  • whoever conceptualized this is a genius. This is what we call an innovative design. Plus, based on my researches, this skyscraper is a green building...PLUS WOW!

  • How don't you get dizzy in that building?

  • look the sky battle!!!: youtube.com/watch?v=Km9AKXRZ7PU

  • I'm muslim. This would be a nightmare, I'de never know which direction mecca is when I pray. jk :-)

  • It would be cool to see this building rotating in a tornado.

  • :P

  • it so gorgeous!! i love it!

  • yea but... what if theres no wind??!?

  • Это просто круто и фантастично!!!!

В такие моменты думаешь почему не я об этом додумался((

Респект Фишеру. Дал всем под зад.

  • like a DNA

  • Uhh amazing :)

  • 1:19 like water O-O It would get a trend if the first is build

  • Housing of the future! Made me think of the Venus Project! Only thing is that the sheikhs are ripping people off by charging over US$3,000 a square foot! And it costs less to build than a regular skyscraper! It may be expensive now but i see these popping up all over the world for an affordable price a few decades down the road.

  • pure shit. Kubrick is far better.

  • that's a pretty awesome design you'll never get bored of the sight from your window

  • dynamic dogaja zlati glas konga

  • it reminds me of a fish

  • WONDERFULL

  • BUY AWNE STOCK!

  • @BTabs why ?

  • amazing

  • This is a beautiful example of progress. I love it!

  • Amazing:)

  • sick.

  • Just think of how many moving parts(i.e things that can break) there would have to be for this to even be physically possible. talk about maintenance

  • This is real dear friend...a practical example under construction is the ROTATING TOWERS in abu dhabi(UAE). the tower rotates on its axis.evry 45 minutes ur window has a new view. googl eit u will find it.the architect is a brazilian.

  • This concept is impractical. Where's the plumbing and the water pipes? Does everyone have to go to the core that organizes these prefabricated living units in order to take a bath or brush teeth? If the pipes can be connected at time intervals, then people will have to wait in order for the core and the unit to connect just so that they can use the toilet. This is highly unlikely in such a luxury hotel.

  • you are so right it's totally useless to buiold something like that and terribly complicated..... only to get a different view from your window , waht a waste of money if they do it

  • Well, honestly, It's not our money. It's theirs and they are welcome to waste it any way they please.

  • Comment removed

  • I wonder if it is designed to be earthquake proof...

  • How would you use an elevator?

  • elevator probs in the middle

  • @dhruva55 its the only place it could be but if you add a thick enough middle pillar to sustend the building, elevators (a few of them) and stairs (all of theese cant move) the core would be significantly thick... let see

  • David Fischer is the architect. Google it or do a YouTube search. There is supposed to be a car elevator as well so tenants can park their car in the building.

  • you have played too much with the 3d computer-programs!!!!

  • this is real my friend..

  • That's gonna get diiiiiiizzy.

  • until now, it's scary to live in :S

  • that would be so cool!

  • It's an amazing idea. No one will get sick or puke. It's not moving 80mph. The Earth is moving as you read this. Are you sick yet?

  • my dad is the resident consultant of this project in dubai (Arc. Nabil Hashem the GM of SPACE CONSULT)

Hope dis project starts soon n ammazes all ppl arround da globe coz its really unique

    cheers

n by da way da rotating speed is not dat fast u'll neva feel ur appartment spining, its to slow dat u will just feel nothing

  • Don't see how you would feel drunk. A family friend has a "dynamic" house which rotates throughout the day. Also, one does not feel queazy when one has a meal in the CN tower, for example......go figure....

  • imagine people living inside there will feel dizzy and may puke lol

  • I didn't get that it "takes hours for a full rotation" until I read the comments. They should have that in the description because 95% of the people who watch this are not physicists, and won't know that, because just watching the video gives you the impression it's showing the movement in real-time.

I was thinking "The hell? It'll make people sick, spinning around like a top!" Just the spinning tower in Sea World at San Diego is impressive enough - this would be breathtaking.

  • Nah. It's not flimsy. It's actually really strong.

If I were working on this, I'd design it to be fixable from the inside. You can take a car up in the lift, so replacing a window the same way should be doable.

Dude, do you have any idea how heavy each floor is? A strong gust won't spin this very fast at all. It takes hours for a full rotation.

The building looks beautiful, is original and looks structurally sound.

  • All the pods are cantilevered off the magical core.

First the thickness of each pod slab will have to be large enough to support the whole apartment cantilever, more wasted space. Next the core will have to be reinforced to support a large shear and moment force at each pod connection. If I was a betting man, I would bet if it does get built it will only be 8-12 stories max and it will have way more problems than it's initial novelty warrants. The most material wasting tower I have ever seen.

  • It's made of ultra-leight-weight and super strong materials. It'll be assembled like lego blocks. The cost of building this tower is actually very cheap.

All cores are reinforced. People have examined the blue prints, crunched the numbers, etc. This tower checks out. Furthermore, the materials used won't be much more than a standard tower of the same size, and will save a huge amount of energy.

If you were a betting man, I'd bet against you.

  • What are the materials. How will the cantilevered pods tie into the structure? What I meant by reinforcing the core was that it would have to be reinforced to compensate for the moment of a cantilever which is much greater than the force of a column so it would have to be greatly reinforced using much more steel and concrete making it a very wasteful core. Also the depth of the floor slab would have to be greater using trusses even more steel and wasted height. What are these magic materials?

  • Many of your complaints are just ridiculous. "Wasteful core"? Are you joking? Your complaint is that it needs a few more materials? I'm sorry. I wasn't aware this would make the building unsafe. nor was I aware of the immense shortage of concrete, steel, iron and carbon. Never mind the energy it saves. Never mind the time and manpower saved. Those metals are in very short supply.

  • You are freaking delusional. It's like talking to a little kid that thinks he saw Santa Claus. Until you face reality is impossible to convince you of anything. If you are an architecture student please ask for a refund on your tuition. You do not have any concept basic structural principles. I'm trough wasting time on you.

  • Yes, weather-proofing every floor and ceiling. You're complaining he's using too many materials. Either show me how desperately short in supply these materials are, or shut up. Honestly, what do you care if it will need more resources?

No, not an architecture student. I'm just not an idiot who feels about complaining when a man uses more materials than normal in building a tower.

  • "I have this brilliant, revolutionary, original idea that will capture public interest and imagination all over the world, and the building is totally safe and self-powered, cheap to assemble and will be completed in just 18 months!"

"I'm sorry, but you're using too many materials. It's not that they're in short supply, or that it'll be so expensive to build that we won't make a profit. I just don't like how many building materials you use."

  • Let me ask you something; in what sense is a skyscraper, a huge, impractical tower that needs many more resources than smaller buildings, not a wasteful creation? All skyscrapers are "wasteful" on materials.

  • If I remember correctly, it will incorporate carbon nanotubes; the same materials used to assemble the shimizu pyramid in Tokyo.

As for exactly how the pods will connect to the core; I don't know. The blue prints haven't been made public, he doesn't go on TV and reveal the secrets of his design. Wanna know why? Because he's not an idiot who would give away such valuable secrets.

So, other than materials, got any other complaints?

BTW, the very idea of a sky-scraper is wasteful.

  • OK so he will use one of the most toxically manufactured materials - carbon fiber - and he calls his building green. Listen if you want to buy the snake oil go ahead - but you cannot ignore basic principles in the process. Also, nano-tubes have not been developed yet on a large scale. For your information all towers are not wasteful. Zero Energy Tower in China is an example.

As for my complaints here is another one.

Separated floors means you have to weather proof every floor and ceiling. Waste.

  • I could be wrong about the carbon fibres. That's just my memory. But your complaint went from "too many materials" to "those materials aren't green enough". His tower will power itself, and will have enough surplus power to power a few other buildings. It puts it on equal or greater terms with that zero-energy tower in China, which, as a structure, is still wasteful (using all those materials to build a giant tower that will be used as nothing more than a penis symbol to other countries).

  • pretty awesome, I hope this is made!

  • It would be almost impossible to build but... if it's done, it'll be one stunning sight

  • It is... move. yes.

And..... people, administrator side, are would be wanted by psychology to move. I see.

Then..... cause nesessary of maintenance more, danger of electrical cable or sort of the other cutted off,

    And waste of energy.

  • Absolutely incomprehensible.

  • what?

  • That looks like a really bad idea hatched by artists who have no idea what that implies for structural design. What an inefficient way to build a building, seriously, when employees cant make living wages, companies have no business spending the money this would require to be safe. We are talking hundreds of times the cost of a building that could house more offices. NO way is this worth it, and the risk! wow Id be more shocked by their arrogance than impressed by its looks.

  • There's ery little risk involved. And because it's being built like a lego tower (each condo is built in a factory in Italy and will be assembled there like lego blocks), costs won't be very high. Plus, the building's rotating allows it to be totally self-powered, so it'll save a fortune on energy costs alone.

  • That's some good insight there longbow.

  • is that real?

  • I hope motion sickness won't be a problem. I've heard some people get motion sickness even in slow speeds.

  • q garcha

  • I think it is very smart and advanced. the building currently in construction in Dubai. it should be safe....it had been studied by smart people...like lindsay lohan

  • question

what if there was a emergency like a fire an they cant put it out because the building is rotating

  • they would have to drive in the circle lol

  • Moi aussi ^^

  • C super je connais ça grace à Science & vie junior.Hihi ac la music en + !

  • I think this will just be a faze in achitecture, good on this guy for pushing the boundary but to be honest i think this will get old very quickly, not that it wont be amazing to see it in real life but i think the overall idea will get old very fast and lose favour compared to other designs.

  • its gunna be too NOISYY

  • After watching this video, I am reminded of a quote from one of my favorite movies of all time: "Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should." - Jurassic Park As with many 'firsts' (The Titanic) some will get very rich, while many will sadly perish. In a fire, people will trip over their Mercedes parked in their garage room?!? I'm a Mechanical Engineer and you could not pay me enough to live in that death trap! =(

  • good insight. But I guess we will find out whether or not that rings true. I love that line from JP as well. If these buildings do work though it would be a major leap in technology. Think of entire cities generating their own power...

  • I have no problem with the buildings ability to generate their own power (even though I don't feel they will generate enough to power themselves let alone the city around them), but why does it need to change it's exterior shape? Are we now to the point in human society where we are willing to sacrifice our bodily safety for aesthetics or the latest fad or status? I know I will see this building again on a Breaking News report someday. Am I the only one who watched "The Towering Inferno"??? =(

  • And finally, the icing on the cake from hell, is to build it in the Middle East, the single most unstable part of the world! I guess nobody remembers 9/11 either. I don't care how rich the UAE happens to be, I know world geography. This structure is within shouting distance (or should I say cruise missile distance) distance away from Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and (best of all) Iran. Oh, please tell me where I can sign up to move my family and I into 'Terror Central'? Think people, THINK!!! =(

  • There's more chance of a non-muslim airline being highjacked than a muslim airline.

There's more chance of a major building (that isn't an embassy) being bombed in a Western country than a muslim one.

Muslims don't USUALLY kill other muslims.

Infact a muslim terrorist group warned for Muslims to stay away from the Beijing olympics for fear of terrorist attack.

  • You're kidding right? Almost everyday I wake up and turn on CNN and I can predict what will be in the news: the US 2008 election, some cute white girl has gone missing, Mother Nature is going crazy somewhere in the world and Muslim terrorists have blown something to Hell. And that "something" usually happens to be a civilian structure (usually located in Iraq, Afghanistan or Pakistan) containing many other innocient Muslims (men, women and children). So do you care to change your statement now?

  • you have no trust in modern engineering. just because its different it doesn't mean its unsafe. cynics like you have been proven wrong throughout human history. furthermore, the wind turbines seems it will be capable of generating more power than the building requires.

  • Why don't you tell that to the passengers on the Titanic...oh wait, you can't most of them died when "the unsinkable ship" SANK!!! Or how about the passengers of the Hindenburg...oh darn, same thing. You said, "I have no trust in modern engineering"? As I mentioned in my first post, I am a Mechanical Engineer, and I trust science very much...I must to do my job everyday. What I don't trust are companies who risk their customers lives for no reason other than increasing their profits. =(

  • If you are looking for failures, you will see failures. If you are looking for successes, you will see successes. What about the Empire State Building, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel System? These all seem to be doing just fine. I'm sure there are plenty of other examples as well. What evidence do you have that they are arrogantly ignoring safety standards? If there is evidence of this out there, post it, don't just put down innovation.

  • Very cute, but no thank you !

  • its the future of living: hybrid cars and rotating skyscrapers...nice =]

  • Around and around it goes like a merry go round.

  • living there will feel like you´re drunk everydays.

  • fine by me..

  • the max rotational speed is one revolution per hour, so its not that fast, slower than a rotating restaurant.

  • It took them one year to modify the design of this virtual video done in May 2007 and now have come up with one released in June 2008. The chief architect of this so called Dynamic Architecuture rotating skyscrapper has never even build one standstill skyscrapper in his life. Bit of story telling going on ? well its all Dubai !

  • next time speak english

  • wonder why gas is so price tag is $700 million

  • This would look great in fucking New Orleans

  • how will the windows get cleaned?

  • maybe they dont need cleaning ;)

  • Taga Andres Bonifacio college Dipolog City Electrical Engineering man ang ga Design Ana na Rotating skycraper under Engr.Joy Imperial Administration Batch 2005 "The Dont Disturb Boyz" Brodikssssssssss!

  • Ganun?? Sana sa pinas meron din! :)

  • WHY?

  • WHY NOT?

  • Did they change the name of Dubai to Vancouver??????? and when friend

  • i wouldnt call this a safe building...

  • Unless you're an architect it doesn't matter what you call it since neither one of us know enough to even make an educated guess on the matter.

  • where are they actually planning to build this?

  • dubai

  • Uhh....

  • The floor rotation is speeded up for demo purpose, they only rotate once every 90 minutes, tested to prevent noticing movement hence no nausea. Google search first than one will know.

  • Still, Uhh...

Is this a Proposed Building for consturictin?

  • nauseas anyone?

  • And the point of a turning skyscraper is what?

  • point is to have building which is unique, and the unique feature of a turning skyscraper is in the different views it can offer office and resendential users. The movement is very slow so one does not even feel it.

  • It is so odd that all these beautiful animations have chemtrails drawn in, yet there is no real pictures of any chemtrails or contrails that I can find in Dubai. Lots of dust, but no real jet trails. Odd.

  • lets secure the land

    lets secure the humains

    intel is the key

    NEED A TOP LOBBYIST ?

  • Go ahead check my channel

There are some awesome skyscrapers in my channel you 've never seen before

  • this would be just amazing to work in... i think.

  • how do you go betweeen levels if it is turning???

  • Inside there must be a fixed pillar with elevators in it

  • its says its wind powered cant you read?

  • This is beautiful, yes. But it's a more impressive waste of energy energy. :(

  • Won't it make people inside feel a bit sea sick? ;)

  • I reckon

  • Hahaha!!! Evrythin possible...

  • Nothing that impressive! The first spin building in the world was inaugurated in Curitiba (Brazil) long time ago. At the Suite Vollard, each floor independently rotates, offering a 360-degree view of Curitiba.

  • Nice building. How much for it? LOL

  • I read the Wall Street journal article on this tower that I believe is going up in Dubai (or is a possibility). It is really amazing but it would require a massive amount of energy to continuously move every floor which would be a waste. Change it to one rotation per day and then it becomes a lot more economical.

  • You have a point there LeMacMan. It wastes too much energy.

  • Haven't you read about that scysraper? Wind turbines produces 10 times larger amount of energy than all building use.

  • 10 times... are you sure about that?

  • I'm REALLY sure about that.

  • omfg imagine what power and energy is needed to move only one floor, but then the whole building Oô haha wind energy, where is such a wind

  • is da going 2 be even realy?

1 don't think that it going 2 be realy

1 think that if is then it going to be hard to made the machine 2 made the building move around and around

  • i don´t want have a flat in this XD

  • its like harry potter strairs all over again!

  • so...where is the fire escape?

  • Any idea how to fix it? :-)

  • i dont think that elevators were thought in -.-

  • wow!! amazing dubai..

  • odobett is right!!

  • would'nt it be nice if there was building that each floor can rotate? if there was, i would pay whatever to see the building even if it was in the other side of the world.

  • Excelent video!

We are deeply interested in green architecture

    and sustainable design

    Please check us out too!!

  • i would vomit every day

  • lol it is very very slow moving...

  • lol!! u got a point..

  • But it obviously can't twist around quick enough to look impressive - it'd be rather uncomfortable for the inhabitants!!

  • Let's see how the italians can do it... I can expect a thing until it's done, it looks way to over unrealistic to be true... and look at 1:27, how can they do that?!

  • holy crap...this is amazing! so everyone that lives there gets some serious panoramic views hahah. way to go, david fisher.

  • wow very interesting, is incredible..congrtulations dubai..

  • I feel to see the point in a building whoms floors can rotate.. BIG DEAL, it's just like 100 rotating restaurants, one on top of the other. Stupid Idea.

  • Fail*

  • maybe the idea that it generates power for an entire city block including the tower itself because of the wind turbines? being able to watch the sun set and rise in your apartment every once and a while? change views every day/hour? or only 90 construction workers and only 3 days of labor are necessary to construct a floor after the stem has been built? or because the building is unique? or people are trying to be creative and are trying to break trough standards and cliché's?

  • I will vomit there.....

  • I don't get it, is the people gonna be spinning too? throwing up everywhere? Lol

  • Its true ... and it will be built in Dubai

  • like a great penis

  • This has a remarkable resemblance to a metaphysical energy form, a connective "pillar/tower" carved in Rosslyn Chapel at Edinburgh. Viewing this triggers a few ideas that are new (to me) in 'energy management' in non physical levels. Backgrounds are also relevant.

  • that's pretty cool..but it's never goin to happen ...i for one would never step foot in it

  • how cool

  • Now that's the future :)

  • Haven't any of you ever been in a revolving restaurant? They make one revolution per hour .. it's so slow, you can barely feel it.

This is a brilliant idea. Plus, i hear it's going to be built in Dubai. They have plenty of money for it. I can't wait to see it in action.

  • looks cool, but its a Really bad idea. I would get very very sick if i were in a tower that was spinning around like that, especially if it was very windy outside, plus, how the hell would you get in? you would have to either chase the door around, or just wait for the wind to die down.

  • You must be blond right ?

  • Actually I'm a brown male, nice try though.

  • Hm ... my advise ... marry a blond !

  • fake

  • That would never work. The expense involved in making the central structure strong enough to support rotating floors would be enormous. Also, who wants to be spinning around like that? Just cover the building in solar panels, and stick a big windmill on top. K.I.S.S.

  • Yea...I agree with Atomixor. Pay attention to min 1.25 to 1.29..the tower actually SHEAR and STRETCH...Dude, that involve changing in the shape and size of the building. Think..the floors and storeys of the buildings would not change in shape right while under normal day operation...plus if your building is shearing...how are u going to build the lift? Twisted material..?

  • It is not shearing and stretching. That is just an optical illusion. The sections are doing nothing but rotating.

  • whats the puke factor of one of these things?
