Thanks so much, tastes great. Ive made two bathes to cover a fairly large birthday cake. i found i needed slightly more icing sugar than suggested, oh and if your from the UK, use Trex (you'll find it in every supermarket, its basically the same as crisco (vege shorting) all be it a little more solid till you work it with your hands.
@drakesprinzezz98 if it gets soggy you used too much water to start with and didn't add enough icing sugar. It is always best to put it in the fridge for a few hours or overnight.. it could also be that where you are using your fondant is too warm! maybe bring down the heat or turn on the A/C
This was a great tutorial. I made marshamallow fondant for the first time tonight and it turned out great! I will make it on a large tray with sides the next time though so I can clean up the mess easier. Thanks!!
me and my friend did this but the marshmallows where really hard (before we took it out of the bowl it got to hard) and the fondant was very hard and chewy! we used big marshmallows though would that effect the fondant?
me and my friend did this but the marshmallows where really hard and the fondant was very hard and chewy! we used big marshmallows though would that effect the fondant?
what other alternative can you use instead of vegetable shortening?? coz i can never seem to find vegetable shortening in supermarkets here.. tried to find crisco but i couldn't.. maybe we don't have vegetable shortening here.. pls help me.. i really want to make fondant.. :)
Great video the only recommendation I would make is spread a thick layer of the powdered sugar around your work surface so the marshmallow doesnt hit the counter. Then work the sugar in with out touching the marshmallow.... Works wonders for me!
thanks for the video, may i have some suggestions. when i tried this it didn't turn out like yours. mines was easily broken it looks like clay and when you molded it into a ball mines wasn't smooth or soft looking like yours. and after a few minutes of being in the fridge i gave it a poked and its super hard >.< well it still be okay to just microwave it and use it even though its hard?
@BillyHawj she told you to add water if the mixture breaks too easily. don't put it in the microwave- let it thaw out at room temp, then mix in some water like she said in the video.
This will be my secong fondant cake. 1st how to recipe was to dry. You did a great job explaining indicators of the right consistency. Thanks for the video - I have faith that this batch will turn out great!
@xdani17 no it won't I'm afraid. Soap and water will make it taste like soap and can have a bad reaction with the fondant. Shortening is flavorless and edible and is also pretty inexpensive. You need to use shorening. :)
@ballerinarachet11 lol. I'm a little confused. I was talking about the clean up process after the fondant is already made. How do you clean the counter top from all the shortning that was used on your counter. My boyfriend is a little weary about letting me make fondant right on his counter because of the crisco directly on top. What do you use to clean your counter after every thing is made?
@xdani17 oops! I guess I read that wrong!! I'm sorry! I thought you said you wanted to line the counter with soap. But I made fondant about 2 weeks ago and crisco is very thick and hard to clen off of dishes and counters. I always have problems with the dishes. But the counter I used soapy water made with Dawn soap, and put it in a spray bottle. Spray on a THICK amount and let it sit for about 2-3 minutes then wipe away. You might have to repeat this step again depending on your counter. :)
Can you add flavor? Ex:vanilla ??

@kailamariel plain unsalted butter or sunflower spread would probably work.
TheAinjo 4 months ago
@TheAinjo wouldn't it change the taste??
kailamariel 4 months ago
@kailamariel No, it's just to grease the table/utensils. It isn't for flavour. lol.
TheAinjo 4 months ago
@TheAinjo i know the shortening isn't for flavor.. that's why i asked if the butter will affect the taste..

for those who asked about food coloring, it will work, it will just make a more pastel color even if you use a lot. gels give a more vivid color

i dont have powdered sugar so wat do we use
jan12359 6 months ago
@jan12359 u can blend regular sugar and it turns into powdered sugar
rebeccalynnbean 6 months ago
@jan12359 Powdered sugar is the same as icing sugar. [sugar in a blender does NOT make powdered sugar.
