Ok I'm confused.. In the cartoons I remember mystique saving night crawler from someone. She ran away with him but put him in a river to save him... I'm confused

Its doubtful they cared about the mother son relationship with all the care put into these "worthy" fan service adaptations. They killed off Sabortooth without personal knowledge of each other, with so many other characters, like DeathStrike. Yeah, with the trend, I can count "Blob" and so many more.
Only just a few of them have some meaningfull development, but very little after this.

I think, that NC does not know, that Mystique is his mother. Mystique may know it, but she doesn´t tell him in the movie because I think, that she wanted to kill him when he was baby, didn´t she? And he was saved by his father, Azazel. At least in comic history...

Azazel is a demon, not a mutant, if I remember correctly. He shows up again in the comics. Nightcrawler was raised in a circus by a German women and her family. I don't think he know's. I can't remember how he finds out...

Azazel is a teleporter, thus explaining why Nightcrawler is a teleporter, if the gene is carried over from the father. I really hope we're gonna see some amazing fight scenes with that guy in First Class! :)

@mjfreaklove The gene has different effect on every person. For example, Bobby's (Iceman) parents are not mutants, and what about Scott (Cyclops) and his brother Alex? they dont share the same power. Mystique is Kurt's mother, I dont remember who is the father but I think it was Sabertooth (but I can be wrong, it was years ago since I was reading the comic series, and my memory is not so good after all :) )

And a lot of things in the timeline was messed up. Like Emma Frost was a teenager in Wolverine's movie. Beast still looked human in X2. In the director´s comments on the DVD, they do talk about not wanting to go into detail with Mystique and Nightcrawler being mother and son in the comics for purpose of not wanting to complicate the movie.
Instead they just game them this scene together.
You also need to consider that X2´s running time already does exceed 2 hours considering that the story of one of the movie´s main plot parts, Wolverine´s Origin, has only but slightly begun to be revealed & put on film.
The Mystique character clearly shows how a person can become an absolute fanatic. If you listen to her long enough you'll start to agree with her despite KNOWING she's actually doing terrible things. By far my favorite character in the X-men universe.

@mjfreaklove The gene has different effect on every person. For example, Bobby's (Iceman) parents are not mutants, and what about Scott (Cyclops) and his brother Alex? they dont share the same power. Mystique is Kurt's mother, I dont remember who is the father but I think it was Sabertooth (but I can be wrong, it was years ago since I was reading the comic series, and my memory is not so good after all :) )

Because we shouldnt have to. That is one of the most powerful sentences out of villains in any movie I have seen. She also said in the first Xmen movie ''people like you are the reason I was afraid to go to school when I was a child. ''.
What i love about Xmen universe is that its filled with moral choices and consiquences in a very realistic manner.

Plus, they would have had to include Rogue and Mystique's relationship...and Rogue and Nightcrawler....I think the director just wanted to keep it simple - something the average viewer with no comic book knowledge could enjoy!

@wyrmqueen I read in an IGN interview that the writers/those involved were well aware that Havoc is Scott's brother and that the timelien is messed up, yet they disregarded it given how it's a new movie. Or at least something to that effect, as I'm sure they didn't intend on making Havoc Scott's father.

@ShirtlessLocke But I read that they are still going to connect Havok with Cyclops in the movie universe, so the logical conclusion is making him Scott's father. And a lot of things in the timeline was messed up. Like Emma Frost was a teenager in Wolverine's movie. Beast still looked human in X2. If they really are doing an X4 and they're bringing back most of the old cast, I don't know how they are going to do it.

In the director´s comments on the DVD, they do talk about not wanting to go into detail with Mystique and Nightcrawler being mother and son in the comics for purpose of not wanting to complicate the movie.
Instead they just game them this scene together.
You also need to consider that X2´s running time already does exceed 2 hours considering that the story of one of the movie´s main plot parts, Wolverine´s Origin, has only but slightly begun to be revealed & put on film.

The Mystique character clearly shows how a person can become an absolute fanatic. If you listen to her long enough you'll start to agree with her despite KNOWING she's actually doing terrible things. By far my favorite character in the X-men universe.

Mystique is Nightcrawlers mother, who was impregnated by Azezl who was trying to escape the Brimstone deminsion, the deminsion that Nightcrawler teleports threw.
