So these nice, intelligent kids, are brought up to NEVER disobey, to NEVER leave the religion because this would be the same as them leavinng the community, and they are then looked down on. I have SO MANY Atheist friends who still go to church and tell others they are christian just to avoid persecution from their so-called religious family. Bottom line- Religion should not be tied to any other aspect of living because it is not needed. This is just an extra personal belief.
No, these mega-churches tie community into religion, when this is not morally right. I've had kids spit on me, scratch my car, and even burn their religious symbols into my dad's lawn because I am not part of their church, and therefore(in their minds, their sick, deluded minds) not part of the community: an outsider : less of a person.

"everyone should watch the movie so they can attack atheists and create another crusades" 99% of christians ARE atheists! Any "christian" who supports death penalty or war has NEVER READ the bible. jesus says "love thy neighbour" "do not hate your enemy" "do not kill" all christians go against these.
Father Reginald Foster senior vatican preist says about the bible "these are all nice stories" So that being said why cant you just live your life in accordance to the bible instead living in fear of an invisible parent in the sky who says "do it or I'll fucking spank you"?
I don't think being disillusioned with the Catholic church would have much impact on whether or not you can believe in the supernatural. One is an emotional thing, the other an intellectual. No matter how religious your parents are you will still, notwithstanding a high-level brainwash, come to the same conclusion somewhere in your life. The conclusion you come to will be depend on your proneness to suggestion. Some people, no matter how many times they are fearmongered, just aren't suggestible.

Isn't church where you learn the dinosaurs became extinct because there wasn't enough room on Noah's Ark? Isn't church where your learn that other faiths are wrong but yours is right? Isn't church where you learn to kill people inderectly? Is church aslo where you learn about Santa Clause? Wait, scratch the last one, we all know he's a fairytale! ; )

Can someone post the timestamps of where he's showing the ridiculous part of Religilous? I stopped listening to the jesus brain washing at about 3 mins.
@blah2472 No shit! This is just a 9 minute monologue of preachy babbling. I can actually picture this clown talking to himself like this in the mirror every other day. I kept waiting for him to get to the point. He never did.
Regarding your experience as a Catholic, I just have to say it sounds like you did not have a true Catholic experience. I did not either while growing up, but I studied the faith after college, and things started snapping in place. Catholicism is deep, rich, and beautiful. Catholicism is not "just a Sunday thing," but it is something that should be lived every day. A person could go to Mass every day. There are other prayer services.
"The Mass has ended, go in peace to love and serve the Lord"
I find it most christianity as you ready a good book and you very much say that book is real cause someone tells you its real. You are raised by people who say "oh it exists cause its in the book" yet they never question it. I don't have a definite belief on whether god exists or not, but i believe he is some what made to give people hope about death. It still isn't the realisitic perspective. You do live and you do die. And many people's lives are cut short. Carpe Diem my friends carpe diem
Maybe some may answer:"we feel it thru human expression".But ill make a better example. Imagine that a person was born completely numb, as in in a comma throughout his life, then grows up and die in the same state, but wasnt able to communicate his entire life, then dies, but that doesnt mean that his thoughts, feelings, whishes never existed. I guess thats a point. Cheers
QC in regarding of how to explain god's existance, i will put it this way , as i can metaphore it: some say: "can you see air?"and so but not much stronger to me. People always tend to complain they dont see god as a physical thing, so thus they claim he doesnt exist. Id put a better question: can you physically see or perceive human thought?
For a child religion is a set of fairy tales. It's only when they grow up they need to decide whether or not they continue needing an imaginary friend.
Where's the critique of Religulous? This is preaching and not delivering facts I expected from the title.
The two are not totally mutually exclusive. We are teaching her to be a reliable, responsible, independent little woman. But she also needs to understand that she was created by a loving God, and that there is more to life than what the world tries to sell you. We are responsible people, go to work, pay the bills, but we also know who is ultimately in control. That humility is what we are teaching our daughter.
@QuestionChrist I didn't click on this video to criticize, but well. . .
Isn't the way you raise her actually giving her a sense of arrogance by telling her that she's somehow more special than others because of what she believes?
Why does someone have to be in control? That implies civility and morality ultimately come from a supreme being. Again, that seems awfuly un-humble.
Personally, I think religion is child abuse. But as long as she doesn't drink the Kool-Aid it's okay.
@QuestionChrist You contradict, thus negate, your own point when you say, "but she also needs to understand that she was created by a loving God, and that there is more to life than what the WORLD TRIES TO SELL YOU." - You are doing the exact same thing to your daughter. It's called indoctrination - you are also SELLING YOUR RELIGIOUS BELIEFS to your daughter...or are you not part of the world? Great job disproving your own point.
@QuestionChrist "We are responsible people, go to work, pay the bills, but we also know who is ultimately in control. That humility is what we are teaching our daughter."
You're confusing "responsibility" with being "completely delusional and irresponsible". There's no humility involved with accepting dogma without thinking, only gullibility.
ok QC, I gave you almost6 minutes of my life, fair ammount of time, and you gave me NOTHING back. I stopped watching exactly at 5:57, when you point your finger at us and say "realize he´s the one and only true god".... Exactly the same absurd imposing thing Maher brilliantly criticizes...
I think I needed to be more clearer, but I said that this was just an introduction. I would ask you to check out the videos that followed this one. It should be enough for you to chew on!
Religion exists because people are unwilling to accept the simple fact that we, as humans, are tiny and insignificant in the wide, universal scheme of things, and they can't just deal with the possibility that once you're dead, you're gone, period. Boo-hoo...
Yea I agree, Bill Maher is very funny, however, he is very serious about exposing religion/superstition for what it is and the harm it has done to our society.
and if you weigh your odds and see how life and the world would be without religions, you would come to the sad understanding, that there would be much for less racism, wars, ongoing discussion about who what and when.. don't get me wrong... being honest, not killing people, having a family with kids and loving them, you can do all those things without religion
And for religion(s), it would go terribly bad, if science would evolve more, since it would explain more than the all the verses and quotes from the bible, which is written as a fairy book, and in the new testament stapeled together with other fictions from some monks... believe in what you want, what can be proven, is somethin else!!
If you really believe in every thing you say, puff.. i don't know who will help you. Of course there are millions who believe the same, and some other millions believing "kind of" the same... but get the facts right. when it comes to science, science can not evolve with the religion being so strong.
Nature, which is something He has created, you are showing your inability, no, your absolute refusal, to entertain the concept that there is an almighty God who is not enslaved to time and laws of nature, because He created these things. Paul, and the rest of the bible, clearly show that there have been people even from the beginning, who refuse to do this. Thanks for the discussion. God Bless.
If you assert that God created nature, are you saying he took some scattered existing materials from the already existing universe and assembled them? Which raises the question: What, then, does to create mean?
21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things." Now, I feel that sums up what is happening here. When people refuse to see God in his creation, when you limit God by reducing him to a byproduct of nature.....
Well this all proves it worked. Religion controls the simple minded peasants who trust in a good tale as long as it's they get a cookie with it from time to time and hold out their arms for the chains of bondage and are happy to remain servants of those THINKERS that might provide them a living.
This is what is known as "general revelation". Paul speaks of this in Romans For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse..cont
What i find hilarious is how a bunch of otherwise intelligent adults believe there is this all-powerful entity that sees all, knows all, judges all, who enables you to cleanse your sins every Sunday by praying to Him, and then, when you've left the earth in the physical form, you will stand before Him and await His judgement as to whether or not He will open the pearly-white gates of Heaven. Now how assinine does that sound?
A little less than there was a big bang for no reason that came out of nothing and that every living thing came out of the same primordial soup by chance and random. That there is no intellectual design behind the most intricate and beautiful things in nature. If you can do that than you have more faith than I do.
The problem of what caused God to create the Universe pretty much means that there were other things going on before God created the universe and this is a contradiction! So, it cannot be true that God created the Universe. It is also true that God cannot have created Time - in order for time to be created it must be finite, which of course it can't be, because the creation of time must have occurred before time, which is not possible.
This is a problem if we want to believe in standard monotheism - for it cannot be that a god created the universe. If god did not create Time, or the Universe, what else can we extrapolate that it did not create? It must be the things that are properties of Time and of the Universe and the things that defined those. So, such things as the Dimensions of the Universe, major physical constants and the mass/energy sum total were not created by God.
God(s), if any exist, must be therefore be products of the Universe, perhaps evolving during the initial expansion of the universe? Our god would be more local, not infinite and not omniscient. Omniscience requires a certain non-physical nature, and as god is a product of the universe it could not be omnipotent, omniscient or omnipresent. I.e., not all-knowing all-powerful or all-seeing.
Now stick that in your pipe and smoke it Bible boy!!!
The problem with your argument is that you insist on limiting God! If God created everything, why could he not be outside the realm of space and time since he created it? I agree God can not be omni anything if he is a product of the universe. Now I don't pretend to know how it went down, just that God is the creator because there is sufficient evidence in creation to point to there being an intelligent designer of all of this....Cont
also, this guy is saying that all christians should watch this movie because it will basically help Christians with counter arguments about the movie...oh...so your just going to say something and every one else will believe it because it is spoken from a christian tongue.pathetic.
Also,he complains about this movie taking away someone faith.seriously, the world would be a MUCH better place without religion.think of all the wars that will end. For What kind of religion condones a killing squad!?
I was raised methodist..but i hate religion and christianity...this movie makes a WHOLE LOT of good points....and you Christians want to get all pissed off because you believe in God and dont like it when people "dis" on your religion...
take it from me... if GOD WAS real...dont you think all types of christainity would beleive the same thing... God is an illusion and Christianity is all based on fear of burning in a hell that doesnt even theoretically exist... Religion is just plain silly
Actually what I really get upset with is that Maher presents things in his movie in a dishonest way. As I will talk about later on, Maher set most of the people up who he was to talk to under false pretenses, trying to make people look like baffoons. He never went near someone who could have given him some of the answers he was "seeking". I though the movie was very entertaining, but I also recognize how destructive it is when someone puts stuff out there that has been shown to be discredited
We are talking about people who believe in a man/god who was his own father and rose from the dead, like a zombie. I just don't see why we have to take Christian beliefs seriously and still call them sane. Any person who believed that THEY were the son of god would obviously be crazy, right? I see no difference between hardcore religious nutter beliefs and schizophrenia.
Disappointed so far, Typical religious response takeing Bill's mothers acceptance towards her Husbands wishes to have their kids raised catholic like him and turning it into her "sending" them to church with him. This shows weakness in this point of view and gives me doubt to the quality of what your future points of view in the rest of the video's in this series will be. I will at least view the 2nd one but its gonna have to get "real" (less word twisting) for me to continiue after that.
...also about the 4 year old and the praying, Young minds like hers believe everything. Spongebob is just as real as Jesus is just as real as Barbie is just as real as....
And he shouldnt take religion out on his children as hard... She will find her own faith in her own way. another thing,he speeks of the world telling lies. ...the world doesnt tell lies, people do. And if people where somehow made from God...Dont you think god must be a lier himself,or dont you think that, if people are so fucked up,that god is fucked up. Chistians are so crazy...come on now people! you were NOT made from God...you were made by your parents...its called reproduction
9 Minutes of waiting for you to make a relevant point? Please don't pretend your video's have a subject if all you're going to do is film a commercial for commercial religion.
PS.
Give me your daughter for 12 months and I'll return you a child that prays to stuffed toys to save her mother. The fact that you've managed to brainwash an infant is hardly something to congratulate yourself over.
Sorry, but I thought I made it clear that this was just the beginning of the video series. If you want something that you might find a little more substantive, check out part 2. As for "brainwashing" my child, I understand that you feel that way. The problem with your scenario is that you would have no historical documents to back your claims. Jesus was a real person, who was crucified, based on historical documents outside of the bible.......
My point was that you suggested a topic in the title of this video. People click on a title and expect content relating to that title. If you want to spend an hour promoting Jeebus, that's up to you. But at least name your video's honestly.
I clearly say that this is just the beginning of a LONG series. Again, please see my next video, I would love to hear what you have to say on it. Thanks.
Jesus is the only figure in the major world religions who claimed he was God, and there is more circumstantial evidence that points to Jesus being who says he was, than not. So if my daughter comes up after talking to you and says "Daddy, this man says I should pray to the stuffed animal" , I could show her why her faith shouldn't be in something that she can't test. Jesus doesn't want us to blindly follow him. I'm grounding my kids in faith so they can handle the lies that this world sells
I love it when Jesus people attempt to play guitar music to show how much they relate to the kids, and say words like "dude." You are so one of us.
But don't pretend that you pity Bill Maher, that even though he's a "cool dude," he's somehow "sad" because he's not enslaved to the same kind of nonsense you are. I think he's doing fine, thanks. And I don't say Christianity is nonsense to be mean, but because it is. Time to grow up.
not to be mean i use to be into druidism and wicca myself, but somtimes people say they are pagan and have no idea what it means, and that pisses me off
if everybody is right. everybody is wrong. That automatically breeds doubt in every single persons mind. who is god your god my god saddams god, osamas god, your dogs god, my gerbils god.. dude we are all animals and we are all gonna die. church was invented to control people. IN A GOOD way. dont get me wrong i doubt that the world would be as good as it is if there was no religion but at the same time i doubt it would be as bad as it were if there werent religion, because every one is false.
Thanks for your comment! I am, as we speak, finishing the next video in this "series". I guess that wasn't clear in this video. I have many videos coming that refute the distortions and flat out lies that Mr. Maher peddles in his movie. Stay tuned!
great vid. but have to say, when your weak, (and we all are at 1 time or another) and you rely on god to save you. your just doing what athiests do.. you look inwards for strength. athiests look to themselves.. you do the same thing. you just add the word god.
. I find it interesting that you think your children should be taught these teachings at such an early age. I see that as brainwashing. Bill Maher had many great arguments, and if after watching that movie, your still not jarred out of your parochial thinking, I am sure I won't have any impact with my words. I have to say, I think most Christians are truly afraid of mortality (non existence).
How exactly is Religilous rediculous? You never mentioned any relevant fact to why it is rediculous. Based on Bill Maher's upbringing? Wow what a stretch! The fact that he had open minded, intelligent parents make me appreciate him even more (especially after he dedicates the movie to his recently deceased mother). You were right about one thing, Bill Maher is SMART and FUNNY!!!
Hi Lou, You're right, I really haven't explained yet why Bill Maher's movie is ridiculous. But I also explained that this is just the beginning of a very long series. So hang tight. I'm just getting started.
You do realize your video is 9 minutes long! How long is the series? Longer than the movie itself? How do you think his lack of religious teaching is so important that you spend most of your time speaking about it? Your basis becomes questionable and irrelevant at best. continued....
When I came to the understanding that believing in a god or religion is delusional (after much research and scrutiny) it was sort of like being born again. In fact, in my opinion, Christians and Non-theist have that in common. Unfortunately I think your bound by psychological sanctions and I hope (not pray) that someday before your kids are infected with the delusion virus, you will come to a greater understanding of your world and reality. Good luck!
I agree, the Protestants are MUCH better at brainwashing than the Catholics. Fortunately I was raised Catholic, although I value reality, and evidence to much for it to have taken hold regardless.
My only criticism of the film was that he went after soft targets (average Christians where I live in Alabama), except for Francis Collins who he made look like a fool, but if he'd interviewed "serious Christians" (oxymoron?) it wouldn't have been funny.
I totally agree with the point that he went after soft targets. I will address that in my next video. I know he was trying to make it funny, but besides that, all his arguments would have been decimated by people who could truly defend the faith. Thanks for your comment.
"all his arguments would have been decimated by people who could truly defend the faith."
If he hadn't been talking to the people he was talking to he wouldn't have asked the questions he did, AND besides being funny the point of his movie was to show how ignorant the average Christian is regarding Christianity. It wasn't to show how polished apologists are. The best way to get a real picture of any organization is to talk to it's members, not it's public relations people.
I agree again! thats why most Christians have to know why they believe what they believe. I want to see all the common everyday christians to be able to articulate why they believe and why those who are lost should believe it as well.
In my opinion if they learned enough to "articulate why they believe" they wouldn't believe, or at least a large percentage wouldn't
Most atheists I know (those who were Christians) became atheist as a result of looking for reasons to believe, and particularly ways to defend their faith against the criticism brought up by non-believers.
I think the problem that many people who are searching have is that they want ABSOLUTE proof. And that doesn't exist. What we have instead is enough sources to show that Jesus was indeed an historical person, that he was crucified. We have the gospels written by people who were directly in contact with eyewitnesses to the events described. Men who were quick to desert Jesus and then when they realized he was indeed the savior, went out and would not be stopped under threat of death...
We don't have absolute proof of the big bang, but most scientists accept it as the most reasonable explanation for the origin of the universe.
The problem is that we have ZERO scientific evidence of ANYTHING of a supernatural nature EVER having occurred.
I won't get into a debate over the historicity of Jesus which I think is minimal at best. For sake of argument let's assume the evidence for Jesus' existence is on a par with the evidence for Socrates, which is how many historians
describe it. First of all I don't need to believe he existed in order to appreciate, and accept the things he said. Jesus on the other hand must have existed, and must have done, and said the things he has attributed to him for Christianity to exist.
Secondly IF claims were made that Socrates had done things like walked on water, raised from the dead, or was born of a virgin, such claims would be dismissed out of hand by both secular, and Christian historians.
as a former catholic i just think the church is morally bankrupt and spiritually bankrupt, spirituality in the christian realm i mean. i would agree with your point that if both parents are not behind a single discipline or idea or rules, it does not help the cause. great point.
Your 3 arguments to support your statement that "Religulous is Ridiculous":
1. Bill Maher is raised catholic; catholics are prone to become atheist.
2. Bill Maher was raised by mixed religious parents.
3. Bill Maher went only to church on Sunday.
You 'proofed' how Bill Maher could become atheist, not the ridiculousness of the statements in his film.

Id put a better question: can you physically see or perceive human thought?
raxotube 1 year ago
For a child religion is a set of fairy tales. It's only when they grow up they need to decide whether or not they continue needing an imaginary friend.
Where's the critique of Religulous? This is preaching and not delivering facts I expected from the title.
StopSpamming1 2 years ago
I find it shocking that you as a father are proud of the fact that your child rather relies on a invisible man than on herself.

QuestionChrist 2 years ago
@QuestionChrist this is old, but she was not created by god, she was created by you and your wife. You dont need god to teach humility
ZetaSimsoy 1 year ago
@QuestionChrist I didn't click on this video to criticize, but well. . .
Isn't the way you raise her actually giving her a sense of arrogance by telling her that she's somehow more special than others because of what she believes?
Why does someone have to be in control? That implies civility and morality ultimately come from a supreme being. Again, that seems awfuly un-humble.
Personally, I think religion is child abuse. But as long as she doesn't drink the Kool-Aid it's okay.

@QuestionChrist Ok prove it.

Great job disproving your own point.
taknidentity1 1 year ago

IMHO, this is crap.

Religion exists because people are unwilling to accept the simple fact that we, as humans, are tiny and insignificant in the wide, universal scheme of things, and they can't just deal with the possibility that once you're dead, you're gone, period. Boo-hoo...
dreamdasher 2 years ago 2
Yea I agree, Bill Maher is very funny, however, he is very serious about exposing religion/superstition for what it is and the harm it has done to our society.

There are few things as boring or tasteless as people who are too young with too much religion.
Riddle me this; even if there is a one true god of the Universe as you say, why should I worship him?
p.s. Can't rely on yourself? Good life lesson there.

and if you weigh your odds and see how life and the world would be without religions, you would come to the sad understanding, that there would be much for less racism, wars, ongoing discussion about who what and when.. don't get me wrong... being honest, not killing people, having a family with kids and loving them, you can do all those things without religion
hermondito 2 years ago
people will allways find a justification to kill each other, religion or no.

And for religion(s), it would go terribly bad, if science would evolve more, since it would explain more than the all the verses and quotes from the bible, which is written as a fairy book, and in the new testament stapeled together with other fictions from some monks... believe in what you want, what can be proven, is somethin else!!
hermondito 2 years ago
If you really believe in every thing you say, puff.. i don't know who will help you. Of course there are millions who believe the same, and some other millions believing "kind of" the same... but get the facts right. when it comes to science, science can not evolve with the religion being so strong.

Nature, which is something He has created, you are showing your inability, no, your absolute refusal, to entertain the concept that there is an almighty God who is not enslaved to time and laws of nature, because He created these things. Paul, and the rest of the bible, clearly show that there have been people even from the beginning, who refuse to do this. Thanks for the discussion. God Bless.
QuestionChrist 2 years ago
Hey QC;
If you assert that God created nature, are you saying he took some scattered existing materials from the already existing universe and assembled them? Which raises the question: What, then, does to create mean?
nogogma 2 years ago
21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things." Now, I feel that sums up what is happening here. When people refuse to see God in his creation, when you limit God by reducing him to a byproduct of nature.....
QuestionChrist 2 years ago

Now how assinine does that sound?
quazimutato 2 years ago
A little less than there was a big bang for no reason that came out of nothing and that every living thing came out of the same primordial soup by chance and random. That there is no intellectual design behind the most intricate and beautiful things in nature. If you can do that than you have more faith than I do.
QuestionChrist 2 years ago
The problem of what caused God to create the Universe pretty much means that there were other things going on before God created the universe and this is a contradiction! So, it cannot be true that God created the Universe. It is also true that God cannot have created Time - in order for time to be created it must be finite, which of course it can't be, because the creation of time must have occurred before time, which is not possible.
quazimutato 2 years ago
This is a problem if we want to believe in standard monotheism - for it cannot be that a god created the universe. If god did not create Time, or the Universe, what else can we extrapolate that it did not create? It must be the things that are properties of Time and of the Universe and the things that defined those. So, such things as the Dimensions of the Universe, major physical constants and the mass/energy sum total were not created by God.
quazimutato 2 years ago
God(s), if any exist, must be therefore be products of the Universe, perhaps evolving during the initial expansion of the universe? Our god would be more local, not infinite and not omniscient. Omniscience requires a certain non-physical nature, and as god is a product of the universe it could not be omnipotent, omniscient or omnipresent. I.e., not all-knowing all-powerful or all-seeing.
Now stick that in your pipe and smoke it Bible boy!!!
quazimutato 2 years ago
The problem with your argument is that you insist on limiting God! If God created everything, why could he not be outside the realm of space and time since he created it? I agree God can not be omni anything if he is a product of the universe. Now I don't pretend to know how it went down, just that God is the creator because there is sufficient evidence in creation to point to there being an intelligent designer of all of this....Cont

IndestructibleVirus 2 years ago
Actually what I really get upset with is that Maher presents things in his movie in a dishonest way. As I will talk about later on, Maher set most of the people up who he was to talk to under false pretenses, trying to make people look like baffoons. He never went near someone who could have given him some of the answers he was "seeking". I though the movie was very entertaining, but I also recognize how destructive it is when someone puts stuff out there that has been shown to be discredited
QuestionChrist 2 years ago
He was definantly not trying to make people look like a bafoon...he was making a point about relion being a bafoon.
He probably wasnt seeking answers...he's a very free spirited man who doesnt let religion drag him down...
It was a good movie indeed.
People put stuff out there to be heard...maybe that person is better off without religion...maybe she/he is much happier and content with ones self...
all im saying is that some of the stuff in the bible really makes no sence.
IndestructibleVirus 2 years ago
We are talking about people who believe in a man/god who was his own father and rose from the dead, like a zombie. I just don't see why we have to take Christian beliefs seriously and still call them sane. Any person who believed that THEY were the son of god would obviously be crazy, right? I see no difference between hardcore religious nutter beliefs and schizophrenia.
akinadownhillace 2 years ago
Disappointed so far, Typical religious response takeing Bill's mothers acceptance towards her Husbands wishes to have their kids raised catholic like him and turning it into her "sending" them to church with him. This shows weakness in this point of view and gives me doubt to the quality of what your future points of view in the rest of the video's in this series will be. I will at least view the 2nd one but its gonna have to get "real" (less word twisting) for me to continiue after that.

Apathyist 2 years ago
Sorry, but I thought I made it clear that this was just the beginning of the video series. If you want something that you might find a little more substantive, check out part 2. As for "brainwashing" my child, I understand that you feel that way. The problem with your scenario is that you would have no historical documents to back your claims. Jesus was a real person, who was crucified, based on historical documents outside of the bible.......
QuestionChrist 2 years ago
My point was that you suggested a topic in the title of this video. People click on a title and expect content relating to that title. If you want to spend an hour promoting Jeebus, that's up to you. But at least name your video's honestly.

I clearly say that this is just the beginning of a LONG series. Again, please see my next video, I would love to hear what you have to say on it. Thanks.
QuestionChrist 2 years ago
Jesus is the only figure in the major world religions who claimed he was God, and there is more circumstantial evidence that points to Jesus being who says he was, than not. So if my daughter comes up after talking to you and says "Daddy, this man says I should pray to the stuffed animal" , I could show her why her faith shouldn't be in something that she can't test. Jesus doesn't want us to blindly follow him. I'm grounding my kids in faith so they can handle the lies that this world sells
QuestionChrist 2 years ago
I love it when Jesus people attempt to play guitar music to show how much they relate to the kids, and say words like "dude." You are so one of us.
But don't pretend that you pity Bill Maher, that even though he's a "cool dude," he's somehow "sad" because he's not enslaved to the same kind of nonsense you are. I think he's doing fine, thanks. And I don't say Christianity is nonsense to be mean, but because it is. Time to grow up.

i think Bill is more playing on the crazy fundamentalist types of the religions he talks about in the movie.

great vid. but have to say, when your weak, (and we all are at 1 time or another) and you rely on god to save you. your just doing what athiests do.. you look inwards for strength. athiests look to themselves.. you do the same thing. you just add the word god.

i like your video. 1st 4mins totally say what bill maher was questioning.
"i embrace doubt. it makes you stronger. You investigate and find that its true."
what if you investigate it.. and find that its false?
AirThief 2 years ago
Loutube2006 2 years ago 8
How exactly is Religilous rediculous? You never mentioned any relevant fact to why it is rediculous. Based on Bill Maher's upbringing? Wow what a stretch! The fact that he had open minded, intelligent parents make me appreciate him even more (especially after he dedicates the movie to his recently deceased mother). You were right about one thing, Bill Maher is SMART and FUNNY!!!
Loutube2006 2 years ago
Hi Lou, You're right, I really haven't explained yet why Bill Maher's movie is ridiculous. But I also explained that this is just the beginning of a very long series. So hang tight. I'm just getting started.
QuestionChrist 2 years ago
You do realize your video is 9 minutes long! How long is the series? Longer than the movie itself? How do you think his lack of religious teaching is so important that you spend most of your time speaking about it? Your basis becomes questionable and irrelevant at best. continued....
Loutube2006 2 years ago
When I came to the understanding that believing in a god or religion is delusional (after much research and scrutiny) it was sort of like being born again. In fact, in my opinion, Christians and Non-theist have that in common. Unfortunately I think your bound by psychological sanctions and I hope (not pray) that someday before your kids are infected with the delusion virus, you will come to a greater understanding of your world and reality. Good luck!

I could go on and on. But the bottom line is that there is no "smoking gun". But most things in our lives are not proven to that point of certainty.
QuestionChrist 2 years ago
I agree, the Protestants are MUCH better at brainwashing than the Catholics. Fortunately I was raised Catholic, although I value reality, and evidence to much for it to have taken hold regardless.
My only criticism of the film was that he went after soft targets (average Christians where I live in Alabama), except for Francis Collins who he made look like a fool, but if he'd interviewed "serious Christians" (oxymoron?) it wouldn't have been funny.
TheNakedAtheist 2 years ago
I totally agree with the point that he went after soft targets. I will address that in my next video. I know he was trying to make it funny, but besides that, all his arguments would have been decimated by people who could truly defend the faith. Thanks for your comment.
QuestionChrist 2 years ago
"all his arguments would have been decimated by people who could truly defend the faith."
If he hadn't been talking to the people he was talking to he wouldn't have asked the questions he did, AND besides being funny the point of his movie was to show how ignorant the average Christian is regarding Christianity. It wasn't to show how polished apologists are. The best way to get a real picture of any organization is to talk to it's members, not it's public relations people.
TheNakedAtheist 2 years ago
I agree again! thats why most Christians have to know why they believe what they believe. I want to see all the common everyday christians to be able to articulate why they believe and why those who are lost should believe it as well.
QuestionChrist 2 years ago
In my opinion if they learned enough to "articulate why they believe" they wouldn't believe, or at least a large percentage wouldn't
Most atheists I know (those who were Christians) became atheist as a result of looking for reasons to believe, and particularly ways to defend their faith against the criticism brought up by non-believers.
TheNakedAtheist 2 years ago
I think the problem that many people who are searching have is that they want ABSOLUTE proof. And that doesn't exist. What we have instead is enough sources to show that Jesus was indeed an historical person, that he was crucified. We have the gospels written by people who were directly in contact with eyewitnesses to the events described. Men who were quick to desert Jesus and then when they realized he was indeed the savior, went out and would not be stopped under threat of death...
QuestionChrist 2 years ago
We don't have absolute proof of the big bang, but most scientists accept it as the most reasonable explanation for the origin of the universe.
The problem is that we have ZERO scientific evidence of ANYTHING of a supernatural nature EVER having occurred.
I won't get into a debate over the historicity of Jesus which I think is minimal at best. For sake of argument let's assume the evidence for Jesus' existence is on a par with the evidence for Socrates, which is how many historians
(cont)
TheNakedAtheist 2 years ago
(cont)
describe it.
TheNakedAtheist 2 years ago
as a former catholic i just think the church is morally bankrupt and spiritually bankrupt, spirituality in the christian realm i mean. i would agree with your point that if both parents are not behind a single discipline or idea or rules, it does not help the cause. great point.
