  • within the first three seconds, my eyes are watering.

  • I've just watched this film & forgot how sad these closing scenes are... I sat there crying & crying. What a lovely song, makes me smile & cry at the same time- very moving xx

  • RIP Tom Hanks. Good night, sweet prince.

  • i just watch the movie :-( i am criyng so hard im so sorry for all the people who has this terible diseases ...not only the people who has aids also cancer and all the bad sicknes ..I wish i could heal it ...i cant stop crying makes me so sad

  • Can never listen to this amazing song without tears, its soft, slow rhythm and Neils great lyrics are undeniably good.

  • This movie reminds me of the HUAC hearings in the1950's and the destruction discrimination causes. Joe McCarthy led the red scare until a senator finally asked him if there was any end to his hunt. People lost jobs and were refused work. Hank's character lost his job because of the AIDS virus. And like the senator, a jury said enough is enough.

  • @Karl6471 wonderful, truthful and such an insightful analogy. thank you.

  • City of brotherlu love…

  • When this film and song came out, it is the saddest and most heart pulling song i have ever heard, still is. ;D Love is the beautiful feeling in the world, and im divorced and will still always believe this :D

  • What a great movie .How Neil Young did not get the oscar for this is a mystery.Good as Bruce Springsteens winning song from this movie was Youngs composition is in a different league .Ive yet to meet anyone that disagrees with that to date

  • This video just makes me think of our easily life eventually get out of hand. From a cute angelic looking child who looked so happy to an adult man with AIDs who dies before his time. Childhood is really the best time of one’s life!

  • Deepest film ever im only 14 but i cry ;..(

  • I want this song played at my funeral. ALong with Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber.

  • always loved this movie and Philadelphia is probably my all time favorite Neil young song baring Heart Of Gold Only Love Can Break A Heart Love Is A Rose Silver & Gold. Joanne Woodward was amazing in the part of Sarah Beckett but got looked over at awads time

  • This is possibly one of the most poignant pieces of film making I have ever seen. The music, the editing, the subject matter.

If you can't let this sink in, it is YOU who has built up the wall against it.

Some day we will be looking at photographs of YOU and all we have left is a few home movie clips and a closet full of your belongings. Life is precious.

  • @sfiannacone Very well said...so true, and yes life is precious God Bless :-)

  • @sfiannacone so true!

  • A melhor musica do mundo, obrigado Neil Young!

  • Not trying to sound like a tough cookie but there aren't many films that can really make me cry but this just makes me weep and I actually have wet cheeks right now :``( A rare true heart-wreching film that deserved every award it got (and more)...

  • so touching

  • @phillytheflyerable

isn't it? it has its critics in the gay community and elsewhere but I love this movie.

To me, it says we're all human.i mean gay people arent freaks or wierdos.

The ending says that to me.It could be Home movies from anyone's life. Loved it.

  • @hc82288 why would gay people be critical

  • @phillytheflyerable

I remember after it came out (pun not intended) seeing stories of gay groups saying it wasn't realistic enough. The studio cut some "intimate scenes" from the theatrical version.I think it's on the dvd version.

    great movie nonetheless.

  • me encanta este tipo de entierros, todos "contentos" algun q otro llanto claro pero como al muerto le gustaria estan sonriendo y viendo un video recordandole!

  • Noooo in spanish is so ridicolous!

  • my teacher told me about that movie

  • makes me cry

  • I feel love. I feel want. I feel need. I feel hate. I feel everything that I need to feel I need now, I feel it all.I feel it in a note change. I understand what you want to write...I'm here. Just here .

  • SHUT THE FUCK UP

  • Does anyone know where this scene takes place? Is it in Andrews apartment?

  • Devestatingly jaw dropping end to the film

  • I can't even watch the full clip. I choked up all the time during this scene. Such a powerful and poignant movie.

  • Q: What do you call an AIDS activist in a Wheel chair??

    A: Roll-Aids!

  • I always cry when I hear this music, Wonderful movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I remember sitting in cinema shaking and crying my heart out like never before and again to a movie scene.

  • Neil Young's song rips me apart

  • I saw this movie when I was about 12 and cried for days. I still cry now when ever I see it. Wonderful movie and this song just tops it off :'-(

  • i cry everytime i see this...and yes im 48 and a straight male if that matters...great movie

  • I m sorry

  • Will someone speak english? All of you are so interested in impressing everyone with you so called education but are lacking the most important trait of all...COMMON SENSE...the Lord will be the final judge as to a ones sexual preference.

  • @vette20041

Why don't you stick the Lord in the nether region worshiped by the homo-coprophiliacs? They'd surely see that as a heavenly development.

  • A mere two policy decisions would all but eliminate AIDS in the West: 1) clean needle program for IV drug addicts, and 2) outlaw coprophiliac sex and enforce the law with heavy police power (i.e., if the homosexuals insist on repeating Stonewall, crush them with massive, unremitting repression).

Of course, our politicians have no stomach for reality and cannot be counted on to understand how to successfully address this problem.

  • Comment removed

  • In Africa and much of the non-Western world, where AIDS is more widespread among women, it is so because so many men there practice coprophiliac sex and then have sex with women, frequently forced and non-mutual (and hence the vaginal area is torn and bloodied, allowing the virus easy passage). The horrid hygienic conditions there also contribute to the problem. But if feces-seeking men in those countries could be confined, AIDS cases would vastly decrease.

  • Let's stop giving pizuzuzimmer the attention he is obviously craving! I'm sure he is just one of those freaks with no life and just sits in front of the computer all day. Sad,sad man

  • @barcalooney

Your feces-craving friends cannot help responding to my truth. They must attack reality whenever it appears. It's the whole life mission of the shit-loving, death-worshiping race of homosexuals.

  • @Pizuzuzimmer , why are you watching this video in the first place, when you have so much hatred for gay people, does make me wonder, come on now tell the truth, you were turned down at a gay bar,but if you go back to you dad i am sure he is still up for it, but then again your asshole just might not be tight enough after years of self abuse. try the local papers i am sure you could find a crackhead man to fuck you, good look sissy

  • @barcalooney

Go back to your plate of feces.

  • @Pizuzuzimmer such a shame you are so bitter and twisted i think if i met up with you i would beat the shit out of you like you dad did,i am not gay, but like a great man said , all you need is love, you sad little abused man

  • @barcalooney

So let me get this straight...all you need is love, but you want to beat the shit out of me?

    Nice logic, cretin.

I have bowel movements bigger than you, little pansy boy.

  • Thanks be to God we are not affected, but I would reach every child and adult now my shoulder. Because everyone needs a serious time, a shoulder to lean on!

  • 12 people lack any vestige of humanity.

  • @EconAtheist

As though you or any of the other homosexual-crazed cretins were in any position to evaluate who is and is not human. This film is a celebration of shit and death, as is all of male homosexuality. Are those your values? You're welcome to them.

  • @Pizuzuzimmer

    So, you're a bottom?

  • @EconAtheist

No, I said "you're mentally ill."

  • @Pizuzuzimmer

I don't understand what that has with your enjoyment of being donkey punched.

  • @EconAtheist

This'll be my last response to you: when the anal cancer comes along for you, know that, although I won't know you specifically are dying, in a general sense, I will feel satisfaction about your destruction and the inevitable decay and death inverts like you bring on yourselves through your bestial, monstrous actions.

  • @Pizuzuzimmer HOW CAN YOU SAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT?? XD it's scary to see that there is people out there as full of hate as you... but then again, i am sure it is not your fault... In your case, stupidity is probably a family thing LOL No kidding now, I don't even want to imagine the kind of life you've had. I'm really sorry for you. you should try to do something joyful with your life dude, then you would suddenly realize that you don't care that much about other people's asses (bussiness). XD

  • @yagorules

What a trivial person you must be.

  • 12 people are hiv-positive -.-

  • I am so glad the video is back, it goes deeply into the heart! It was blocked for quite a long time, at least in Germany!

Youtube killed the videostar, at least in Germany!

  • I had a friend who die like this in the state of Florida...finding out she die all alone, it ripped my heart apart , do to the fact I was in NY at the time....rip Lynn...

  • beautiful. ;_;

  • Everyone on here who is ranting about how evil homosexuals are and how they should stay in the closet need to watch this movie again. It's taught you nothing.

  • This movie is based on an actual event the character Tom hanks isn't Andrew becett which is stated in the film but the person he is in the movie is geffory bowwor who's life was depicted in the film he tragically died of the disease that occured in the film and in real life

  • the spanish yapping ruins it

  • When I first saw this movie, the ending made me bust out crying. And seeing it now, I started crying again. One of the saddest endings I have ever seen in a film, and the song fits the scene perfectly.

  • @brbgal It was the perfect song for the movie. It moves you to tears. Tom and Denzel were amazing in this movie has was the rest of the cast.

  • You do realise that even today, thanks to people like you there is still a vast number of homosexuals who are forced to keep their sexual preference hidden? Something they have never chosen. (No scientific proof to say it is predetermined but no proof to the contrary either.)

But what movies pass your moral standard then? What is elitist enough for you to deem it worthy of viewing and not be considered a perverse propaganda-movie in your mind?

  • @Ostrakizein

And why is it such a bad thing that they keep the fact that they enjoy probing into shit to themselves? Homos kept it to themselves for the entirety of human history up until a few decades ago, and civilization was not affected in the least. Then they came out in the 60s and 70s and we got the plague of AIDS as a result.

Get back into the closet, you degenerates. Normal humans have had enough of you parading your sickness as though it were a badge of honor.

  • @Pizuzuzimmer You're seriously still at it, still frantically replying to every comment and trying to prove and yet failing miserably that we all are degenerates.

Silly me for replying in the first place. People like you don't even deserve a reply.

  • @Ostrakizein

The burden of proof isn't on me. You prove your status by the vile acts you accomplish.

  • @PeterBluth

But that's fine, right? He was just horny. Can't blame him for not being able to control himself, kind of like a dog in heat, right? I mean, we can't expect people to act like human beings, can we? We should lower our moral standard and accept that people will need to futter anything that moves around them from time to time and they cannot be held morally responsible for the consequences. In fact, the rest of us probably should pay to treat the diseases they incur.

  • @olivemike81

And some of us seek love in healthy ways, and others seek it in self-annihilating acts of filth involving the excretory system.

  • @Pizuzuzimmer Wee it's not your fucking place to decide who's love is beautiful and who's love is filthy. As long as a sexual act involves two consenting adults in the privacy of their own home it's really none of your fucking business. So save yourself the trouble and just accept that you aren't going to be able to do anything about it.

  • @olivemike81

You don't read well, do you? Where did I say I'm interested in doing anything about what two disturbed men do to one another in private? In fact, I encourage all homosexuals to fully engage with their desires as the Hanks character did in this movie. And when your fate parallels his as a result of your actions, please spare me the whining and crying and begging for my money and sympathy. When you make your filthy bed, by all means, be my guest and lie in it.

  • @Pizuzuzimmer I'm not gay. And it's you who need to learn how to read. You judged gays to be filthy and I simply pointed out that you're in no place to judge the personal choices of others. No one is. Are you Christian? Do you believe in god? I ask because I see so many Christians talking about the Bible this and Jesus that and you all seem to forget the parts where it says only god can judge the sins of man. In case you don't understand what that means it means you need to shut up.

  • @olivemike81

I don't judge what homosexual men to do to one another as filthy--the objective facts of what they do (sticking their appendages up the organ that exists to empty the body of shit, often thereby coating said appendages in said shit) condemn them as unhealthy and disgusting to any morally sane person.

  • @olivemike81

You can take your dime store moral relativism and stick it the same place the homos like so much--I am perfectly capable of discerning what is sexually normal and what is sexually depraved because I can see how the human species is organized and how it functions sexually. Doesn't take bullshit Great White Bearded Grandpa Yahweh/Jesus in the sky for that. So stick your Bible up there with the fecal matter too.

  • @Pizuzuzimmer Take a look at nature. Virtually every species engages in homosexual acts. And homosexuality has been around in our species for thousands of years. The Greeks were doing it long before your sad little ideas of morality came into being. Long before Christianity started making everyone feel bad just for being human.

  • @olivemike81

Virtually every species in nature also engages in cannibalism on occasion, should we follow the example there too? And the fact that distorted men have had a sexual fetish about the excretory system for a long time is as much a justification of that as the fact that men have been committing mass murder forever is a justification of that. Are you in the 7th grade? You argue like you are.

  • @Pizuzuzimmer Comparing sex to cannibalism. Yep, you're a fucking Republican alright. I bet the reason you are so against homosexuality is because you can't get any pussy yourself. So you're going to try and ruin it for others.

  • @olivemike81

More advanced logic from the closet homosexual: I "can't get any pussy" so I "try to ruin it for others"...by criticizing the practice of ANAL sex. Last I checked, "pussy" was the vulgar man's way of referring to the vagina, not the anus. Or have you homos now started calling your rectums vaginas?

All that feces you've ingested from your loving encounters with other men has infected your brain.

  • @Pizuzuzimmer And it's not my bible. Do you even read what I post? I fucking hate the bible.

  • *Well

  • For all you haters out there...I hope someone is standing beside your bed when you are dying. Perhaps then you will understand that we all die the same way and that it is only the joy of life that gives us meaning as individuals.

So put aside your hatred of those things you do not understand before someone realizes you are afraid and know that cowards die a lonely death. Anyone who is critical of another's life and wishes them dead is a shallow soul, I feel so sorry for you.

  • @TaintedMustard

Laughably confused. The homo lobby has you convinced, it's clear. Don't bother with any real science, you're bound to be disappointed. Try to find some non-human animals that are exclusively homosexual, you'll be looking a long time.

  • @poisonfume

Now that's a fair insult--I'll have to remember that one. "May the devil suck the marrow from your bones." Not bad.

  • @lovellyvee29

You must cry too at Nike commercials.

  • @AnotherAlias07

Please, please. Don't talk about "movie history," as though you know something about it. Movie history does not begin in 1998.

  • @Pizuzuzimmer It's easy to pass judgement, that is, until someone you love reveals to you that they are gay, then you have to stop and re-assess your definition of the "morally perverse."

  • @OthelloJenkins

If you stop classifying as perverse what is objectively perverse just because your brother is among the perverse, you reveal your own shortcomings. Typically 21st century American way of looking at things--utterly subjective, incapable of rational judgment.

  • @Pizuzuzimmer The irony in comments like yours is that it presumes a "self righteousness" based on the fact that YOUR bad choices haven't cost you your life and instead of you being humbled by God's grace in saving you from YOUR bad choices, you embrace it as something that YOU did for yourself.

    That's pride at it's worst.

Tell me, when you lose a loved one to lung cancer, do you grieve or do you recount all the cigarettes they smoked? Probably not the latter because there's no point.

  • @OthelloJenkins

'God's grace,' the predictable crutch of those who cannot or will not think. There is no god, fool, as anyone with anything approaching human intelligence can tell in just a moment's reflection on reality.

  • @Pizuzuzimmer You don't believe in atonement, forgiveness or God? My hope is that you'll find at least one before your physical life ends, whether you ever admit it to us "fools".

  • @OthelloJenkins

Why would I believe in those kindergarten ideas? I'm not in kindergarten, and I'm not a coward incapable of facing reality.

I'm shocked the homos and the Christians don't get along. Two cults deeply committed to denial of reality and trying to make everyone else accept their retarded myths as true (this obscure Jesus dude who died 2000 years ago is really the creator of the universe, or sticking your penis in somebody's anus is normal and healthy--both insane ideas).

  • What a great tune.What a great movie

  • probably should rank in the top25 movies of all time. very powerful film. bravo.

  • @peterm89

Might rank in the top 25 if you've only seen 25 films. Otherwise, no.

  • Lots of babies at that memorial.

  • @Jsd8675

Yeah, and not a one of them the product of sterile 'unions' like the one the dead man was in.

  • Sad, but touching movie!

  • @berryberrymuch thanx 4 the comment

  • @berryberrymuch well my father ended up passing away on sept 26. 2009. it was hard and i cant even remember posting any messages, but sure enough 1 year and 5 months later somone read my comment, im doing better than i was then, but im still sad. i will get better, cause i know ive gotten stronger from all that happen in the past, i can just feel it in my gut that im stronger

  • Go Neil! Excellent song. Perfect.

  • I saw this in a packed theater in New York city when it first came out, and when the lights came on after the ending, everyone stayed in their seats too embarassed to stand up because they were all crying. And if you ever been to NYC, it's every race and culture that lives there. I remember one black couple that put their coats over their faces and wouldn't move LOL. And just thnk: Bruce Springsteen won all the music awards for this movie, not Neil Young. Incredible how political music is.

  • @JamesTKirkCobain you are so so correct with your coment this is the song over bruce's as much as im a bruce fan this moves me so so much

  • @JamesTKirkCobain

Yeah, New York City is a strange place, huh?

  • Could those morons out there who have not yet included their own version of the same comment hundreds of other cretins have already posted here ("I cry every time I see this! BEST FILM EVER! Poor gays!") just save it? Why feel compelled to add "your thoughts" when they are exactly the same as those of the rest of the sheeple? Morally retarded group mind has spoken.

  • La canción más trsite que he oido en mi vida, pero me encanta. Nunca dejo de emocionarme, es brutal. Es la más sensible canción de despedida de casi toda la historia del cine.

  • @FuckYouIslamicWhore As you get older... Death will come creeping up on you more and more... and your heart will soften.

Good luck to you... I hope you live a LONG life... then you will understand.

  • There are very few films that choke me up but when I watched this film in high school, the ending made me want to cry. Even as I watch this clip now, I get a little misty eyed. Very strong and powerful scene.

  • Der Film genial, die Musik der Hammer. Einfach Klasse.

  • The song - genius. It compliments the ending to a film better than any other I have ever heard.

Although sad this clip makes me realise how precsious every moment is - and how innocent our children are. It's wonderful..

  • @scotiamac

Innocent indeed. And this is why they must be protected from morally perverse ideologues who would force us to teach them in schools that there is no moral distinction between an act that gives the gift of new life and an act that can only give disease and death.

  • @Pizuzuzimmer My comment didn't have a question mark after it and it wasn't an invitation for your point of view whatever it may be.

  • @scotiamac

As though I would have to ask permission of such as you to respond to your statement.

  • I remember well seeing this movie and I was completely surprised by the Neil Young song at the end. I cried my heart out. Then when I got home I got a message the my Grandmother had passed away while I was watching this movie. For years I could not listen to this song without breaking down.

  • My friend refuses to see this movie because it is about gay people.

    :/

  • @KaftanSergeFox

Good for him. A good enough reason to avoid much media. Why does it shock you that some people simply haven't enough time in their lives to be preached to by the morally perverse?

  • Goes to show you we are all equal in this world. From the rich to the homeless, gay or straight, black or white~We all are connected<3

  • @mishka7484

No, in fact we're not all equal. Normal people, when they have sex, have the tremendous potential power and responsibility of creating new life. People like the Hanks character, when they have sex, can at best produce a little physical tingling in the genitals; at worst, they produce death.

  • Anyone coan reminde me Whos singing and name of this song pls ?

  • @GilBexiga , neil young : philadelphia

  • @GilBexiga Neil Young. Song is Philadelphia.

  • This was a pretty good movie. Not really into gay or AIDS related movies, but this was a nice one. I'm straight and married with kids. We watch this on HBO about 15 yrs ago , but I remember this part at the end kinda made me tear up a lil, LOL.

Pretty strong scene here, with the family and friends mourning for Hank's character. Esp when they watch his childhood vids. We fimf our kids a lot. No parent should go through this. I'd rather die before my kids.LOL

Hopefully a cure is near for this

  • @jkbezo

There is a fairly foolproof cure for it. Don't put your penis up someone's anus or allow someone else to put his up yours, don't indiscriminately have sex with just anyone you meet at a bar, don't do IV drugs. Follow those three easy steps and you reduce the chances of dying of this horrible disease to close to zero.

  • @Pizuzuzimmer

LOL, well, that is kind of a harsh of putting it, but I guess.

    I'm straight and married BTW.

  • @jkbezo

When are you coming out? Waiting for just the right moment to emotionally destroy your 'spouse'? Or waiting for kids, so you can emotionally destroy them too by announcing that you're into coprophagia?

  • @Pizuzuzimmer

    Troll.

    Coprophagia? Really? LOL

Coming out? I got a wife and have never been into homosexuality? You? If so, that is good for you. It's your thing.

  • IT WAS SUCH A POWERFUL YEAR AT 1993. TELL ME PEOPLE HAD DIFFICULTY DECIDING WHO WOULD WIN BEST PICTURE THAT YEAR: a holocaust tribute or this tribute of HIV/AID's patients?

  • A great song for a great movie.

  • The boy who played tom hanks as a kid id my cousin

  • @dana32340 hahaha right??

  • Such a beautiful song. It helps us realise that whatever our colour, creed or sexual orientation, we just have to get through this life together. Life is way too short to worry about anything else.

  • The word "JUST" is spelt with a "J". You fool.

  • When I die there is only one thing I will regret above all others...... All the songs of my life will die with me. This song is one of them!

  • @LittleRaggie

Erm, so long as the songs are recorded somewhere, they won't die with you.

  • this scene is sooooo powerful

  • These calloused hands... This bruised skull feels good for people...no dogma just good will

  • Do any nice thing that makes you feel nice

  • @Hemanoma

There's advice guaranteed to bring anyone foolish enough to listen to it great misery quickly.

  • I don't know you, but I do know life is hard

  • The comments on this page has renewed my faith in humanity....I LOVE you all

  • One of the most heartbreaking yet beautiful movies ever, along with Forrest Gump, The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption, Brokeback Mountain, Life Is Beautiful, The pursuit of happiness... I cried a lot with this film, but specially in this last scene. Just beautiful:')

  • @vivi1sunshine

What a load of horseshit you consider great film. Not a single historically important film in that whole batch. You do know they were making movies before the 1990s, don't you?

  • Comment removed

  • @vivi1sunshine

Plebian in all things, I see.

  • neil "the legend" young

  • I am 18 years old and still cry about it

  • @Mewdix we're two

  • This movie was the purest example of why we should treat people all the same, race sex and sexuality. Sad movie, but very good.

  • I cried and my girlfriend asked me if why I was crying...did I know a fag?

  • @Hemanoma Sorry... but WOW!

  • @Hemanoma

Hopefully she'll leave you soon for a normal man.

  • Beautiful

  • shit, thats powerful

  • buetiful movie

  • can anyone tell me the name of that song and who it sing ?? pls

  • @kanerwirt666 Neil Young - Philadelphia

  • also check the amazing version of streets of philadelphia from Melissa Etheridge..

    youtube.com/watch?v=GJfJyPMk2rU

  • Amazing song, amazing movie.

Andrew Beckett was our sons, daughters, parents, neighbors, co-workers and friends and we didn't point fingers of blame and condemnation, instead, in the mist of our grief, we celebrated his life. We celebrated their lives.

    Well done, Mr. Demme.

  • @OthelloJenkins

If you're not willing to talk about the personal responsibility people have for the consequence of their morally perverse actions, you give up the ability to stop those consequences.

  • just wonderful, it makes me think about all the men and women dead with HIV. This music makes me cry

  • Great song.

  • One of the most beautifullest endings of all time. I cried because it was so sad but touching at the same time and this movie has so much heart you deserve to cry.

Philadelphia is one of my favorite movies of all time and I will cherish it forever.
