That is why you see gifts on his bed in the hotel room, they are from the little girl and they represent how she forgives him. One of my favorite songs of all time. Its the mark of a great songwriter when you have a song that can be powerful to people but mean something different to each individual person. I don't get the video & forcing what is seen to fit the lyrics doesn't help- BUT, the lyrics alone suggest to me he is existing, not really 'living' & can't find it in himself to change his situation- he's seeking help from above to 'snap out of it'.
