I've been a fan since the black metal days, and like any good band they progressed and evolved. Just so happens that the mainstream likes what Behemoth is doing. Still though, there aren't many bands that really sound like they do.

I still don't agree. I know their older stuff, I'm actually a big fan of Zos Kia and Thelema. Now, they have a more death metal sound, which, I think, just appeals to more people than their blackened death and black metal sounds.
True, it is a factor, but not a very big one, imo. With each album they get better and better - The Apostasy was their best yet (again, imo). I think their success was just bound to happen. But maybe I'm just denying the inevitable, maybe they'll end up like Dimmu Borgir. :/

I know old Behemoth. And I can fairly say that they were not better back then. They got more technical and definitely more brutal, which I like. And apart from that, since Black Metal is far more famous than Death Metal (so at least in Europe) why should they shift their music in the way they did then, if they were just interested in fame? The trend you are describing fits for bands like Dimmu or Cradle, but, listening to The Apostasy, I cannot notice anything like that happening to Behemoth.
That you 'prefer' brutality is objective, not something which makes it better. And You can't be serious calling their new stuff better than the old, they 'used' to be technical, but with the new death metal approach they just started to produce their music better, but musically they went down a couple of notches. But maybe you can't appreciate music for what it really is and prefer high quality productions, even though the music is poorly composed. Sventevith and Grom are masterpieces.
And maybe everything you do is judging a band by its trve- and kvltness. You're not the first devoted black metal guy who condemns Behemoth because of their swift from BM to DM. I mean, mentioning the quality thing is pretty much of a hint, since i haven't even said something about the quality. you mostly listen to bm, and i mostly listen to dm. so this argument comes naturally, i guess. nevertheless, the point is, behemoth didn't change their style in order to become more famous.
Second: I love death metal, 'good' death metal like Vader and Decapitated, the Polish scene > most other DM in my opinion. Compared to those bands Behemoth is nothing, when it comes to DM. It does not take much of an ear to hear the exellence in old Behemoth, and how they've lost it the last couple of albums.
I think it is 'you' who can't listen to good BM because low production makes your ears bleed. Production is just the way it sounds, it does not equal the quality of the music.
Seriously dude, I've been listening to DM and BM for ages and I am able to differentiate between a good, but low produced album and a plain shit album. So don't try to argue that way, not going to work. ;) You should get over fact that these 'certainties which take not much to see/hear' are just representing your opinion and nothing else.
In terms of technical skill, maybe. I won't argue about things that I can't really judge due to my lack of knowledge about some instruments (I doubt you can judge 'em all). But music is just music, not a science. The sound of it should affect you and not what it is in comparison to similar artists in terms of, you know, numbers. Keep that in mind.
What I try to 'keep in mind' is that skill matters, if I want to listen to DM I don't go listen to JFAC now do I? Why wouldn't I want the best? I love Behemoth, and I like the new albums, I never said I didn't, but they're not the best DM band in the world.

This here is modern death metal, there's nothing black about it musically. Real black metal is bands like Deathspell Omega, Heresi, Ondskapt, Gorgoroth, Satanic Warmaster, Taake, Tsjuder, and countless other bands, like Vlad Tepes of the LLN movement.

I've been a fan since the black metal days, and like any good band they progressed and evolved. Just so happens that the mainstream likes what Behemoth is doing. Still though, there aren't many bands that really sound like they do.

Mainstream only means well-known just like Morbid Angel,Nile,Death,Zyklon,Krisiun,Opeth,Napalm Death,Suffocation,Vader etc.
Mainstream means popular music in own circles.

I think that, Behemoth deserved for popularity. They're doing, the same great job for over 15 years, and now they're reaping laures ov that.
Fu*ck that, they are goin' up in the new metal-mainstream. Their music is great, and that's the reason, why they're one ov the best black/death metal bands. They deservedly <<Conquer all>>!

Behemoth are a great band, but they're not gods.
They're in the metal mainstream, like JFAC (which they've already done many shows with). If you know Behemoths older stuff (they've been at it for about 15 years) you can tell what they're doing.
They're going mainstream: The videos, the singles, the promos, it is pretty obvious by now.

I still don't agree. I know their older stuff, I'm actually a big fan of Zos Kia and Thelema. Now, they have a more death metal sound, which, I think, just appeals to more people than their blackened death and black metal sounds.

True, it is a factor, but not a very big one, imo. With each album they get better and better - The Apostasy was their best yet (again, imo). I think their success was just bound to happen. But maybe I'm just denying the inevitable, maybe they'll end up like Dimmu Borgir. :/

Maybe not soundwise, but Behemoth is getting there fame-wise. Exposure is the keyword here, they've been doing this for 15 years and now all of the sudden they're known throughout the world (not to mention the posing Nergal has been doing for various metal magazines).

Because it attracts sceneworms, and as soon as a band gets just a little known they start altering their sound to attract a wider audience, and they're that they're improving, believe me when I say that old Behemoth totally >>>> new Behemoth.

I know old Behemoth. And I can fairly say that they were not better back then. They got more technical and definitely more brutal, which I like. And apart from that, since Black Metal is far more famous than Death Metal (so at least in Europe) why should they shift their music in the way they did then, if they were just interested in fame? The trend you are describing fits for bands like Dimmu or Cradle, but, listening to The Apostasy, I cannot notice anything like that happening to Behemoth.

That you 'prefer' brutality is objective, not something which makes it better. And You can't be serious calling their new stuff better than the old, they 'used' to be technical, but with the new death metal approach they just started to produce their music better, but musically they went down a couple of notches. But maybe you can't appreciate music for what it really is and prefer high quality productions, even though the music is poorly composed. Sventevith and Grom are masterpieces.

And maybe everything you do is judging a band by its trve- and kvltness. You're not the first devoted black metal guy who condemns Behemoth because of their swift from BM to DM. I mean, mentioning the quality thing is pretty much of a hint, since i haven't even said something about the quality. you mostly listen to bm, and i mostly listen to dm. so this argument comes naturally, i guess. nevertheless, the point is, behemoth didn't change their style in order to become more famous.

Ok, first of all; I am NOT a kvlt-fag.
Second: I love death metal, 'good' death metal like Vader and Decapitated, the Polish scene > most other DM in my opinion. Compared to those bands Behemoth is nothing, when it comes to DM. It does not take much of an ear to hear the exellence in old Behemoth, and how they've lost it the last couple of albums.

Seriously dude, I've been listening to DM and BM for ages and I am able to differentiate between a good, but low produced album and a plain shit album. In terms of technical skill, maybe. I won't argue about things that I can't really judge due to my lack of knowledge about some instruments (I doubt you can judge 'em all). But music is just music, not a science. The sound of it should affect you and not what it is in comparison to similar artists in terms of, you know, numbers. Keep that in mind.

What I try to 'keep in mind' is that skill matters, if I want to listen to DM I don't go listen to JFAC now do I? Why wouldn't I want the best? I love Behemoth, and I like the new albums, I never said I didn't, but they're not the best DM band in the world.

Of course you can demand the best. But best at what? That's what I mean. If best for you only means technical skill, ok. For me it means that the music itself should be good (as far as the sound, songwriting etc. are concerned). That's a difference. And yeah, I've never said that Behemoth is the best DM band in the world. ;) I just don't like people condemning them because they're becoming famous. That's what your opinion seemed to be like.

This here is modern death metal, there's nothing black about it musically. Real black metal is bands like Deathspell Omega, Heresi, Ondskapt, Gorgoroth, Satanic Warmaster, Taake, Tsjuder, and countless other bands, like Vlad Tepes of the LLN movement.
