  • I like the way Dr Rogers collars the bears better, with trust and food rewards.

  • VERY cool! I wonder about the human scent that might be left behind, how did the deal with that?

  • Who are the 60 people who do NOT like this video? They're probably the same ones who want to see their sisters become hookers, LOL!

  • Come on people! They are animal conservationists, they love and know these bears more than anyone else in the world! They're not "overdosing" the bears, we do the same thing to our selves and our pets for the purpose of minimizing stress. The stress of a medical routine can be more harmful to our health than the actual routine. Counting and collecting numbers on the bears is an important to protecting and maintaining the species and at no point was anyone, bear or man, in danger. Go science!

  • @YokoPolaris

Thank you for that. Such a nice counterpoint to those here who assume that trained scientists and specialists in bear behavior know less than they do. It's particularly amusing when a gun-toter insists he never sets food in the woods without a firearm capable of killing a bear. That's someone who either doesn't spend much time in the woods or doesn't spend time there except to kill the wildlife. Go science!

  • Awesome!

  • BRILLIANT!!

  • I think that explains 'alien abduction'. Just taking a head count.

  • That was funny

  • Interesting and fun video, the cubs are so cute.

  • They're not aggersive, except for the aggersive ones.

    Excatly

    But I have a shovle

ME- Yhea, like THAT'S gonna help

  • Thumbs up from me. Some people just overthink things. This video is cute.

  • Awwwwww :')

  • Oh man that's good.

Hey, do a show on beavers and call the fat one Lizzie May.

OhOh and do a show on Varying Hares (Snowshoe rabbits) that change their fur colour seasonally and call the buck toothed goggleyed one, Bob Ray.

    Ahahahahahaha good one Rick.

  • @platinum221 Perhaps you didn't realize you were speaking out loud then. You unintentionally sounded like an idiot. I'm sure what you meant to say was. "It's great to see people caring about the wildlife and monitoring the bears harmlessly them in this way."

  • So don't canadians eat bear meat???

  • Aww so adorable!

  • Um, these, are black bears you big babies.... Not brown, nor grizzlies. If, you need a gun to deal with a BLACK bear you have gone out of your WAY to antagonize it.

  • who is danny williams?

  • Lol

  • I hope that "bear guy" is a lot smarter than the last "bear guy" lmao. That said, I wouldn't travel in any woods without a gun capable of taking down a bear.

  • @MrGunman11 Cowards really need to stay out of the woods....

  • @askalice50 Dumb people can go in first. You obviously don't know wild animals, is that why you live in the woods? Or do you live in nice comfy suburbs?. Honestly I don't give a fuck about your life. That is why I carry while in my back yard. Past experiences change minds.

  • @MrGunman11 One sentence illicits this rant? Hilarious!

  • @askalice50 You call that a rant? Lmao Bet you call a handjob sex too huh. Pathetic.

  • A collar for Jim Flaherty LOLOL

  • Awww...how cute...

they they grow up and have the ability to rip your face off...

    AWWWW!

  • @LivesForJihad You got a thumbs up from me. Yes, when bears grow up they become very powerful, dangerous creatures. But about only times they attack a human is when someone makes horrible mistake of surprising a female with cubs, especially if the human is closer to the youngsters than ma. And the other small percentage (15%?) of attacks come when someone has left food out, especially while camping. I have seen a lot of documentaries about bears, and what makes them scatter often is LOUD NOISE

  • Rick is truly adorable....too bad he's gay. Another cutie lost...I have such a crush on him....even though he makes horrible fun out of us Americans.

  • how do I get a kick-ass job like this?!!

  • im actually watching the mercer report on youtube.. shhhh

  • This guy thinks he's so clever and funny, and he's not. Why can't people just appreciate nature without thinking we have to ENTERTAIN, too.

  • @jillyburt Cuz his show is a comedy/fake news program which he travels to different locations as well. And he is hilarious, just not to you apparently :)

  • this MIGHT be the cutest thing I've ever seen!!!! :)

  • The laugh track (or audience) is horribly annoying.

  • Uh-can't we just take photos of cute bears and not mess with nature so much?

  • Why the f*ck am I being offered to watch Katy Perry immediately after this video.

  • Wow,yep might want to update your will...bears are cute, but take momma bears cub ,and she is up enough to.do anything...you be a winter meal! :)

  • "No, let's just double it up." Hahaha! That made my afternoon.

  • OMG....The baby bears are amazing....so beautiful to see Momma & Babies in their home....ahhhhhhh. <3

  • Oh Wow!!!

What an amazing experience that would be!!

  • This was cute and hilarious!!!

  • LOL Jabstick and the shovel.

  • In Austria Elch in America etc. ?Moose? i love this word moose XDDD

  • Absolutely love this. Rick is a great "host', super sense of humor.

  • how does this have 2.2 million views and only 134 comments?

  • @xBAMFxSwift perhaps its embedding on a web site and thats where most of its views come from.

  • Well Rick that is the best report I have ever seen you do...

    Well done...

    :)

  • @CampCook12345 This is one of my youtube favorites. Every few months I come back to it. Rick is very clever, and it is also obvious that he loves the little bears. I love just about all furry mammals ..... but I also have nothing against hunters. We have an enormous overpopulation of deer in the eastern USA, for example.

  • I wonder how many thousands of dollars are spent every year, just so we can know exactly how many bears there are, and how much they weigh?

  • @GungHo1032 "I wonder how many thousands of dollars are spent every year, just so we can know exactly how many bears there are, and how much they weigh?"

I'm pretty sure it's just done to give the people who really run the world a good laugh. "Yeah, uh", giggle giggle, cough, "we're going to need you to count and weigh all the wild bears in the hemisphere." "That will be your job....thanks for stopping in..." door closes .... hysterical laughter breaks out .....

  • Haha cutest thing ever

  • Cool video but I cannot make out what he says to the wolf? What does he say at 0:56 anyone know?

  • @meganhartson He says "Oh there's a wolf, call Farley Mowat". Farley Mowat wrote about wolves.

  • @jimmystartup Thank you!

  • @meganhartson -- Farley Mowat was/is a famous Canadian naturalist, who wrote about wolves. Look him up on Wikipedia.

  • Wow those cubs are so cute!

  • I LOVE THIS GUY

  • Rick Rules

  • I am so jealous.

  • i laugh at all you people. i lived less than 10 km from Algonquin park. and i know all of the people who were involved here lol

  • @Snakebiteloo why exactly are you laughing at us?

  • @dreddekopp because its one of the most amazing places to live and the only ones that top it (in north america) are in the Rockys or in the Maritimes of Canada

  • @Snakebiteloo So, just because we live in an area that is not "amazing" by your standards, you laugh? I live in Ottawa and while I admit Algonquin Park is pretty cool I would never want to leave this AMAZING city

  • @dreddekopp yes but me personally would never be caught dead living in any real city so im still going to laugh

  • MARTYN OBBARD IS MY FRIENDS DAD

  • I am ridiculously jealous of Rick right now. Most biologists would kill for this opportunity!

  • I couldn't stop grinning. Wonderful story.

  • This guy is funny.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA.

  • Haha, that was one of his best! very good.

  • On RMR the vids are broadcast in a studio...in front of an audience..hence the laughter

Great stuff! Rick mercer for PM!

  • Ahhaha "I hit you and run"

  • ohh they're such cuties :)

  • I could watch this video 24/7 !!!!

  • So cute and a bit funny!

There was recently a tv show on BBC about bears with a similar perspective, The bear family and me.

  • Ever so cute bears. Very funny man that.

  • Beary interesting.

  • Canada and its inhabitants are earthly treasures! Truly North America's finest.

  • Rick Mercer is a national treasure.

  • Get the drugs! Get the drugs now!

  • I always knew Canadians are funny people! This proves it without doubt...very good sense of humor from rick and even the scientist! I saw this from cybj3k,I never do coz I don't trust links but this was on youtube so i checked it out for what it is worth.Really enjoyed it!

    Love you canada!

    Cheers from India!!

  • I'm totally high right now, this is tripping me the fuck out.

  • WOW... this guy is special, in the idiotic and childish manner than only a pampered person from holewood can be.

  • @sbseed Rick Mercer is from St. John's. He lives in Canada. Flawed logic indeed.

  • Rick Mercer just gets cooler and cooler! <3

  • thought bears lived till 30 plus

  • Gorgeous baby bears!

  • Why are they studying them?

  • Stacy sent this ta me.......it's cute.

  • shovel ready eh???

    :D

  • awesome

  • Great commentary! :)) Thanks Jo (ChiChiBabe44) for sharing. Thumbs up!

  • Amazing. I've heard of a barefoot boy but a boyfoot bear? Danny Williams.

  • He just seems like such a nice guy.

  • Rick, is fantastic! I really enjoyed his commentary. Thanks, for posting this.

  • Is there any way to get a copy of this to play offline on a laptop? I'm a Scouts Canada Beavers Leader and would like to play this for the kids as we are talking about hibernation this week. But there is no internet.

  • @alanmckay If you go to keepvid.com and type this URL into the bar with an example youtube URL and hit download, you can download it for free off youtube.

  • @alanmckay Try kepvid.com ... just paste in the URL from the video and you can download it.

  • Guess this is what they mean by "Shovel ready" projects. Rick finally found one!

  • how cool i that....what a awesome job to have

  • Why dub laughter? ...I mean really

...on another note the squeals from the little ones touched my heart ...I wanted to see them being snuggled 'cause they must have been cold having been taken away from their Mom ...RM redeemed himself when he exclaimed they're in my sleeves ...I felt appeased when I knew the cubs were being kept warm inside peoples jackets ...in fact it was cute even sweet thanks!

    thanks too for sharing

  • Fantastic. Thanks for letting the Americans enjoy the gifts of Rick Mercer.

  • awww! That is so adorable!

  • YouTube, WTF. I change to Full Screen and the entire video starts RELOADING. Crap, now I have to wait,. ... again, as the video reloads again. Screw you. This was not how YouTube used to work... so your changes have severely screwed up one of YouTube's better features.

  • I Also heart Rick mercer!!!!

  • I'm American and I heart Canada!

  • @lap465 Thanks for sharing the love. Hugs back at you and yours :)

  • zoomlens, just for the sake of accuracy, "Congress is made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives" (or just House). I agree with you though, they all should be tagged (for dismissal).

    RamahG

  • this video is adorable. i can't believe the baby bears are so little. i just came back from the state of Virginia and i was hoping to see a black bear but unfortunetly we didn't but it is ironic that i just happen to have this video in my email box. so glad they sent it to me.

  • that was WONDERFUL to watch! :)

  • They are adorable!

    "Can I name them?"

"Do I have to put all three back? Can I keep one?"

    Too funny!

  • Rick Mercer is very funny but an amazing video of how they tag bears & their cubs.

  • Americans love this too,,,, love it!

  • if push comes to shove.... students are expendables lol

  • How fun is this?!

  • I heart Canada.

  • I heart Canada.

  • My friend Roxanne shared this video with me! It is cute...Canada's finest!

  • Very cute, Rick is funny

  • Nice vid, but they REALLY need to lose the 1970s canned laugh track....

  • @PalmCityStudios I feel silly responding to a 7 month old comment but this clip was part of the Rick Mercer Report, it's viewed in front of a live audience. Think Jon Stewart but Canadian.

  • What a great video. This is worth watching many times over. Rick Mercer is of course his usual funny self, and the cubs, well, words can not describe them. Watch for yourself.

  • This video is so funny!

  • Who wants a big collar like that? That's not comfortable at all. I know they are trying to help, but there must be a better way to track them. What about micro-chips?

  • This is worth the watch. Tagging an awake mommy bear and her cubs in their den. Funny!!

  • Awesome video.

  • I met that guy on a fishing trip to the Park.

  • Comment removed

  • What a waste of taxpayers money. Fun, but expensive.

  • @deernutOO This is in Canada Duh!

  • bears are cute!

  • Rick went from being a complete coward -- "hey, let's give her a double dose immediately!!" -- to falling in love with the cubs. Wanted to take one home with him! Hey, some bear experts have done that, rescuing orphaned cubs and becoming their parent. Guess what? Nearly any very young mammal will come to look at any human who feeds it and protects it as its parent.

  • this is hysterical and wonderful and funnier than all get out.....

  • I went to school with Martin's kids

  • Very cool!

  • it is truly amazing what becomes available to the world to view. Thanks

  • funneh!!!!

  • I tagged a hot chick at a bar one time.

  • @delano62 Yeah, but she take kindly to it ?? Or scratch the living daylights out of you? :>) :>) Or scratch you while you were "making life hard" for her?? :>) :>)

  • Absolurly fabulous, I do so envy you !!!!!

  • lol show shovel from Canadian tire to keep the bear in XD

  • apparently,

snow shovel for canadian tire> black bear

  • That's Canada for you. XD Canadian Tire shovel trumps vicious mother black bear with cubs.

  • @timecampfff Ahahahaha.

  • I'm glad I was informed of the huge amount of vicious animals AFTER I went for a dogsledding expedition and slept in that park for days.

  • i once tagged and tatood fish

    it was fun

  • that sick i would even do that

  • Rick, thank-you so very much for sharing this with us, it was just amazing, you "Rock" thanks so much, those cubs are trully priceless!!!!!!!!!!!

  • mama was so friendly too:) didn't bight or anything:)

  • there sooo cute:D love the sounds:D soo sweet

  • what an awesome job:) rick mercer is cool:)

  • Rick Mercer has one of the best jobs in the world

  • One of Rick's best ever segments.

  • haha, my teacher just emailed my class this video saying these will be the bears we see on our outdoor ed camping trip XD

  • Just great!!! Thanks Rick.

Will be posting this on my Northnews website so all northerners can enjoy.

  • A lot of my US friends wanted to see this

video, when they try to watch it says its

    not available in their country??

What is up with that Rick?

  • Its legal issues.

Us Canadians cannot watch stuff that is owned by Americans (like Scrubs).

  • naa what u talkin about scrubs is on canadian television i saw it on some canadian channel, like not peachtree tv

  • jeeze i even remember typing that out.

Even though it is on Canadian TV channels, sites like Hulu, CBS, MTV won't allow Canadian residence (or anyone for that matter outside the USA) to watch their programs.

  • so u mean like

if i lived in new york and their was a canadian channel it would be on? ye ur probably right about that

but i live in canada and saw it

  • oh and i meant scrubs

  • O: my friend was there with rick mercer :)

  • LOVED IT!

  • I would feel a bit scared... being dropped off in the middle of the forest around all these wild animals while teh helicopter left :P lol

  • LOL

  • Bloody Brilliant. The whole segment. Where can I contribute to buy a collar for Harper?? Preferably one that comes with a shock option every time he lies.....

  • @ooolldgoalieeeee harpers awsum stop dissing him you NDP morons.

  • @viper10011

It's spelled "AWESOME". And you call NDP supporters morons?

  • @ooolldgoalieeeee If you get one, let us know so we can buy 535 of them for the US Senate and congress.

  • @ooolldgoalieeeee ... ROFLMAO

  • @ooolldgoalieeeee can we add the feature that it also shocks him when he prorouges parliment?

  • @ooolldgoalieeeee there ain't a battery built that's strong enough... but you knew dat, right?

  • Loved watching. Impossibly cute and cuddly stuff. Keep up the good work Rick.

  • Your the Best Rick Mercer! You make me proud To be a fellow Canadian! Born and raised in NWO T.Bay On love the bears right up there with Ice climbing Sauna's the Hoito and Ice Racing in Thunder Bay!
