  • brilliant

  • 2 person suddenly died while watching this

  • Either Gershwin was the most tan dude alive or he wore a little black face.

  • he was a strange one

  • due to the overused comment, i am appealing against "2 people dont have rhythm"...when it should be "2 people dont 'got' rhythm" xD

  • 2 people dont have rhythm

  • Gershwin could really "tickle the ivories" as my grandmother used to say.

    Thank you sharing. ;))

  • in my opinon, i like it when pianos sound like this. crisp =

  • awesome!!!! thanks

  • Great! Thank you!

  • If you are playing this for your diploma exam, thumbs up!

  • Anything better than a Gershwin song? A Gershwin song.... As Oscar Levant said" George if you had to do it all over again would you fall in love with yourself?"... Love it..

  • Bon Anniversaire Lord of Modern Musikk-.-

  • Happy Birthday to you sir, Mr. Jacob Gershowitz

  • Gershwin good as usual

  • what's that intro thing? awesome recording!

  • He's Amazing! Period!

  • find this score for free in our website :) olcbarcelonamusic.load.cd

  • gods so very good

  • OHHH Gershwin LIVE

  • Fantastic clip! Wonderfully played.

  • George!!!!!!!!!!!!!I Love You!!!!!!!!!!!

  • we're all indebted to the Gershwin brothers for providing the World with fantastic musical compositions, which have been used by countless thousands of musicians eversince...especially Art Tatum

  • i could do that if i wanted to....i just dont want to.

  • Does anyone have an idea if this material is copyrighted?

  • I do hope the original film is well preserved and buried deep inside some climate controlled mountain somewhere ....With a TOP SECRET on the location!

  • this is goodass

  • he doesn't really keep time..

  • @pointreyes6 earless motherfucker hope you get squirrell aids

  • @pointreyes6 earless motherfucker go suck bieber's dick and stop talking bullshit

  • Two earless people!

  • Great footage of Gershwin performing - he does make it look easy! Thank you for posting. Considering what a great artist Gershwin was, it's amazing to me that the film/recording industry didn't produce some high-quality footage of him performing his own works. It could be that he simply didn't have time.

  • He makes it look so easy

  • hey people.. pianomasterbrandon actually has a video of him playing this piece and its not bad at all.. its just much more simple than this arrangement obviously..

  • @Cypres Actually, I think a number of us (myself included) already viewed that. I agree with your assessment, actually.

  • 2 people dont have rhythm

  • 2 people dont have rythmn

  • @Hamster3107 One person is prone to redundancy.

  • WOW lol

  • Only Gershwin can be better than George Gershwin.

  • @michaelnyman1 The only person who could maybe surpass, George Gershwin, is Ira Gershwin.

  • @wolfthehunter65 Ira was foremost a great lyracist who had a nearly-perfect symbiosis with his brother, George. They fed off each other's strengths to produce great songs. Ira did not read musical notation. George did not write lyrics. So your comment is somewhat idiotic.

  • @madamerotten I didn't say anything about that. But you are right.

  • @wolfthehunter65 Sorry. I typed adjacent to the wrong comment. I was addressing "michaelnyman1." My apologies!

  • Definitely an all-time great!

  • i wish there was more footage of him playing piano

  • 1 person doesn't have rhythm.

  • @Uberkiddie123 One person hates Jesus.

  • @CliffX

God plays off the beat (?)

  • @Uberkiddie123 bahaha that made me lol :p

  • @Uberkiddie123

now they are two of them....

  • The sheet music for this notates the part from 0:45 onwards in the key of F. In this video Gershwin plays it in G flat. Is it possible the video was sped up?

(Nothing against Gershwin btw -- his technique was fabulous. Just curious)

  • @cubsfan334 Two different cameras were recording at different speeds. The second was recording at a faster speed than the first. There used to be a video posted on youtube with the differing speeds corrected, but due to copyright violations or some crap, it was removed a little over a year ago. I have yet to find it elsewhere.

  • @cubsfan334 Re your comment on pitch change: the original video (the source of this video) which I was kindly given by Gershwin's biographer Edward Jablonski, has this same pitch change. It's caused by the two sound cameras running at different speeds, with an edited-in 4 bar repeat to try to disguise the awkward pitch change. You can see the original, unedited version with corrected pitch by searching "Gershwin plays I Got Rhythm (New York 1931)"

  • @pianomasterbrandon1 show off :D

  • @pianomasterbrandon1

so post a video of you playing this piece then.

  • @pianomasterbrandon1 I find your statement incredibly dubious. You strike me as a kid with a mediocre talent at the piano who is trying to sound like a precocious, awe-inspiring child prodigy by down-playing the true complexity of this music, all under the veil of anonymity of youtube. If I'm wrong, please, show me and post your own video of you playing.

  • @wamlf6571 It is already on. Go to robertgetter1. It is the first link.

  • @pianomasterbrandon1 cool story bro,

  • @pianomasterbrandon1 you don't play it nearly as well, son. sorry. i'm sure you will in time though.

  • @pianomasterbrandon1 You miss the point; the thing is that not only did Gershwin write this piece and perform it with a lot more rhythmical verve than is common nowadays, but he seems to have added in a lot of improvised elements in this particular performance.

  • @pianomasterbrandon1 Don't even think for a nanosecond that your rendition comes close. You have a long way to go, and an inflated ego will not be your greatest asset.

  • abyone notice Paul Whiteman in the background?

  • thank you for sharing:)

  • Jazz done white!

  • He lived ...He played...who could ask for anything more?

  • OMG he plays it only in 1 minute ++!!!

  • just why did he die so early :(

  • @mcgoergl Gershwin had a brain tumor that went undiagnosed for a long time. By the time it was discovered, ti was too late to save him, as it was too far advanced.

  • @mcgoergl he loved coke...

  • Comment removed

  • Great! Why nobody ( even he) doesn't play the first part - the verse?

  • Hosti, tú, el mismísimo Gershwin!!

  • I he himself, can't believe in my eyes

  • This interpretation is amazing as a solo or instrumental. Although, C3POmeetsData has a point about this being rushed (If there were vocals included). In this setting, I think George's arrangement and energy are perfect. George Gershwin was heavily influenced by the jazz of the day; which on a piano would be stride. This piece, and many others of his, are perfect templates for stride piano.

  • if this doesn't prove he's the greatest pianist of all time, i don't know what does.

  • a big composer lastimma que murio muy joven fuckin seeks!!

  • Don't get me wrong, This is a beautiful interpretation, but it's not disrespectful to think he is not the best interpretor of his own work. He himself said that jazz and showtunes should not be rushed. Is a play-write the best actor in his own plays? Is an automotive engineer the best driver? How many famous song writers are there that were made famous by other people singing their songs? I'm just saying, this song would sound better on a different style.

  • @C3P0meetsData You should hear his ownn recording of the Rhapsody in Blue. It is over and done with in less than 10 minutes....

  • @C3P0meetsData I agree. When you consider the history of this piece in totality, Merman, in her lyrical interpretation, is also a great force in making it so popular.

  • George and Ira produced some legendary tunes including this one. His piano playing on this is great. It's like Jerry Lee Lewis at times! :-) Really looking forward to the "Brian Wilson Reimagines Gershwin" CD in August as Wilson and Gershwin is fabulous combination of musical genius from different eras.

  • thats so incredible!!!

  • Nobody can play this song in this fantastic way. He is not a jazz musician, but a classical one using the base of American jazz.

  • @composer54 hahaha Gershwin is a russian lol

  • I am learning this song right now but it is sooooo hard!!!!!

  • pure talent

  • I'm the 22,000th view! if this ticker is correct.. oh yeah, and I LOVE GERSHWIN!!!!

  • Talk about being a master of syncopation....

  • check out my rendition of I've Got Rhythm! Gershwin is the best!

  • wow! ive never seen a video pf him acctually playing this is awesome!

  • Wow, it's the first time I've seen video of Gershwin at the piano, what a treat! As with Rachmaninoff, there's just something special about hearing the composer play his own works.

  • Check out my rendition of this song and my Trubute to Rhapsody in Blue on the Rhapsody Steinway!

  • Gershwin IMORTAL!

    Bravo!

  • Dang.. im playing this song... i got the first page... but the rest sounds over my head.... GO GERSHWIN!!!!!!!!!

  • Haha, I know the feeling, as soon as it gets to 0:46 I just lose my fingers :)

  • im not gonna lie i love this song, just that i like it a little slower (and thats what she said)

  • THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER!!!!!

  • 本人なんデスねー☆★

  • epic

  • haha great ending "aaaaaand i'm done, bitches."

  • lol! :D

  • Epochal. And in front of an audience, yet. I wonder what Willie the Lion Smith would thought of him, would have thought of this?

  • one of my all time favorite composers

  • Wow, the great man himself!

  • Great indeed! Just think what he could have written had he lived another thirty years!

  • Look at the two members of the orchestra-not even paying attention!

  • @antoniodcz, I agree with you. I was mesmerized when I saw that the picture was actually moving! I have never seen him play, just heard him (I am a VERY big fan and I listen to him every morning) and I knew this was really rare!

  • Wow! Very nice-thanks for sharing!
