i like this host he comes across as a dead relaxed down to earth person most tv show hosts come across as they love them selves and the show is really about them
Gervais is always funny. He doesn't even have to try to be funny, and even when he's not laugh out loud funny, he's constantly entertaining and engaging. The most natural man interviewed I've ever seen, his individual interviews are like little episodes of comedy in themselves.
I have a terrible internet connection and there is an unskippable 50 second advert trying to play. So far I've been here for 2 minutes and haven't started the actual video yet. Google can fuck right off for making me wait
hmm this Stromboulopoulos is quite good he didnt make Gervais look like such of a div. sometimes interviewers make him seem like he's up his own bum and a touch manic
Im a huge Ricky Gervais fan but i dont know how he can put down other movies and turn down roles when every movie hes been in has been complete shit, sorry but its true, theyve all been average or below with short moments of humour
George looks like he wouldn't be out of place smoking weed outside a nu metal gig yet he comes across as a very intelligent and quick interviewer. not one of these fools who has to look at the cards all the time.
This is one of the shows where you actually like the host.
He's just honest and genuine, all a host needs to be.
As for Gervais, he's been seriously slouching of late with material but he's still a comic genius. He is the Tyson of comedy, he was just built for it.
I find it strange how americans find just the way we talk funny.. When Ricky says "Jawline....everything" the crowd laughs. That is a very normal way of speaking to a brit.. lol. I see the same with russell brand. That americans find the melody of his speech funny..
@channelyourvoice this is a canadian show filmed in toronto, so it's likely that the audience is mostly canadian. but yes, we canadians find british speech patterns amusing as well :P
@didi1194 Its funny you should reply. I have just finished watching ' Get him to the greek' with russell brand . I remember thinking that this is the only time I have seen a film with a brit in, where said brit is allowed to speak as he would normally speak.
I know,I wish they'd show this show in the states. I'm from California but I have some family up in Vancouver and I watch this show whenever I'm there. He's a lot better than some of the US of A's so called 'interviewers'
George is awesome! I went to school in the CTV building where I think they shoot this, and he would always be there. I was walking a couple meters behind him once, pretty far away actually, and he was on the phone. He stopped and held the door open for me since my hands were full. Nobody else has ever done that for me in Toronto. Great interviewer and great person!
George is a great interviewer, we need more people like him. I'd take George over Leno any day.
I don't know what its like for Brits, but in Canada we get absolutely drowned by American TV content, so its nice to have a legitimately good alternative.

lol, the best shows always win. if canadians watch leno more than canadian shows, then that means they like American tv more. i understand the Americanization of canada is overwhelming for a lot of canadians, but im just saying that people are free to choose what they like. so since canadians watch American movies, music, tv the most, that means its the best.

sorry folks gervais is shit - if you're looking for comic talent look to people like Stephen Fry, Rowan Atkinson, Reeves & Mortimer and other genuinely 'funny' people.
The fact that he's won comedy awards simply shows how shit comedy has been for years.
The office was about as funny as having your balls set alight.
He's to comedy what beckham is to football - grossly overrated & pissing his pants that people take it in.
this is one of the best interviews with ricky gervais, someone who gets him and seems to be interested.not just reading from a card like most people who interview him.
He kind of is arrogant but maybe 90% of it is for comedic response alone. He is exceptionally media savvy and knows that bragging about your awards/looks/success is not the done thing but he does it anyway. He did XFM for years after he hit it big with the office. A local radio show, 2 hours a week isnt publicity. He did it because it was his "favourite part of the week" (Rickie's own words). That might be because of Pilkoids though. I would treasue 2 hours a week with Pilky
I think the people that see him as arrogant mistake his characters fro his personality. I wonder how many of them ever actually spoke to him in person. I myself couldn't care less what he's like in real life. Chances are I'll never meet him. What I do care about is his humour, and boy oh boy, that's first class!
usually i hate stroumbo but this is actually a good interview. -ricky has a real nice demeanor here, in most of his other talk show appearances it seems more like work than a conversation.....i like how he's showing his audience respect by not just regurgitating a bunch of old stories for 'stupid laughs'.
the whole comedy of the office is based on the confined walls of what you can and cannot say to be socially acceptable. the 'cringe' moments are what make it so classic! because of the documentary theme the characters cant hide from the embarrasment of social fou pas or poor reception to their jokes! people who struggle to see the humour in that should stick to the pie in the face gags!!!!!!!
that was a perfectly good interview, is this just the yanks banging on because its a canadian bloke? and they are so programmed to their piss weak watered down crack pot television that something worth watching just doesnt compute?
i just don't cringe easily. plus you cringe when you identify with something - i guess the office and the characters are a little too distant from me personally. i do find it brilliant though
haha English interviews by people "good" enough to be on television are generally structured coherent actually interesting. These seem to be points where most american interviewers seriously lack. Chin up boy.
Are you Irish/Canadian like? I can never understand why that stuff really matters to people, it just seems stupid and overly patriotic to be counting celebrities of your nationality. Whenever I see people do that for Britain I can't help feel embarrassed for them - it just smacks of insecurity.
You're not just a twat, you're a prejudiced twat - which goes along nicely with your archaic beliefs that only British people get rowdy over football. Have a quick look at the rest of Europe when you break past that barrier of ignorance, okay?
I don't mind a bit of patriotism, but your type usually goes along with moronic xenophobia as you've so perfectly displayed.
I could start insulting Canada, but I'm not a tosser who attributes single negative characteristics to one certain country.
lol... so some people are a little obsessed with football. as if nobody else in any other country have some kind of obsession? im proud that im british. I love england, proud to be here even if it's got some problems. better than being in some boring ass country like canada. there's nothing interesting about your shitty country.
I could be wrong, but you chose to capitalise only one of the I's in your comment and not the other. Could be the fact you're an arrogant ass-hat, I don't know.
Actually, I'm British, so I 'get' what Ricky Gervais is all about. I just didn't think he was on form here - I see my opinion has elicited firm disapproval...5 'thumbs down'?! Wow, hey, it's all good, it's just my opinion.
I think George is so, so good at what he does, I could watch him for hours...
Lol i love the way on Youtube where everyone gets really properly angry at other peoples comments, and then unleash their best swear words at the person lol. just watch the clip and get on with your life you fucking douche bag cunting prick fudger grrrrr....
this show host is really good, i didnt think i would watch the whole thing but the questions he asks and the responses he gets make it really intriguing. good stuff canada!
He doesn't say he's half Canadian for a cheer or a "whoop".... he can get them without saying that. British people aren't like Americans or Canadians who go "oooo he's from the same place as me....let's cheer for him".... far from it infact. Ricky Gervais is one of the most talented writers in the world, he doesn't have to stoop to low rate attempts for a cheer. Also, Parky has retired.
i think this video is so good cos yeh he does crack the jokes and stories but you can see that he really does appreciate where he is and how he got there. but he has worked so hard to get there.
he is an absolute genius! worldwide. so glad he went over to america because he is the embodiment of english humour and the definition of sarcasm. LEGEND
HE IS NOT UP HIMSELF! PEOPLE THAT SAY THAT CLEARLY DON'T GET HIS STYLE.
Ricki Gervais is taking the piss out of himself, yes he is a genius, but he's taking the piss out of the entertainment industry when he brags about his awards. What's he supposed to do when people drop names and que him to promote himself, he just turns it round and pretends to be up his own arse.
Infamous Canadian hacker MafiaBoy will be doing his first ever television interview on the October 8th edition of The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos.

actually, I thought he was pretty unfunny in this interview, and a little 'out of sync'.
George on the other hand...come to Mama!

Let me ask you are you american.
Because its most probably a result of an american sense of humor raher than Rickys Funnyness.

I agree with you in such that Ricky was not really trying to bring the funny like he does with the American late night shows
that's why i could watch George for hours as well, he actually has a conversation.with a guest and some really cool information comes out.

LEGEND
seanburgess87 3 years ago
Its a common mistake to confuse the words "Sarcasm"and "Irony",but there really is an important difference.
romber58 3 years ago
considering "Sarcasm" is also known as "Verbal Irony" there isn't much of a difference, so, y'know...

Ricki Gervais is spot on
