I dont know if I just can't find it, but the video you did on requisite love, I had to come back and comment on the contents of that video. I'm watching Ayn Rand's interview with Mike Wallace, and it got me to thinking about it again with regards to how society has forced a to be self-sacrificing people to the point of losing our own self-reliance. I think in some perfect way it corresponds to the video you made on whether you should be required to have unconditional love.
Ayn Rand has some interesting things to say - I don't agree with her about a lot of stuff and I was Pissed Off when she abandoned the hard-working, dedicated, and uber responsible Eddie WIllers in the middle of nowhere in Atlas Shrugged... ANYWAY, she and I probably agree about unconditional love. We love people for who they are, what they do, how they think, etc.
@Elaina43 exactly, and I believe the exact same things you stated in that response. Just goes to show, you can't be an absolutist when it comes to believing in one person's stance on life and everything there within (ie. I think many people will find parts of Hitchens and parts of Rand beliefs about which they can agree).
We leave behind only a few things to mark our presence, dna, children, thoughts, conversations and opinions. I wonder when we will have the technology to decipher the code of thoughts, enlightenment, conversations that change us to who we are, like we have with the dna now? I think of you in his family tree :)
I commented on a salute to Christopher on Google+. I had said "Thanks for making us think." and added, that his debate was over and now he knew the real answer. A reply to my comment was "..or maybe he doesn't." And that is the one part of the atheist philosophy that makes me sad. The idea that all remains from a life is memory, writing, or (now) video. No "learning curve," just one shot and that's it. I think I prefer Hinduism, Jainism, or the Buddhist concept of reincarnation.
His IQsquared debate, with Stephen Fry along side him (Is the Catholic church a force for good...?) was utter brilliance! He will be missed in this house!
Thanks for the link. Hitch will be missed. He was amazing, in that he had close friends that not only agreed with him but that also disagreed with him on religion. He was okay if you believed something different but he made it very interesting to think about other possibilities. He always made people think and I think that's what made him so special.
It is so sad that Hitch didn't get another 20 years. I just read his friend Ian Mcewan's piece in the Guardian about his last few days because he was with him. His mind was still sharp and he was still writing. He says : 'he burned "with this hard gem-like flame". Right to the end.' He will be missed but his legacy lives on in his work. His memoirs will come out next year.

Great recommendation. His irreverence of things unjustifiably revered will be sorely missed.
Peace.
