i remember when i got this done, they gave me a sedative, which is only ment to make you sleepy, but seriously withing 10 seconds after getting a sedation for this i was out for the count =/
Fml. I know this is painless but im super nervous. I mean who doesn't get nervous? I guess its normal. Im 16 and getting a colonoscopy and endoscopy on next monday. Hope everything goes fine! I know after the procedure is done i will be like "wtf? I was all nervous for this shit?" but it is what it is! Lol
I'm 14 and I've had this done so many times! The first time I got it was when I was 5 so if I could do it when I was 5 anyone can do it :) nobody should worry bout it they give you an iv and the drugs knock you out completely then u wake up when its done. I've had extremely severe acid reflux, delayed stomach emptying, gastritis, and colitis since I was born so this little procedure is nothing. Getting one tomorrow w/partial colonoscopy. Hoping to get surgery soon to fix my mess of problems :)
people, i suffer from anxiety. and i had to get an upper endoscopy done, today 6-10-11. let me tell you that their is nothing to be afraid of. i was giving an iv to start the process, after about 15 minutes i was taken into the endoscopy room . they tell you to lay on your side, that is all i remember. woke up in the recovery room feeling fine. no pain at all. guess what that f***ng anxiety went away. i am posting this for people that need to get this done. only the strong will survive!
@zombie4life100 It was fine. going to the dentist is worse... you'll be fine. :D goodluck.. PS you will have a little pain in your throat later for a couple days. nothing to be worried about.
had one yesterday and worried about it for weeks almost cancelled it! not so bad as you imagine,I had sedation and was conscious, didn't feel worried discomfort was minimal
It was very quick,in my case it was nothing serious,Gastritus, untreated it could lead to a more serious condition later on.
I am so glad I had it and dont worry anymore, that only makes it worse.
It's really no big deal. When I had mine, the sedative kicked in before they inserted the endoscope. Afterwards, I was very tired and slept most of the day, but after I woke up, I felt absolutely fine and went out with friends that evening. No sore throat or any other problem. If you have GERD, it's important to get the exam to make sure you don't have cancer or a precancerous condition.
ha they gave me something called "happy juice" that made me forget everything. Gosh, it tasted gross! Btw, they do put you asleep. they used an IV to put me asleep. then the next thing you know, your in a bed at the hospital with your parents next to you. this surgery is no big deal. the worst that happens is tha you get a weird sore throat for a couple days, its not like a sick sore throught, but is just really uncomftorable. (The doctor gave me ice cream after i recovered... YUM!)
i'm only 15 and i have to get this. i'm really scared. i know it's painless but i have never had any tube of any sort go down my throat at all, and i'm terrified :((

I'm 14 as well. i have to get this done in like 2 months. im really scared. i dont like when anything comes near the back of my throat. and i dont want to throw up either.
hey im 14 too and im going to get it done soon and im scared too......i had a dream that the drowsy medication wares off and i was awake the entire time.....ik this cant happen but i still think about it.......what do u need to do it for? whats the reason?
I am 14 and I had this, it was not that bad. I had no pain whatsoever afterwards and was not sore. I did not have a bad throat or difficulty swallowing. Overall, painless procedure.
@mauribest1 Well, in my personal experience, it completely changed my life...I went from having very severe symptoms to having my problems diagnosed and basically solved. I now take some tablets twice a day as it turns out I have ulcerative colitis. Obviously it doesn't solve many problems, it just finds them, and things move on from there. =) Hope I could provide some help.

Nowadays specialist will complete the treatment within 3-5minutes now instead of 15-20minutes, but you will sleep for atleast 2-3hrs.

@mauribest1 And my problem was in my bowel, not my upper gut, so I'm not sure how helpful I can be.
