Let's see, only one stand so far, which is unfinished, pit buildings unfinished, tarmac missing at least one layer, no curbs, no run-off zones, no support buildings, no track demarcations, unfinished side walls et cetera et cetera, they want to finish this in 5 weeks ? Doubtful ...
awesome.....Karun gave us an excellent demonstration....the track is not even finished yet...you can clearly see you can overtake in the first section
Did I see raised edges on the Kerbs. If they are there I can see tyre damage and even rim damage under full throttle racing. Other than that a good Go-Kart track for F1
Umm that doesn't look finished to me. There are only a few weeks to go, I hope they pull it off.
He's running on extreme wets where he could go on intermediates sure but bear in mind the track is like a building site right now. He would probably have liked to have gone out in a JCB.
alot of the kerbs have a step on them making them impossible to drive over and behind the kerbs there is a drop off of a few inches which will be lethal if anyone goes over them. On the big straght there is also alot of gaps in the concrete wall, another danger that could prove lethal if anyone hits them while flat out
OMG... I can see red clay & soil on both sides of the main straight and it seems that they need to asphalt one or two more layers. Moreover, almost all escape zones like gravel, green, and sand trap are still under construction or... do they just forget to make them? I think F1GP should NOT be held in such a country like Korea which has no motor sports culter and people can enjoy sports only for nationalism. F1GP is not such a sport which Korean can enjoy.
@tcskibike - I imagine that if he were using slicks it would or could constitute a test in violation of the ban. Also, the car is a 2009 that did not run on slicks and possibly there were no slicks of the right size available. Maybe, also, Red Bull wanted to make sure Karun couldn't push too hard and go off?
i think if they hurry up and put some plants in it will be a good track...i want green and the blocks
honestly i love the first big straight with the blocks and the wire...its very intimidating for the drivers imagine all them flying down that could see some good action...i also like that you can see where the tracks leading ...should allow for some proper racing, less tight turns a no overtaking points. lets see the power put down, and do some overtaking.
The last part of the track seems to be quite boring... like all the other new tracks of Herman Thiele... They should stop creating new boring tracks and go back to the roots: Zandvoorth, Silverstone, Spa, Kyalamy... all the good old nature tracks... We have more racing on the old tracks and on some of them you need balls to drive a good lap, like Spa or Monza or Imola...
Another reason why I don't watch F1 anymore. What a boring circuit you might as well run on the M25 or M6 they are more interesting I will stick with classic sports racing in future.
i hope they spent some money on some mexicans to do a rain dance because that circuit doesn't tickle my fancy, or we could just ask Vettel to keep crashing into people, that's fun to watch aswell :D
Don't envy Chandhok running a car he's never driven before on a track he's never seen before, which is clearly unfinished, and on tires that could never do a quick lap. Clearly the goal was to get around without going off and scream past the start/finish for the benefit of the audience. But even so, his braking points were a little conservative and those concrete walls had him worried. Not sure I could have restrained myself so well and fairly sure I would have schnoted it! Good job Karun!
I'm shocked. Will someone please tell me they're not really going to hold an F1 race at a building site. There is only 6 weeks until the race. They will REALLY have to pull their fingers out.
The Circuit looks far from over and very bumpy as well. you can even see patches at the last corner leading to the start-finish straight. And surprised to see weather like Spa where it rains at one part of the track. And Karun seems to be tempted to ride the kerbs : ) :). Race day will reveal the true picture.
I dont see any place to overtake..... hate those tilke circuits...hairpins ..... formula 1 is becoming pathetic ...... look what they have done to Hockenheim , now these new circuits only look good from infrastructure perspective but no place to see two cars side by side.... even the new texas circuit looks more technical..
the tracks the people and the drivers like are the classic ones like silverstone, monza, spa, maybe old hockenheim, wich are all highspeed tracks not with too much corners.
why the hell do they always build these tracks with the stupid parts where noone can overtake, very slow parts. the drivers have to use much wings.
Fascinating to see this new track still in development. The twisty section looks kind of mickey-mousy to me, only a few interesting spots for drivers I suspect, like the straight that goes uphill before the hairpin. I miss seeing some long, sweeping turns like Spa and Monza. New tracks don't have them it seems. Maybe too much tire wear and too dangerous. As such, looking forward to Monza this weekend!
@TheMitsuzuki that low kerbing? I noticed it too - I think it's merely a concrete apron along the edge of the asphalt - and it appears as kerbing because the very last "top coat" of fresh asphalt hasn't yet been applied? This is purely speculation/guess on my part. I've seen this done in "new area" construction in parts of the USA. It's a means to prevent construction traffic damage to the top coat...
Thought it was an RB5 - last year's car? Sounded good though. Not looking forward to 2013 - 4 or 6 cylinder turbos - have you heard GP3 cars - they drone! Still a lot to do in Korea, but knowing what they are like, they will flood the place with thousands of guys in orange overalls and work round the clock between now and Friday Practice 1 !
@hedleyyou 1.6 L 4 cylinder engine with ground effect looking cars and pushed forward side pods plus KERS, yuk. might as well call it formula Indy. maybe i can join i have a civic hybrid its got all the specs required.
The track looks good (considering it isn't finished yet), pity about the engine noise from the Red Bull Showcar. Wonder if it has been detuned to make more audible noise for the fans? Cheers.
the track is not yet ready.... bumps all the way....I hope they work it out or else it would be like the pathetic singapore track. The singaporean F1 race is the most boring race in the calender.. they should chuck it out.
@bozothebushrat vigilhammer is right: Singapore is the worst circuit, closely followed by Bahrain and Valencia. This one looks as if it is following in that mould...
This track is going to be soooo slippy if theres wet weather. The last 2 sectors are pretty damn technical, not sure if there are many places to overtake there, but I can see cars trying to get as close to the front runner before the long straight and doing some slipstreaming there.
Turn 17 (the one that exits onto the S/F straight) looks just amazing onboard.
So much power in F1 car just waiting to be unleashed. Too bad there won't be any V10's in an official event. Anyway it will be interesting to see how much speed can RedBull carry thru that sector of corners.
Most likely because there is virtually no grip on the track ie, theres no rubber laid down from other cars and heaps of dust on the the surface still looks pretty rough aswell would probably shred slick tyres pretty quick.
V10, engine braking, Ohh heaven, I would like to ask Karun the difference even to the 205 redbull V hispania, I would say both would be close on performance, both were terrible cars, either way a very likable guy, and a great personality got an opportunity to drive a F1 car, when his own team won't. I think that was amazing by redbull to do that, have u heard karun on 5 live? hes a great commentator, only because he loves it just like Anthony Davidson, those2 deserve to be in F1
considering what it looked like 4 weeks ago it's amazing.. hope they make the pit exit a bit larger for race day though.. or then again, maybe not. I think it is due a couple more layers of tarmac too..
Interest to see than Karun needs to use wet weather tyres due to the very dirty track surface. Looks like they still have a hugh amount of work to do. I have faith....
@il2405 They are demonstration tyres I believe, and a hugh amount of work is far from the truth, by the looks of it the 99% of the track has been completed, they just need to put up a few more barriers (day or two to do) and in general give the place a lick of paint, construction sites never look finished until (this will blow your mind) they are actually finished!!!!!
After watching some footage of the track, looks amazing and I really cant wait. If only there were a Korean driver, but I really hope Hamilton and Button can bring a 1-2 for McLaren here.
@k1llmebill it's a new track, unfinished, and only a demo run. plus the tyres he has on are not racing spec, nor near it. he'd be an utter idiot if he pushed as if it was a race. there's no point.
@Scavneck First time ever in the car and at the track, also doubt Hispania would have it in a simulator yet. And the track surface is in terrible condition, also to dry for inters in some places, so pushing to hard would dmg the tyres too much. And actually, looking at the end I think he took to much out of the tyres anyway
@Scavneck: The track isn't finished yet so there's very little grip. Also, as the curbing isn't finished (it's very sharp), he can't use it and so has to stick to a very tight line.
