American Muscle cars are only seen in, well, America. the only muscle cars I see out of America are corvette, mustang and camaro and only corvette is used in racing.
Japanese cars on the other hand has 350z, 370z, GT-R R32/33/34/35, Lancer Evo, NSX, S13/14/15, 200/240sx, Supra, WRX STI Impreza...(the list can go on and on but I'm out of remaining characters) and they're everywhere.

The debate over American Muscle or Import will never end. I've learned to respect whatever the owner likes. @LStrucks Not quite true... the 1942 Ford GAA engine with hemispherical combustion chambers, dual overhead cams, 4 valves per cylinder, an aluminum block and heads, steel cylinder sleeves, only 7.5:1 compression, and the crappy gas of 1942 was able to make 1,050 ft lbs of torque on 1,100 cubic inches. That's almost one ft lb per inch, something most engines today don't reach. And with tons of technological advances I already listed that are often considered "modern".
Anyone who thinks that a small displacement engine is better than a large displacement engine is fucking dumb, yes you can get 1000 horsepower out of a two liter but you'll have an engine that's about as stable and durable as a jenga tower and a shitload of turbo lag and you still won't have shit for torque. ricer fanboys need to get off Japans dick and stop decoration their cars with big gay wings and bodykits
@dunstanfarmer While your logic is sound an F1 engine is not a typical small displacement engine. There power that you can potentially make with a larger displacement engine is greater than that of a smaller one. It's all about engine design, a 64 427 cammer is a simple engine, and it still makes better than 600 horsepower and more than 500 foot pounds of torque. It gets shitty mileage but so does an FQ400.

But with larger displacement imports it becomes less of a factor. I completely agree with what your saying, when you're actually building a streetable car displacement isn't really a big deal. But there is a reason that top fuel dragsters aren't 2 liter engines.

@step2then Pretty ignorant thing to say seeing as many tuners are easily pushing as much or more as any American made cars. Don't get me wrong, after 3 Camaros, 2 Mustangs, a Chevelle and a few American trucks I'm all about domestic. But fact is most tuners are capable of equivalent numbers if built properly. Until fairly recently, however, the parts to achieve what they can weren't nearly as readily available as they are now. And I'm not sure why you say we're beat in the turns... mine weren't.
It's amazing to see kids that hate American Muscles watch this video. If you don't like the car, go watch a tuner video. It's as simple as that. These Japanese cars might corner well and look slick, but you try meeting a GTO or Chevelle on the line. Good luck.

When he pulled back the cover it was a 70SS396, all num. matched. Cowl induction, bucket seats SS whls. It was all orig. and nearly rust free. And 4-sale at a very good price to me. Bought it next day, and was so excited i couldnt even sleep that night. It's getting a frame-off restoration now.

And if you look up the factory hp and curb weight of each and compare the power to weight ratios, it should give you an idea of who would have an advantage. However most of those cars nowadays are modified, and there are many variables such as gearing, traction, shifting, etc.

@Mr310Westside According to various sources: 1970 Chevelle SS with a 454 runs the quarter mile in about ~13.7 secs and does 0-60 mph in about 6.1 secs. 1970 Mach 1 with a 428 Cobra Jet runs the quarter mile in about ~13.9 secs and does 0-60 mph in about 5.7 secs. But the numbers are pretty close, so I think it might come down to the traction and driving. Like I said, it would be a good race to see.
@Mr310Westside Torino should be making the same power but weigh more if I'm not mistaken. So, I think the Chevelle might take it in the 1/4 mile. But like I said, there's many variables and it would definitely be an entertaining race to watch.

They attract much more attention than tricked out rice burners, and command more respect. And by the way my 70SS396 Chevelle would love to bark at any Ford Focus, but I warn you- it does bite-and the results will be devastating to that little car.

I'd eat my own grandmother to own a '69 or '70 Chevelle resto-mod . I just can't get excited by an EVO-anything. These little Japanese paint chips masquerading as cars are cute and very fast, no argument here. But when there's pussy on the line, 95% of hot babes agree: they'd rather have their panties off in a rotisserie-restored '69 Charger any day than so much as take their bras off in a 2011 Mitsubishi.

Look, maybe your little drifters are quick, I give you that. But the reason people love muscle cars more is simple: romance. The muscle cars call to mind another era in manufacturing, customizing, hot rodding, cruising, and that gives muscle cars the romantic image that no Japanese car will ever have. American muscle takes a backseat to nothing else on the road. I think a '70 Chevelle, for one, is better looking, sounding, and running than anything Japan or Korea will ever build.

@step2then Pretty ignorant thing to say seeing as many tuners are easily pushing as much or more as any American made cars. Don't get me wrong, after 3 Camaros, 2 Mustangs, a Chevelle and a few American trucks I'm all about domestic. But fact is most tuners are capable of equivalent numbers if built properly. Until fairly recently, however, the parts to achieve what they can weren't nearly as readily available as they are now. And I'm not sure why you say we're beat in the turns... mine weren't.

I always wanted a 70 Chevelle as a teen.I called it my "dream car". My dream came true in 2002 when a buddy said he had one in an old dusty barn, stored since '82. When he pulled back the cover it was a 70SS396, all num. matched. Cowl induction, bucket seats SS whls. It was all orig. and nearly rust free. And 4-sale at a very good price to me. Bought it next day, and was so excited i couldnt even sleep that night. It's getting a frame-off restoration now.

And if you look up the factory hp and curb weight of each and compare the power to weight ratios, it should give you an idea of who would have an advantage. However most of those cars nowadays are modified, and there are many variables such as gearing, traction, shifting, etc.

@Mr310Westside According to various sources: 1970 Chevelle SS with a 454 runs the quarter mile in about ~13.7 secs and does 0-60 mph in about 6.1 secs. 1970 Mach 1 with a 428 Cobra Jet runs the quarter mile in about ~13.9 secs and does 0-60 mph in about 5.7 secs. But the numbers are pretty close, so I think it might come down to the traction and driving. Like I said, it would be a good race to see.

And maybe its my opinion, but they're so much cooler lookin than newer stuff. So- Its very much to brag about. They attract much more attention than tricked out rice burners, and command more respect. And by the way my 70SS396 Chevelle would love to bark at any Ford Focus, but I warn you- it does bite-and the results will be devastating to that little car.
