  • "f-hole" sounds like some curse word :D

  • "that's not an oil company"

    i lol'd

  • 1,000,000 times better than expertvillage!

  • 'besides taking it on an airplane'

    haha!!

  • Mr, Bailey I like the way your set up to mic that bass I am going to try it out with mine I was wondering what strings you are using I am going to try the La Bella 7710s I play mostly Bluegrass in a Band we are going to record our own CD and are setting up a home Studio now should be ready soon

    Thanks for the post

  • Thanks

  • Great video. I'm gonna explore a few of those suggestions. Especially the foam mount for the interior mic.

I use an underwood through an mxr bass di+ along with an Mxl V69 tube condenser and have been really happy with my tone.

  • a Neumann 103 on the out side a sm 57 on 1 F hole and a small diaphragm condenser on the bridge would also sound really good

  • wtf with the drum covers? :O

  • Also, does anyone know good mic placement for an accordian in a live setting?

  • This video has been very informative!! Thank you so much!!! I want to point out how much clearer the feel translates when you add the clip on mic and get the finger sounds. Bravo!

  • Man hes turning over some good money to get that stuff!!! Congats Steve, You earned it man! what a legendary guy, and a great sense of humour... NIce one! that vid is completely inspiring!

  • «There's none !»

  • Hey, just curious: How loud should the upright be in the mix of a jazz ensemble?

  • loud enough to here the beat but not over powering

  • @jazzybassmasterboy just to where it thumps behind everything

  • oooopps.. i accidently deleted the post commenting on the "cathedral" reverb.... That was an accident, and I was too lazy to recut it.

  • Great video!! I really dig steve's playing. and i love the way he tells jokes like the are part of the explanation, with total continuity... great great

  • Neumann begins with an "N"!

  • thank you!!!

  • No wonder most people just say screw it, buy an electric bass guitar.

  • hahhahaaha... zactly!!

  • @JesusChrist5000 Seriously? Wow...

  • the bass does sound fantastic! It would even sound like a double bass if a little more meat was added. Stevo plays it like it was bass guitar. He is a great player but can tell that double bass is just a hobby.

  • I disagree... the fact that he's not playing the convetional style doent mean hes less a player. I think its really innovative. and if you close your eyes you can hear great music and thats all that maters

  • thanks!!!!

  • thanks!!! Don't tell Dizzy, or Paquito d' rivera, OR Jake Hanna... or..... that its a hobby. ;-)

  • I tried this internal mic trick along with the others and it really did seem to help. I used a tiny omni mic and it sounded surprisingly natural but definitely more bassy oomph than you'd want on it's own.

  • If you cut the foam too thin it'll fall into the bass when you push the microphone in.

Fuck trying to get that out again

  • muddy?

    are you serious?

  • haha i like the "tree house productions" at the beginning. all of this is actually in his tree house. that thing is huge!

  • Great tips on a subject often overlooked by producers and players. Thanks Steve! But what's with the reverb on your voice (6:03) haha

  • great vid

  • Thats not a triangle, its a rectangle hahaha what a legend

  • That`s not a full scale double bass right?

  • It looks to be a 3/4 scale. 4/4 scale is 6 foot 5; so it's definitely not.

  • @fingerboy18 Not all 4/4 basses are the same. I think it's a 5/8 or a petite 3/4

  • what about a 1/4-inch plug-in? would that work instead of M1250?

  • oooh, that is a really nice sound

such a fat sound, but it's got some click, which i like

  • Some great tones, but IMO, the f-hole mic does add warmth but adds too much WOMP WOMP WOMP WOMP.

  • I agree, there's too much air pressure noise on the attack of the note.

  • Is this your account steve?

  • nice demo Steve - thanks!

  • LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!!
