  • Sublime!!!!

  • I prefer Tatiana Troyanos' version but still this is very beautiful , especially the recitative !! Would love to hear the whole performance

  • Wonderful -- ideal sound & feeling for this aria. Just wish she hadn't done the portamento at the end of the A section: doesn't work emotionally or stylistically. And of course the A section should have been reprised. But back then no one was performing Handel opera is this country. Why some enterprising company didn't immediately book a studio recording of this is a mystery to me.

  • I LOVE how Leontyne's voice arrives right on time, and what a gorgeous voice! Glad to know that Handel was being performed as long ago as the 1950s!

  • so soothing and relaxing...

  • What a voice, she is amazing.

  • Her dynamics are amazing.

  • O la la la la....

  • great singing..

    Grande Leontyne

  • @celesteaida48 anche per me.

  • SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL!

  • This is as good as my favorite version by Sutherland. I am very happy to have come across it. Thanks to whoever posted it.

  • Yes, thanks for this post. Please post her Berlioz song cycle.

  • Leontyne's voice is in it's infancy-so powerful and dynamic (off the scale with mic), ease with scaling and so gentle. What makes this dramatic performance incredible is the LP is paying attention to every single note even to the softer gentle notes which you do not hear often when the role of Cleopatra is performed. "....Tu da pace a miei tormenti, o quest' alma spirero." Thank you. Another great video.

  • very fine comment!

  • Pure gold.
