this was my parents song my fathers nickname was jack and he said my mother was his queen , sadly my mother died young so this makes me think fondly of her xx
I have this song filed under "My Music" on my desk top. Even though I have it on the old "LP's", on the old "45" and on various CD's I still listen to it on my computer a lot while I'm checking/answering E-mails and other work. It is definitely a song and singer, anyone who loves "OLD" country and "OLD" Rock n' Roll, would want to have handy. Another great one, from that era was DAVID HOUSTON's "ALMOST PERSUADED"
This was the first song i heard early one morning actually woke me for school i love music ever since I agree bring it ALL back ,to think i am 64 now and it still send shivers down my spine .Wow
@hisssed this song was issued in 1957 then reissued in 1963. I was 4 in 57 but remember it playing on radio very well. siblings and parents always had music going around me.
@dicktuttle Same thing happend to me in 66, the song was "Sitting on the dock of the bay by Ottis Redding", should of stayed with her in Auckland NZ instead of heading back to the UK, love these sentimental oldies, this one by Ned is a killer.
Memories, Ned lived across the street from us in Camarillo Ca. growing up as kids. Really enjoy the song still today. One day I hope to write a song as good as Ned. God bless, Bobby.
my uncle used to sing this song every saturday nite when we had friends round for a good old glesga (glasgow) knees up,he was always pissed,(i think he was my uncle,i had loads of uncles???great memories of time gone bye
loved this song by ned always thought it was the best version ,although the best voice for me was gentleman jim reeves then again i love nat king cole mmmmmm martin robbins on el paso errrrrrrrrrr hang on what about slim grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr do i hav to pick everyones good its all music and it makes me happy when iam sad + sad when iam happy errrrrrrrr who said i should post get another tune on .
I used to play this all the time at my grans house...must have been 7 or 8 years old. This song has never left me and never will. Thanks for bringing back the most wonderful childhood memories.
Must be the best "From A Jack To A King"! I have heard a lot of singers, but not so good like this. And I remember the good old days. I have some favorites: Elvis, Ned Miller, Patsy Cline, Jerry Lee Lewis... and of course "Rock-Olga" from Sweden. Very Sorry she died for just a few days ago! She was the rock-queen here! Listen to What you´ve done to me!!!!!!!! She is outstanding!
@MrPhsst Sorry bub, the reference I have (in this case the booklet in the Bear Family album "From A Jack to A King") credits Ned Miller as the writer. If you have something different cite your reference.
@y0utubemetube Because they've been dominated by computers and gotten too complex. Hence the reason we won't be remembering them in years to come like we remember wonderful songs and people like Ned Miller.
This was one of my dad's very favorite songs. He used to go around singing it to himself all the time. He passed away last summer. Thanks for the post. Great song.
There was lots of song come out at that time. I hate to see the young mess up the mood that was back then. 48 years ago I was 20. Such a good life that God from whom all blessing flow.
Boy do i remember this song, i was just a little boy with the same last name of Miller, i loved how he sang it, tried to dance to it according to my mom, great times gone by. Greg
Thank You so much for sharing this song. Im from India and there are a number of us here who love the old legends and their lovely songs. This song brings back so many fond memories... I just closed my eyes and savoured the sweet melody. God bless you !!!!!
I have a different version of Ned singing this song on a CD. Maybe it is the album version from 1963. It sounds like it was recorded around the same time period.
Still feel this is Ned's best tune because it showcases his range a little better than any other song, especially on the word, "twinkle".
Also, like the tune, "Big Love", which, unfortunately, missed the Pop charts shortly after this hit. All of his songs should have been hits.
Back in the early 60s this was 1 of those rare C&W tunes that crossed over to Top 40.
