  • Awesome Ad

  • In '09, after 3 years of not being able to decide what car to get, this ad finally help me get past that indecision.

I finally got a blue r32 and shes been a faithful companion since.

ps the punch line or word so to say was when he says George in the end, and well my dats my name ...it really shook me up inside.

  • DDB ads are sort of brilliant. ad as art.

  • A "City Boy" through and through lol

  • Id love to hear his story with the napkin.

  • lol

  • Great advert which shows how some twats are in the world. By the way, for those who don't know, that's Freddie Mercury's "The Great Pretender" song (but redone for this advert of course)

  • the original's done by the platters in the 50's. look em up

  • Thanks for pointing that out. Stil think Mercury's version's better that the Platters now that I've heard it though!

  • this makes me lol so hard

  • very good

  • I really love this ad

gave me goosebumps the first time i saw it..

    thats sad

  • Hehehe just realised that's the actor who plays Prince Wendell in 10th Kingdom.

  • This advert made me buy a golf, but after nine months of it pinking and making spupid squeeking sounds every time I turned the key, I traded it for a Fiesta S, and haven't looked back!(OK i've no powered mirrors)

Sorry guys, but the build quality is gone.

  • hi is there anyone who has the audio?

    jennyb

  • wow.... this is amazing!

    favorites...

    love,luv,<3

  • I'm so glad someone put this up on YouTube. I looove this ad!

    p.s. that guy is hot.

  • thats a bit harsh he's only an actor

  • i used to listen to this over and over again (back in the day) lol

  • I love this ad!

  • obviously based on some of the prats that I work with everyday. All style and no content. perceptive ad.

  • I love this advert- I just never (and still don't) get it.

  • "The Power of Understatement". It means you don't need to drive a flash car and be a cocky arrogrant jerk (but actually insecure and unhappy at heart) in life. A VW Golf is understated and more impressive for the guy who is successful and truly self-assured.

    Or something like that :)

  • thanks =]

  • Did they ever release a single version of this?

The one in this ad a lot more than all the other versions of the great pretender.

  • It's a greatest Ad and touching my heart...what a life..

  • agree with most the people on here, its a great AD,every time i watch it on telly i cant stop smiling :)

  • really good

  • Love this ad... fantastic. Best one this year by far.

  • masterpiece.. dont pretend it isnt..

  • this is great!

  • This advert is amazing, if anyone wants the music its done by Adrian Sutton.

  • Looks and sounds like Daniel Lapaine to me!

  • The storyline is, the guy loves to be in the spotlight of anything, and he is too annoying that people leave him alone (see the two guys refuse his offer in the office and the girl's face during the dinner scene), then the guy sees himeself in a more understated version and feel bad.

  • i seriously don't get it?... cool music though

  • Its about an attitude to life not often seen nowadays in this gutless society. Sometimes life is crap and most people whinge and moan about it -look at the Jeremy Kyle show. A few others just get on with it and put on a jolly exterior despite their sadness inside. Its called "Stiff Upper Lip" "Dunkirk Spirit" "True Grit" etc etc etc......

  • Nice one mate.

  • awesome!

  • This is my favourite ad EVER! i love it!

    : )

  • Who sings the song, very moving and a great ad.

  • I read somewhere that it the actual guy in the ad who sang this version of the Great Pretender... if it was then he does a good job of it. I think the actor is Daniel Lapaine.

  • It is indeed the very talented Daniel Lapaine and he also sings on this particular vesrion of the song.

  • @Pompeyman17 I think your right it sounds like daniel lapaine, not Adrian sutton as rumoured. I concurr he does :-)

  • theres a lot of people in the world that are like that

  • It took me a couple of viewings of this on the telly to fully realise that he sees an alternate version of himself. At first I thought he was longing after an ex-boyfriend!

  • What I meant to say was HOW nice to see an non-irritating car commercial!.

  • Really thought provoking. House nice to see a

    non-irritating car commercial.

  • Classic

  • That's a great ad

  • Nice one DDB!
