This a talent contest not a beauty contest. I love the way Susan Boyle made everyone eat their words/contempt for her judging do to her looks alone. She shut everyone's mouth's up. Esp. Simon. I've never saw so many "UGLY," people in that audience in my entire life!The only thing beautiful there, was on that stage, coming from Susan Boyle. I don't care, how beautiful you are on the outside. When you're UGLY in the inside, that ugliness always seeps through.

yeah its true you do get auditioned before seeing them, they cant actually watch everybody.

They have representatives which pick rubbish, average and amazing people. Average acts are only from time to time to create an argument between judges etc.

Thanks for posting. It just goes to show that "beauty" is only skin deep and Western culture places too much value on it. We shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, as they say.

I really don't think the judges knew about her beforehand. Obvious the producers and researchers did.

By the way, she's Scottish not Welsh. From the small town of Blackburn in West Lothian council area, near Livingston and Edinburgh.

No way did Simon or the other judges know before hand. Simon wears his heart on his sleeve and he was as moved as were all were.

Susan had also previously been turned away from the X Factor, and also My Kind of People.

The producers knew, they weed out applicants to a short list of 40, that's why the guys in the wings knew how good she was. There has been a good deal of coverage of Susan Boyle here in the UK, the quality press here are good at smelling a rat, but all of them testify the judges did not know.

Susan auditioned and then was invited back to go in front of the judges. But they don't hear the acts before hand so that they don't spoil the reaction. And Simon isn't that good an actor :-).

I hate reality tv too Jim, but mostly because they seem to either bring out the phoney or the extreme, or the meanness, or the set-up, etc., etc., but this is different. Susan Boyle can't be manipulated. What she is can't be faked. She is humble, brave and sincere and in a cynical world, this is exceptional! Thanks so much for sharing!
