@datafreak667 if ubuntu doesn't scan for nearby networks you need to install the driver. To do this connect via ethernet and use the Additional Drivers program to install your drivers.
@LL1K It would be 10.04 and some Wirless cards are compatable with Linux just you need to connect via an ether net cable to jump start Ubuntu in to downloading the firmware and drivers for the card
@arranmc182 i have the same problem but im on a desktop that is somewhat far from the router, would connecting the router to my computer do the same thing as the ether net cable?
my wireless icon vanished completely. the card is still running; the laptop can still see it when I ask the terminal to find it, but there's no way I can access any of the routers in range. why would this happen? "Add to Panel" doesnt seem to offer that either, its not one of the things I can add.
yeah almost.. only you can't activate your wireless cuz there are no drivers for ur net card :D I loved ubuntu 9.1 when I saw it for the first time.. but only when I saw it.. when I started to work with it.. nah.. it's awful..
You have to maybe install the driver and firmware if its a broadcom card then you have to just hook up vis Ethernet and Ubuntu should then check for any proprietary drivers if not just fire up Hardware Drivers in system
@arranmc182 I been in the driver thing, it said no new drivers... and I don't have an internet cable to plug in (Not suppose to have ubuntu installed...)
Its not called a internet cable its real name is Ethernet Cable and you must have one connected to the the computer and to a Network with internet for Ubuntu to find the Drivers it needs
I'll just ask my dad (If he doesn't yell at me :P) Nice tutorial anyway, please subscribe if you like my videos.. I'm gonna watch some more of ur vids, and If I like them, I'll sub (:
I cn connect with an ethernet cable, infact, that's how I'm sending this... but the issue I'm faced with prevents me from connecting to my network wirelessly... it worked flawlessly with Windows XP, so I don't see why it wouldn't work with UBUNTU... I have tried every security option I have, but WPA is not on my list... I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 that I downloaded, burned, and installed... it is the only OS on my HDD... help...?
check out the Ubuntu forums just google it they can help you out better there but i recommend that u make sure your system is up 2 date and see if there any extra things like firmware updates for you wifi card in linux
It says im connected (wirelessly) to my network but when i try to do anything that involves connecting to the Internet (such as firefox, update manager, etc.) it doesn't work. But it says i have 3 blue bars... Any ideas?
Have a look at your router settings and try connecting with a ethernet cable and see if that works if it dose it could be your wirless security settings are not right try chnging them and see if that helps at all

Looks like you do if you can get hold of a USB 3g internet dongle that may work
