seriously the man is dead on....listen up its really about shopping and finding the sound that works for you and the application you are using it for I use Mesa Boogie tube - line 6 solid state spider 2 and Fender tube
I think that the new Vox amps are great for both live and practice situations. the VT series. All have tube preamps which give it that great tube sound without having to be expensive. Then when your practicing they have a knob on back to change the wattage that's coming from the amp so you can turn it up to get the sound without having it extremely loud. Great from blues/metal and cleans. My favs in it's price range!
I need Help? i'm stuck between a fender fm100h head and a behringer GMX1200h head. The behringer has and effetcs loop but does it come witha footswitch? And what cab should i get staying within 250 for the cab an ibanez or a bugera? Help!!!! Please
iplay rock and blues and am stuck, which sounds better and which cab and amp is better? help somone
one of the best solid state amps is randal (hence: Dimebag Darrel with Pantera and their cow boys from hell album and vulgar display of power album) that was soild state with randal, i love that sound, just wish i had the money to get a randal
if you want to play through a great amp i play through a ibanez 50r tone master and i rocks i also played through a behringer half stack with 99 effects built in and it was awesome
when it comes to clean sound, nothing is more accurate at
amplifying than modern solid state. the overdrive (distortion,
fuzz, choose whatever name you want) is different. basically, guitar sound is a sum of sine waves. when the amplified signal gets as high as amplification voltage, or steering voltage, the sine wave is "cut". this "cutting" is
done differently in transistors and in a tube/speaker transformer system. that is what I learned while

Hey i just got an orange 35w ldx crush for xmas i got it and plugged it in and it started making a weird rattling noise. i sent it back and got a new one of the same amp and it does the same thing even worse tho any advice??
can any 1 please tell me what is the difference between solid-state amp and tube amp? and which one is better for rock n roll/metal/blues. i have a les paul standard 2007 what amp fits it best?
@Aboodikillakali if you want a good solid state, i would go with a Fender or a Marshall with a les paul. they both have a great range as far as solid state goes. thats more for blues or rock though. for metal i would use a tube. Peavey has a great line of tube amps
depends on the sound you are going for. the typical for those genres are tube, but the types or tubes or the type of circuit makes a lot of difference. let me know what bands you like and what sound you are after and i can give you some of my recommendations. good lock
Nope, most practice amps have distortion and clean, some also just have distortion and some just have clean. Also, there are amps that require a channel head for effects, like for instance a Marshall stack.
I have a Marshall half stack, I practice in my bedroom with it, the application was, I needed good tone. I was done buying crapy practice amp after crapy practice amp
i have 2 50watt 1980's peavey amps for my electric they're good for metal, rock, blues, i even used one once for my bass when i lost my bass amp at the music shop cause it blew up
In the old pre master volume tube amps i would agree that you need to crank it for the best sound. However with new one thats not always the case. I have a marshall JVM and you can get good tone at low volumes. The other thing is with a Plexi or something like it you could always buy an attenuator. That way you can work the tubes to break up but not burst your windows and eardrums in the process. I have a marshall stack in my bedroom and I am getting a Mesa next week. I dont think you can
Great channel, like the advice. I use mesa boogie dual recto for heavy stuff but also like fender amps for clean, marshall for lead-matchless is the nicest i've played for a crunch/voxy sort of overdrive, i'd have em all if i could! subbed 5stars
I have a Marshall 1/2 stack in my bedroom. Epiphone So Cal is the cheapest tube amp i have found and it sounds good with some pedals (if you are a metal head)
I was waiting for a sales pitch but it never happened. This guy talks the language of musos. My Epi SG, Digitech RP2000 and a set of decent cans fits my bill for "domestic use". A couple of Session 90s work well when I want to get loud. It is all so personal. A vintage Gold Top through a Marshall stack is not gonna make you the new Gary Moore. This guy is a top bloke and knows what he's talking about. Like to hear him play. Links please anyone xxxx
Solid state uses circuits 2 emulate a distortion,,Tubes are the real deal,,when u turn up gain the tube starts to heat up and causes a natural overdrive,,tubes have 2 be cranked up 2 get the full effect,,low gain not as noticable but still sound better than solid state,,nowadays they have hybrids where the pre amp is tube but the output is circuit,,obviously getting an all tube (pre amp is tube and output is tube)
solid state amps usually sound more digital sounding but r a lot cheaper and tube amps have preamp tubes usually 12AX7 and power tubes to put out power usually 6l6 or EL34 or 84. 50 watts on a tube amp with power tubes is a lot louder than 75 watts on a solid state like for example a line 6 spider three is a popular solid state. tube amps you have to turn up to sound good but sound great witha sweet sounding warm feeling that feels thicker. some brands make hybrids like vypyr tube, spider valve
tube amp are how classic amps are made and are the most expensive everything is connected directly with one another... sold state is circuitry boards connecting things electronically
Tube amps are the original amp design. They use analog tubes. These tubes need to heat up, and lead to a better tones in most opinions. Solid state amps are all electric. When you push a tube amp to a higher volume, you can distort your signal Solid state was created to allow you to remain clean at high volumes. BUT WE LIKE OUR DIRT, DON'T WE. So Solid State amps need to digitally create the distortion, leading to inferior tones IMO
Tube amps litteraly have a glass tube inside of it, when you play it you get a lot fuller and warmer tone because the voltage goes through tube, solid just has the speaker that you play into
A solid state amp just imitate a valve amp, ina a ss amp there are some artificial circuits that imitate the natural saturation of the tube with a ss amp you have just to turn up th gain knob to obtain a decent sound, the tube amps are more warm and they sound better than a ss. But they need high volumes to sound good. So the choice depend from your budget, tube amps are very expensive, and from were you want to play your amp in general, if i play in bedroom and in a band i prefer small tube amps
tube amps are usally higher prized, but in return, you'll get a warmer sound. I'd say tube is better than solid state, and I think most people will agree with me at that one. But really, solid state can be good too. It's all a matter of personal prefence. Let your ear decide!
There is no comparison between a tube amp and a solid state amp when it comes to harmonic frequency response and amplification. The harmonic response of the tube amp is much better than that of the solid state amp, hence the warmer sound but as the guy on the video says and as Hawkon33 said it's all in the ears and the budget and how you're going to use your amplifier.
I think it's pollite to not knock solid-state users... but even a mediocre tube amp at low volumes doesn't have the brittleness of a solid-state amp. Solid states never sound as full and are less organic. I would never tell anyone to avoid a tube amp simply because they are bedroom jammers... just get a low watt tube amp... or an attenuator.
nice video, i need a new amp and i am trying to find one with a foot pedal to switch from clean channel to a channel of my choice (chorus, flanger etc...) im have trouble finding any amps with foot switches..
Erm you can't really get amps with foot switches, that's basically what effect pedals are for, just get a multi-effect pedal and use the distortion/effects on that and put your amp on clean.
wow i am so stupid... i bought a line 6 spider half-stack thinking it wud be awesome.... now i wanna get a marshall tube.... what the fuck am i gonna do!?
yeah i think the line 6 amp are really bad unless u are beginner, but the line 6 effect are ok, just buy a marshall! not saying only marshall are the best but it will definitely wont disappointed u, just to be safe :)
I would suggest a tube amp is the only way to go Not only will they invariably sound better, they become an extension of the guitar as an instrument and not just something that makes it louder. Also, I would remind folks to never put a distortion effect through the effects loop.
Please don't listen to the budget part!!!!! I've BOUGHT WAAAAAAAAAAYYY TOO MUCH ---SHIT----!!!! WHEN IF I WOULD HAVE JUST SAVED!!!!(waited) I COULD HAVE GOTTEN SOMETHING NICE !!!! (p.s. test everything for a couple of hours....fuck salesmen and any other listeners, make SURE you want it...DON'T BE SCARED!!!! :O D) THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A BUDGET!!! IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD IT, YOU'RE NOT READY TO GO FOR IT. !!! SAVE-YOUR-MONEY!!!!! PLEASE LISTEN TO ME! TEST IT...AFFORD IT LATER!
definitely save up and get something worth getting instead of getting whatever because you will certainly soon realize that you wasted that money because you will want something better and have to buy it anyway
get a good starting amp (like a 30 watt practice their all the same)
then maybe a better one like combo or 30 watt or something
but after that
definitely nothing useful besides getting teh real deal
im deciding on a new amp, i know i want a half stack. that much is for sure. I would like something under $700 or around there. I am trying to get a sound like the devil wears prada, attack attack!, or some of those hardcore bands. any suggestions would be loved.
@scotty6606444 hey dude!!! can i ask you something, is a stereo ok to be the amp of my guitar?? or do i need an specified guitar amp?? pls reply soon... tnks :)
i have jackson guitar and her neck are the same like the guitare on ur hands at the begin of the video and it wtote on it just jackson so i start think if its fake or original
this may be a little late but i read your comment, a jackson with dot inlays on the frets just usualy means its part of the JS series or the old performer series. not a fake
fender and marshall is like same shit diffrent story with the fender all i do is just tune the guitar so i can get the same damn noise that marshall does,,
hey man i just play in my bedroom and stuff and was just wundering what sort of amp i should get ( i have a fender stratocaster i want to get a line 6 amp cuz they look kool.....what amp do i get..??
I have a Fender American Highway One Strat and an Epiphone Les Paul Standard, I play both of them through a Fender FM 100H,in the basement, I LOVE IT!!!!
well line6 is best if you want to jump in (if your a beginner) to effects. But what i dont like of line 6 effects is the amp effects are simultaneously. instead of delay-> reverb its Delay and Reverb together making a different tone. :D hope that helps :D
did you even listen to the video? he says that he cant give you answer when you just ask what amp. its up to you. The spider 3 is a really good amp though.
well i think ENGL or BRUNETTI is bettern than a mesa but its only my opinion or splawn, ORANGE and MESA is not the top of the world....but its depends how deep are your pockets
I've always been woried about taking my guitar into a store (paticularly the one I didn't buy it from) I mean, coudn't they accuse me of STEALING? and then yank it away and sell it? maybe I'm over reacting. you tell me.
over reacting.....they usualy have sticker prices on the guitar....and they know which models are sold...and how much they have of that model..dont worry about it.....just let a employee know you have your own guitar
well, you put a cable in the effects out, through your effects, and then in the effects in, maybe there is a switch on the amp where you can put the effects loop on or off
i am a beginner and i'm getting a squier and idk what amp to get i want something like for rocking and distortion and low budget i play like ac dc metallica deep purple etc..
dude i've got the roland micro cube amp ($100) and it has (acoustic , jc clean , black panel , brit combo , classic(electric) ,and the R-Fier) voices and the EFX are ( chorus , flanger , phaser , tremolo ) , it has (delay and reverb) and of course tone gain and volume.
Everyone who's going to buy an amp and don't know what they want should really watch this. I know what I want, and I'm happy for it, but i might have changed my mind if i saw this video a few years back. This is really helpful video, good job guys! Keep it up 5*
yeah same here, i bought an amp maybe 5 months ago and it sounds great, but now it sounds like crap, i think im gonna go with the line 6, thats my final decision
i know this is gonna sound like a major newb question but oh well i just got my guitar about a month ago and ive been teaching myself and i thought it might be cool to try and play smoke on the water so i teach myself how to play it but my guitar dosnt sound like an actual electric guitar, and i dont know if its the amp or the guitar if you have an ansewr just post a comment on my page
im gonna assume that you are talking about distortion, most amps have an overdrive or distortion channel on them if yours has one then just put it on that channel or you can get a distortion pedal which have a pretty wide price range but you can find some decent ones for not to much. hope that helps
you need gain to make it sound like that, check your amp to see if it has a gain button/knob on it and if not you can always buy a pedal and plug it into the amp to get the noise. If you need to get a pedal i recommend a 'behringer ultra fuzz', its a budget one with a great sound!
wait you have to replace tubes in tube amps. wow i've been playing forever and can even play eruption on guitar, I have a tube amp and I never realised you have to change the tubes. wow. how often do you have to change the tubes?
From what you said I don't even think you play guitar. There are plenty of harder things than eruption. And you don't really even have to change a whole lotta tubes because I've played through a 60 somethin Fender amp and it sounded awesome with orginal tubes.
hey i have that same guitar u have there holding what amp do you recomend for just playing in my bedroom? btw i like playing avenged sevenfold songs just so u know thanks in advance
wel usually people would say bogner because thats wut a7x uses in the studio but when they play live thye have 2 amp boger and mesa boogie single recifier.. even though i dont know if syn uses the bogner or if zacky does but when they play live one of them uses the bogner and the other uses mesa boogie single rectifier hope that helps...
try the line 6 spider 3 amps... i had it at home and i really like it... u have 400 presets, 250 for songs and 150 artist's preset, u have the choice about(5 watts, 15, 30, 75 120 and 150 watts...) i got the 75 watts but u can also have the jam amp, u got more presets and u can play and theres like a looper and u can hear rythm drum and guit, u can record songs not so much but still in the jam. but if u only play at home ill say 15 to 75 watts, i bought the 75 w for only 350 $ with tax
yeah great advice...im looking for just an amp i can bring to my friends house and we play in his garage so i would go into that application. my budget is about $150 or less ...any reccomendations?
Good vid though, my amp choice is totally in contradiction (?) to this vid :P. I have one loud marshall half stack (vintage jcm 800) but I'm not even in a band and I'm always playing it at home :).
seriously the man is dead on....listen up its really about shopping and finding the sound that works for you and the application you are using it for I use Mesa Boogie tube - line 6 solid state spider 2 and Fender tube

TEST IT...AFFORD IT LATER!
jareds1007 2 years ago 12
yeah dude
definitely save up and get something worth getting instead of getting whatever because you will certainly soon realize that you wasted that money because you will want something better and have to buy it anyway
get a good starting amp (like a 30 watt practice their all the same)
then maybe a better one like combo or 30 watt or something
but after that
definitely nothing useful besides getting teh real deal

im deciding on a new amp, i know i want a half stack. that much is for sure. I would like something under $700 or around there. I am trying to get a sound like the devil wears prada, attack attack!, or some of those hardcore bands. any suggestions would be loved.
liebz7 2 years ago
most bands like the devil wears prada use mesa/boogie

Except that the The Devil Wears Prada isn't a metal band.

TtandCsVideos 2 years ago
On the tube vs. solid state, two options to think about to get the tubes:
Fender Super\Vibro Champ XD
good tube tone, no tubes tho
Peavey Vypyr 30 (DO NOT GET THE VYPYR 15 IT IS A PIECE OF SHIT)

i have jackson guitar and her neck are the same like the guitare on ur hands at the begin of the video and it wtote on it just jackson so i start think if its fake or original
any way i will take the neck pic and show u
hogoamin 2 years ago
this may be a little late but i read your comment, a jackson with dot inlays on the frets just usualy means its part of the JS series or the old performer series. not a fake

Hey Dan,
I'v got a Epiphone les paul. What kind of amp should I use?
I also got a charvel, Fender, Washburn, and a knock off.
I'm getting a spider3. Is that a good choice for the Epiphone, because I use it more than anything else.
tlg71996 3 years ago
well line6 is best if you want to jump in (if your a beginner) to effects. But what i dont like of line 6 effects is the amp effects are simultaneously. instead of delay-> reverb its Delay and Reverb together making a different tone. :D hope that helps :D
jadecatazn 3 years ago
did you even listen to the video? he says that he cant give you answer when you just ask what amp. its up to you. The spider 3 is a really good amp though.

Alvafan1977 3 years ago
well i think ENGL or BRUNETTI is bettern than a mesa but its only my opinion or splawn, ORANGE and MESA is not the top of the world....but its depends how deep are your pockets

I've always been woried about taking my guitar into a store (paticularly the one I didn't buy it from) I mean, coudn't they accuse me of STEALING? and then yank it away and sell it? maybe I'm over reacting. you tell me.
jonafun516 3 years ago
over reacting.....they usualy have sticker prices on the guitar....and they know which models are sold...and how much they have of that model..dont worry about it.....just let a employee know you have your own guitar

another question
i think mi amp has effects loop
but how does that work
please help me
indieplayer 3 years ago
well, you put a cable in the effects out, through your effects, and then in the effects in, maybe there is a switch on the amp where you can put the effects loop on or off
GoreCum 3 years ago

Does anyone have any suggestions regarding a Mesa Boogie that doesn't require you to be a multi-millionaire to afford (other than buying a used one).
sirnathan 3 years ago
a tube amp , every good guitar player , use a tube amp .
WERMENSCH 3 years ago
Everyone who's going to buy an amp and don't know what they want should really watch this. I know what I want, and I'm happy for it, but i might have changed my mind if i saw this video a few years back. This is really helpful video, good job guys! Keep it up 5*
AlexGuitar1987 3 years ago
yeah same here, i bought an amp maybe 5 months ago and it sounds great, but now it sounds like crap, i think im gonna go with the line 6, thats my final decision
keyblade09 3 years ago
A nice older Vox is great if youre looking for a tube amp. But I'm dreaming of getting a Mesa head or an Orange amp...

I love Line 6 amp
illusionatorz 3 years ago
More features doesn't necesarilly mean more money.
Alot of the more expensive amps have on channel and no onboard reverb or effects loop.
Look at a Hiwatt or Trillium.

i know this is gonna sound like a major newb question but oh well i just got my guitar about a month ago and ive been teaching myself and i thought it might be cool to try and play smoke on the water so i teach myself how to play it but my guitar dosnt sound like an actual electric guitar, and i dont know if its the amp or the guitar if you have an ansewr just post a comment on my page
poli1357 3 years ago
maybe you've got no distortion??
MichaelTheStrange 3 years ago
oh ok thanks
poli1357 3 years ago
im gonna assume that you are talking about distortion, most amps have an overdrive or distortion channel on them if yours has one then just put it on that channel or you can get a distortion pedal which have a pretty wide price range but you can find some decent ones for not to much. hope that helps
joshlt2002 3 years ago
Depends on your gear (guitar+amp) actually. Do you use an overdrive pedal or does your amp have it built-in? OD is important for that main riff.
hezzart 3 years ago
you need gain to make it sound like that, check your amp to see if it has a gain button/knob on it and if not you can always buy a pedal and plug it into the amp to get the noise. If you need to get a pedal i recommend a 'behringer ultra fuzz', its a budget one with a great sound!
stey2k 3 years ago
yeah i know exactly what you mean, you need a distortion pedal
AndrewConfides 3 years ago
does ur guitar amp have a over-drive setting? because,if u use that,u get a really good,rocky,distorted,loud sound

wait you have to replace tubes in tube amps. wow i've been playing forever and can even play eruption on guitar, I have a tube amp and I never realised you have to change the tubes. wow. how often do you have to change the tubes?
mkmoloch 3 years ago
every 3 years-ish
a7xmetalhead16 3 years ago
From what you said I don't even think you play guitar. There are plenty of harder things than eruption. And you don't really even have to change a whole lotta tubes because I've played through a 60 somethin Fender amp and it sounded awesome with orginal tubes.

try the line 6 spider 3 amps... i had it at home and i really like it... u have 400 presets, 250 for songs and 150 artist's preset, u have the choice about(5 watts, 15, 30, 75 120 and 150 watts...) i got the 75 watts but u can also have the jam amp, u got more presets and u can play and theres like a looper and u can hear rythm drum and guit, u can record songs not so much but still in the jam. but if u only play at home ill say 15 to 75 watts, i bought the 75 w for only 350 $ with tax

what marshall are you looking at? don't get the MG series. i wouldn't even get a marshall for anything.
