My lens aperture is no bigger than f4 or f4.5 but I get good results being the subject seperated from the background for some distance. Some photographer s consider f8 or f11 the sweet spot for sharp focus.

Something that is never mentioned in these depth of field videos is that the closer you are to the object in focus the less depth of field you will have. So if you wanted MORE depth of field with a zoom lens you could stay at the same aperature, back up and zoom in. Also APS sized sensors provide more depth of field than film or full-frame sensors.

Oh yea.... Nikon > Cannon. Megapixels and FPS aren't everything ya know.

That lens is necessary IF you want to zoom and remain at f/2.8... impossible to to with a cheap lens, where you'd probably be limited to f/5.6 or so.
