  • I need some extremely basic help with Hammer - I can't make 2 rooms successfully. I just started using Hammer TODAY, so no hate.

    you should have put a " fake dmm door or wall".

    there are tutorials for it so just search it on youtube.

  • Tip: instead of making a block into a func_door_rotating, make a entity and call it prop_door_rotationg. Go into world props, and choose the prop of a door! much better! belive me:)

  • Hmmm... i like the idea, try varying some textures too, like don't have all the same wall pattern in each room, same with floors, Congrats!

  • #2: Details - Once your done with the rough draft of the map, start adding details to make things look nicer. Remember, if the graphics don't appeal to you, you probably won't want to play the map.

    #3: Gameplay - Make sure the overall gameplay of a map is balanced. What I mean by this is that you give a fair chance of winning to either team. Try using bots first before releasing your map.

  • It's not the best map I've ever seen, but at least you still put some effort into it. I started out mapping just like you did, but eventually I got better. Here's some gameplay mechanics ever CS:S map should have.

    #1: Have a catch - Mix up the gameplay a little to make it interesting and fun to play

  • instead of the boards you could make a "glass" wall or what not with the wall pattern so it looks like a dead end... amp up the health and after a few shots it will expose the hallway

  • If I understand you right... compile your map by pressing f9 in hammer. Is that what you where searching for?

  • User prop_door_rotating instead of making your own with brushes!

  • For 0:27, you could put breakable crates for that spot, and also make the map a bit more detailed, and some more textures too. Pretty good map though. Keep up the good work! :)

  • Well im not going to yell at you (CAPS) about telling me that i would just like to ask you what do you think needs improvments and how would i do so cause i would really like to get better at this !

  • I dont wanna say learn more mapping like hollowinichigo says, becaurse you learn to build map, then you build some... so here are just some ideas you can use or dont if you want.

    1) In the first room, make a place in the roof to put your light into, like in office.

    2) in front of the door, make some wood textures (so they look like some barricades) and make them func_breakable it would be more true.

    3) all the light shall not turn on and off all the time.

  • make a func_breakable_surf and make the texture different from the wall so people will think 'maybe if i hit that..." and thats what i think. also try working on th elights downstairs in that room becuase people dont enjoy lights going on...off...on...off, you know what I mean?
