Sigurdardottir? that's not so hard. dottir means daughter, so this is basically Sigurdar's daughter. Icelandic almost always end with dottir or son. break them down thusly, and they become easy to pronounce.

well, I meant to say, her father is probably not named Sigurdar, but at some point in her lineage, some guy was named that. In iceland, lineage is important. Many people there have royal blood even, albeit a bit watered out by now. Same with sweden. In norway they lean towards placenames or the name of their farm. and english surnames got this profession-thing going on, like Thatcher and Cartwright and all that stuff.

erh, I have to correct myself. Iceland is one of the few countries where surnames change with each generation. I had to look it up :P it's called Matronymic surnaming. I was thinking more of Norway where names like Anderssen (-sen = son) tend to stick with the family for several generations.
