory errors depending on your serial version. i will send you the link. as mine says ive got 4 dims down, but i haven't r
@cyberjackcyberjack I did read that info regarding the link about the fake memory module reading. Although, I haven't had any kind of issues whenever boot up occurs and then when I'm in the os, I check my system/hardware monitor and everything checks out. The only time I've gotten a memory error is if I forget to switch the lock button over before bootup, but if that happens, the entire server will not turn on until you flip that internal switch anyway.
from the video's audio the server sounds kind of loud, is it that loud in real life?
