This is totally dope. If your Apple IIGS had ethernet, it would be fast. Then you could get like a dozen apple IIGS and boot them, and they would all have a HUGE HDD from the MAC. That would solved the 32MB hard drive problem the IIGS has. Then all you would need to do is code a multiplayer game and have a APPLE IIGS LAN PARTY!
You don't need much. I'd say around 1.5-2mb should be good. I can only think of one game that requires over that, which is Wolfenstein 3D (you need 4MB!)
Very cool video Brian. I've read about the ability of ROM03 IIGS machines to netbook, but to actually see it running is very cool and strangely, not quite as slow as I thought it would be!
Yeah, only ROM03s will work with the version of Apple II setup that comes with Appleshare 3 (version 2.2), but system 6.0.1 came with version 3 of the Apple II setup which allows for ROM01 and ROM03 machines to communicate with the mac server. ROM00 is not compatible with any version.
I think netatalk on Linux can remote boot too. I used to use PCMacLan to share files with my IIgs. I had it online with Marinetti and its MacIP link layer too. Both were made possible with a Localtalk to Ethernet bridge.
Cool use for the Mac IIsi. It's the only Mac I've ever owned, and I inherited it from where I used to work. Maybe I'll find a use for the one I have some day, it's got 32MB of ram and a 40MB HDD and a 21" greyscale monitor.

What's the max ram of a ROM 01 IIgs? What amount of ram should I use in a IIgs if I want to run all of the commercial games?

Awesome stuff here, love videos like this! It's so fun getting old hardware working with other old hardware in a modern setting.
