Wimbledon has an idiotic idea for a Player's Box. Don't put both players teams in the same box but in different rows. The tension has to be so much it's insane
Its amazing that federer has always served more aces than roddick in a match - he had like 50 in this match - 1 off the wimbledon record.
Also people talk about federer's forehand being amazing - which it is. BUT, the majority of his greatest shots have come from the backhand - i believe that the flick backhand in this tiebreak won federer the match.
As i watched this game I wished Roddick would stop running to the net.. OBVIOUSLY ITS NOT WORKING! Then I remembered I wanted Federer to win so I stopped minding.
@JasmineBaker13 Well, Roddick would have been outplayed if he had constantly stayed at the baseline IMO. He just isn't the grind it out power player he used to be, so he needs to go on the offense once in a while. Still, though.... I hate watching this. Poor Roddick :( I'm a big Federer fan, but you just can't root against Andy :(
@Niksana951 lol i know what you are trying to say but that is the same thing. federer played a better than roddick. everything is reflected on the score. how can you take this win away from better (especially in a epic 5 set)...
The FH approach A-Rod plays at 6:52 to Fed's FH... SO often, in fact I would say 8times out of 10, Fed counters that approach by whipping a forehand cross-court, into the open space.
When A-Rod hit that approach at 6:52, he must have thought for all the world that Fed would hit back accross him- but he didn't! He played a high FH back up the line, leaving A-Rod with a VERY difficult put-away - Rod wasn't expecting it; he reacted too slow + his arm was tight = miss. Good shot from Fed.
God Roddick played the first 8 points of the tiebreak so intelligently and then turned into a bonehead after that. The worst was the first set point at 6-2 when he should have stuck with the percentage play and kept hitting solid BHs to Roger's BH corner, just like he did on the 4-1 point so he could open up the BH DTL. Instead he commits suicide by hitting a short slice to the Fed FH = kill me now. I think that point was actually the pivotal turning point in this tiebreak.
@nali82 Personally, I think Roger's mental strength has weakened a lot. Specifically, Aussie Open and US Open 2009, where he lost the 5th set of the finals 6-2. He played shamefully in those final sets.
I agree w/ u that he's weakened. That's because he's getting older & it happens to all the greats. What's incredible is that he's still #1 or 2 despite it. He'll be the favourite at Wimbledon & US Open.
@nali82 mentally hes actually shit. its just talent. if you know his record in five-set matches is only 17-14. thats spectacularly bad when you consider hes got the most talent in the game. this means hes mentally WEAK. lucky for him roddick was weaker on this day. but against a guy like nadal, federer WILL NEVER WIN A CLOSE MATCH unless nadal is injured or in the early days before nadal got fit.
How can you be mentally weak and own 16 grand slams and 68 titles? Tell me please... he renversed a LOT of bad situations, but you probably dont know anything about tennis.
He actually won close match against Nadal, just check Miami 2005, Wimbledon 2007... but well, I guess you're just a Nadal tard who's making his day by yelling at Federer, because you cant stand the fact that he's one of the greatest player ever.
miami 2005 was "before nadal got fit". read my post again fuckwit. u just agreed with my point. everyone knows fed is one of the greats, its not the point were debating. the point in question is is mental strength which for a "great" player is a mediocre 17-14. THE WORST OF ALL THE GREATS. nadal wins 90% of five setters these days. learn how to debate the actual point instead of being a parrot that says "fed is great".
@HornyGates winning in 3 sets is hardly a yardstick for displaying mental strength. if you smash an opponent without dropping a set it just shows you have superior talent. when the opponent takes 2 sets off you and it comes down to the decider, that's a true test of mental strength because that's the only difference when both opponents are so evenly matched on the day. sure anyone can win on the day but the real fighters should have a great record longterm. something the fed lacks.

roddick is arguably the best in tennis at two things:
1) falling to the ground
2) suicide charging to the net and then getting passed like a fool (esp against federer)

@nguyenimproved And I say you dont know anything about tennis.
Mental strenght isnt all about five setters, wake up kid.
You can come back from difficult situations and win in 3 - 4 sets, not only 5.
Just watch Federer - Davydenko french open 2007 for example, to know what mental strenght can be in a 3 straight sets match...
Federer has great mental strenght, you cant win so much without, just think about it.
Even though, Nadal got the best mental out there.
