Joe Clark was murdered in 1885. The ballad "Old Joe Clark" was sung during WW 1, and later by Kentucky volunteers. Dunno that this is "roots" music, being that late in the game.
Dunno that you know much about this music or musician. Dunno what you mean by "roots" either. John Carson learned this song long before he recorded it. Anyways this recording was made not long after WW 1.

God I just love these old recordings... My favorite is Leadbelly's "John Hardy" but this one's also awesome.

everyone seems to go down to the early blues,however,this is the real roots of american music. accept it as such.
